Lake Tahoe: A perfect but busy place for cycling, vacationing and triathlon Ironman training
Team Bacon is back to Lake Tahoe once again for training. We will swim in the Lake, bike and run along the lake. Lake Tahoe is a 4-hour drive from the SF Bay Area, it’s a beautiful place to bike and swim in the freshest cool water.
Today we start biking from Kings Beach, (pic) going around Lake Tahoe clockwise of 72 miles with a total elevation of 4,300 ft.
After having breakfast and a slow start of getting the bikes ready, we finally started rolling out at 7AM, it’s mid August, and the morning is not cold at all, the air feels refreshing and the smell of the clean air is simply satisfying. I just love the smell and the sensation of the clean & fresh air.

The original plan was a very aggressive one, to ride 190 km from Shizhuo all the way to Pingtung City with a total elevation gain of 5,000 ft. Thanks for the comment. We are not a cycling club or an organization but just a bunch of friends having fun cycling. However in the next two months, most of us are in Ironman training so no leisure or coffee group rides for a while. 😢

I rode this ride just last Saturday. Absolutely beautiful. I made many mini stops to take pictures and hydrate, but eventually made it to the top. It’s a must-do if you are a cyclist living in the Bay Area. I’ll do it once more before the year end.
That’s awesome. Glad that you made it to the top on the first attempt. Keep eating and drinking electrolytes liquid regularly. Next time you will get stronger and may just take two short breaks :).

I was at my wits end after spending hours shaking the rim about like a madman. I used this technique, only I used grease. Hey presto, a little careful fiddling and the elusive little spoke nipple slithered out. What a relief. Thanks for the great tip!

People riding in face masks... one of the most disturbing things i've ever seen.
I cycle with a neck wrap that I pull up as a mask. It keeps my mouth from drying out during heavy breathing. Plus it helps with car fumes. I’m originally from the Midwest and there it will keep the bugs out.

I got into road cycling earlier this year and am currently training for my first century later this year. Another goal of mine is to start doing double centuries as well. So glad I came across this video but what really earned my subscription is the outro of your video 😂 pure gold man. Hope to see you out and about in Sac.
Thanks. I’m glad you found this helpful. I made this video for entertainment purposes and tried to make it funny in someway. In the past , I alway had leg cramps doing over 50 miles and now I can ride 200 miles without issues. The key is never ride too hard and ride at 60-65% of your maximum power. Get a power meter if you don’t have one. Drink about a bottle of electrolytes (22 oz), depending on the weather of course, every hour, eat 200-300 calories of foods per hour and take one salt pill every 20 miles. That’s how I do it now. When you’re riding along with others stronger than you , and for sure you feel the urge to over take them, but don’t do that. It’s got a long way to go. Relax and take it easy and you will survive ! Good luck and enjoy the ride !

Both hurt! 😅 The suffering on Sierra is longer. Quimby is shorter but steeper. Pick your pill, the Red or the Blue pill ?😅

I just finished watching the full series. What an adventure! When you are back in California I’d love to plan the next adventure for your group. Maybe cycling the Lost Coast down to San Francisco. Or for a smaller adventure come stay with Comova for a weekend of riding in Sonoma’s West County. Either way, I look forward to watching videos of your future adventures.

Ang ganda nang route na iyan sa San Jose. Dito lang kami sa OCRT to Huntington Beach or Newport Beach, SGRT to Bolsa Chica Beach. Am on road Recumbents since 1996. Now as a senior citizen still on bents without pain and prescriptions drugs.

I was looking forward for this day-4 video! Hopefully some day I can the same thing in my home "town" Taiwan. By the way, I joined two running events back in year 2016 and 2017 for 12k and half marathon around this reservoir.
Your hometown is near the reservoir , that’s a very beautiful place. The mountains and the cycling route there is so beautiful. It’s a good training place for cycling as well.

What's with the big masks?!
Well. Some people‘s skin type can get tanned and dark very quickly and they don’t like to have too much tan especially they’re riding 8 hours under the sun every weekend. On other hand, some skin type never gets tanned no matter how sun they get , they just get sun burnt.
@@imdragonslayer Most of us use sunscreen. I've ridden bikes for forty years and have never seen riders wear full masks, although I mostly mountain bike these days. Seems like it would be really uncomfortable!

We don’t have any regular places that we ride on a regular basis. Some of the places are Mtn Hamilton , Canada Rd, Mt Diablo, Tunitas Creek, Page Mill Rd, Kings Mtn Rd, Mtn Umunhum, Santa Teresa Blvd

we ride on most Sundays. Tomorrow we will ride from Woodside townhall to end of Canada Rd at 7:00am. And do repeats. It will be a training ride rather than a social ride.
I grew up riding these roads in the late seventies. The roads don’t change much- Niles Canyon, Mt. Hamilton, Sunol,…. Ride on!
