Frankie this is a compliment. Your style and way always put me in mind of a rat on acid you skated like a rat on acid. I have watched all the old guys heck I'm 45 myself but watching you wide open, hair laid back, wide eyed with a wicked grin on your face just gnarly man. You looked like you were full of 12 million volts of power.
My parents would like to thank you for my broken arm and wrists! We tried so hard to be you back in the 90's! 😅
Wild
I rent that vhs tape first time in Blockbuster video..yoo Frank u did All clips for one day ??
Hey Frankie, these are fun, but I would be way more interested in how you thought about skating at this time. Things were changing so much and I would love to hear how you felt about the direction skateboarding was going and how you felt you fit in. Obviously in your part, it was a lot more tech. A lot less stairs and hand rails. Was that because you were tired of doing that big stuff? Were the tech tricks more fun? How did you feel about where you were in your career at this time? Did you feel the sport was progressing at a crazy pace? Did all of the new companies, new skaters, new skate videos excite you or worry you about the future? What about the change in board shapes? Did that change the way you skated? Were you hesitant to change or were you all about it? I'd love to hear more of that commentary while reviewing one of your parts.
Had the dude's board, broke it trying to be just like him. When this part came out I knew I'd have to be content being a spectator. This work is still inhuman in my eyes.
Legendary and groundbreaking like all of Frankie's classic Powell filmed parts! Thank you Frankie for putting it on the line, taking it to the next level, and rockin' the skate world!
Frankie me pones nostálgico hermano, fuiste mi primera tabla en 1991 y tú colega Steve Caballero los.mejores .Skate or die
Amazing insights on a legendary part, would love to see a Public Domain breakdown as well as Ban This and a lot of what went on inbetween the 2 parts from the SB rubber boys to getting the opener! Big shout out to Jake Bradley and Brandon Chapman Love from the UK 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Sick Frankie.
Nice bro! Looking good 👊🏾
Go Frankie!!!!!
Yea Franky Hill❤❤
Impressive! They can't slap your graphic on a flight deck for promotional purposes?
Yeah Frank! Good to see there’s still some oil in those knees!!
Perfect airwalk! 🔥 can you do anti walks? That is only way I was ever able to do them, I feel like it’s cheating it’s easier than kicking judo with front foot. Looks better also lol
Super chill frankie hill!
Looking good Frankie🌎🔨
Hell yea man!
Still has that super pop
And I had fun watching. Damn you get up there
Lucas need to restore this in 5K HD!
Saw this the other day and wanted to really watch it when I had more time Maybe my favorite part growing up, break through stuff and it blew our minds!
As a skater myself from 1979 till 1991 I'm so proud to be a part of that history. All those guys changed the game. When I first heard of a hand rail being riden by Natas Kaupus to the amazinly big shit Hill did in both Ban This and Propaganda. Thats what made us all strive for better. Thanks guys. My life would have been so boring without you all.
Skateboard video part that made you want to turn off the tv straight away and just go skate? This was the one.
Such an classic opening line to a video..the kick flip Indy over the fence is gnarly AF!!..it's crazy to know it was all filmed in two days👊.
Dressed like shaggy the whole time 🤣
Dude you ways had the best mutes
Dang 2 days for this part?😮 crazy what you can do when your young huh?
Haven't skated in 20 years, but this gets me amped .
The first part I watched when I was young. It's still awesome. Good job Mister Hill !
I wanted the full size lance bc of this part. Absolutely bonkers part, esp for back inthe day!
You wanted the full size lance??
@@shannonandsheila1403 100%, such a sick deck
Amazing part, we used to watch the Powel videos over and over. I still have a box with my skate videos from back in the day. I'm 51 now, always loved this sport. It's a pitty that I damaged my knee at age 23 orherwise I would have been skating till today. I can still do pump tracks with a Don Joy knee brace. I believe the same happened to Frank. The party was over sinds that day. A real bummer.
i always liked seeing fellow regular-footed skaters
i like the edit in the middle of the long rail slide, it's funny
I remember back in the day in 1990, when Ban This came out me and my skate buddies from Milan, Italy, we used to get so stoked on your video part we would watch it to get hyped before every skate session... Your part was everyone's favourite in the whole Ban This video. It's still awesome 35 years later. Thank you Frankie.
Everytime I saw Ban this I started watching the first 5 minutes then I stopped the VHS and went skating. This is that good that session was.
Good work, keep pushin ! I'm looking forward for your tricks!
Question- how come nobody else skated that spot ?
That last trick, that monster gap, not only did you Ollie it, you mute grabbed it !! Yes, that scene, stunt, whatever you want to call it, risk of your your life - put Frankie Hill on the map !! I / we , in a tight and packed crowd , in a small skate / bike shop in Wilmington DE ( Henry's Bicycles) , witnessed an unknown Frankie Hill do the unthinkable !! Thanks for the memories !!
Most people nowadays think you need a nose to skate. None of the boards in this part had a nose.
it is a huge advantage, i'm kinda partial to the '90-'91 shapes personally
The nose or double tail came with people starting to do switch stance as it was called back then. The 90-91 boards already had the long tail like nose, but still were near 10" wide. Like my Bucky Lasek. In 92 boards became super narrow like 7" and wheels crazy small.
@@jeffv.akaonsjeffke9865 yeah, i probably started skating more 'seriously' around '94-'95. 7.5-7.65" boards, 44mm wheels. even back then, at 12-13 i would've already been 6'+. it didn't take too long to get up to 8-8.25" with 56-60mm wheels. probably still could/should've gone bigger, i like my shapes around 9.25". i had a buddy that skated 8.5" black labels back then and they just looked ridiculously huge, but turns out he was on to something.
@@jeffv.akaonsjeffke9865 i think '92 were still the 9-9.25" kinda football/eggs, but it was a quick transition to the smaller ones. certainly by '93-'94
@@jeffv.akaonsjeffke9865 and bucky was a vert dude, they were holdouts on the older/bigger shapes for a bit longer
Didn't Mike V leave Powell before Ban this was even released? And wasn't that video released early 1990? I remember seeing Frankie at the Van's factory 89 mini ramp CSAL contest. Alan Peterson and Omar Hassan were there too.
smokey the bear..... "wild BBQ man". Rayyyyy Simmonds
'varial crail' so sick!! I appreciate the run down
Amazing part. I must have watched a thousand times. I also got that Lance Mountain board for Christmas that year and of course the music.
I always thought that board slide that cuts to between the legs was funny. Never understood why they cut scene on that crazy handrail
The first two skate videos I got as a kid were Powell Peralta Ban This and H-Street Hokus Pokus. I watched Ban This first and I remember getting so hyped for the rest of the video after your opening part and it did not disappoint. I kind of feel like this is Powell Peralta's best all around video. You blasting over things, Tony Hawk in slow mo, Cab doing long boardslides along with his part skating the vert ramp with Mike McGill, the middle sequence with Lance and Neil skating in the house and other silly spots, the scooter race, greater gutter open, getting busted for skating while while the cop ignores all the bad things going on around them, and of course Guy Mariano. Everything in this video is enjoyable and the little skits or segues to the next parts of the video were funny. The section with Guy Mariano showed me that a kid can skate just as good as the older guys (or event better) so it motivated me a lot even though he was a bit older than he looked lol. The flat land ollie one foot you did in this video is how I learned them. I watched it back a bunch of times to see what your foot was doing to kick the board down while kicking the foot forward.
Loving these videos. Huge inspiration growing up watching your parts.
Anyone skate the 35 rail since
Frankie should start his next part with that rail.
Frankie is being modest but for people who don't know, this part shook the earth when it came out.
So my older brother was my idol growing up. We both skated everyday. The fight we always had was he wad a Barbee guy, I was a Frankie guy. Obviously it's a 1A and 1B situation but we ALWAYS wld fight when we watched this video, and public domain 🤘😀🤘
it was way ahead of everyone's skating!
One of the most influential parts of its generation. The kickflip over the fence was crazy for the time and the last rail set the stage for modern skateboarding.
