So You Want to Play 1862: Railway Mania in the Eastern Counties
Are you sure you can’t upgrade a tile with a coal marker on it?
Thanks for the great instruction. At 9:10, I thought there could only be a maximum of 5 shares ("50% of any company" per the rules) in the bank pool at one time. That would limit the total number to 5 in that holding box. That would also mean maybe 3 of one company and 2 of another.... However, I've seen others use the pool for multiple companies with each company allowed to have up to 5 shares (50%), So rather than have 5 certs there you could theoretically have 8 companies x 5 shares = 40 certs in the pool.
Great game. Lots going on in this one. Thank you for doing the playthrough video.
Hi, is there any written recap of this game? Or any part of the vid where you share you take on it? I was interested in 1849 game but after seeing couple of gameplays I decided to pick up 18MEX instead. Here however I see that you actually use, rather dead option in 1849, narrow lines.
Your rules videos are fantastic! Kudos on the great job!
I just bought this. The All-Aboard Games edition looks smashing!
I've only watched the intro so far (roughly under 16 minutes). I loved the dynamic of one of you asking for clarifications, and the others answering. Great, quick, way to go over the rules.
My kid’s school taught him “…and you don’t get upset.”
Rewatching this because I finally got a copy of my own coming (Thursday). Laughed a little at 1:34:50 - Shazzner - "Also we're almost done." Only two hours forty to go!
1822pnw please
can any player buy a private that has been reduced by another player in the auction of private companies????
Where did you get it? Who makes it??
All-Aboard Games
How high do you rate 22CA?
I like it quite a lot. I like the different halves of the map, and I like Canada. We’re fans of the 22 games and I rate this one pretty high.
Have you guys played 18OE?
We have. A couple times. It’s unfortunately too long to really play on stream though we did try playing it on TTS because of the player aids.
Great to see more vids! Reviews and thoughts on 18xx would be sweet as well. Take care guys!
I am glad that guy is not shuffling my cards.
It took a couple of us but we managed to make it work
Have you ever played 1825 with all boards and extensions?
I’ve never played 1825 though some friends have. They said it was wild
DIA is dead in action,
Could have used the yellow calculator for the bank. 😁
Great play through. I'm really enjoying this one as well. I was surprised how few of the level IV trains were purchased.
We didn’t withhold enough. We could have gotten more if we had played more with the withholding and quad jumps
When you get a random draw there is a possibility of getting a really good draw, a mediocre draw or a bad draw. If you auction off the stuff, that would probably help with the randomness, though it would reduce the amount of money you have to spend in the first stock round. Having said all of that, this still looks like a fun time. Thanks for showing it off.
I think we’re going to do the auction variant next time for the pool. That’s how it works for 18Africa which we’re a fan of as well
Starts with a cackle, I like it already! 😂
Awesome Video 🎉🎉🎉
Great stuff!
Can it be played without 1817?
UHF references! Yes!
Great steam! It would be amazing if we could also see the shares/portfolio of all players
I can zoom the camera out or I can add another camera for one person’s portfolio but I don’t have enough cameras for everyone. I’ll see what I can figure out
Glad to see you guys back. I started watching this live and zonked out. Finished on the yub tub. I should have commented live but zonked out. Take care guys. Never had a chance to play this. It looks interesting.
Thank you for video. Is this game good for start 18xx? What game better to try 18xx series? What you think about 18 India, that now on preorder?
Every game is a great game to stay with. Whatever you can get is a good one to start with. If you can get 18Chesapeake that’s a pretty easy one. We haven’t played 18India yet but we’re excited to try it when it shows up
Is it me, or the camera facing Shazzner and Layton seems to be reversed? Shazzner is on the left and Layton is on the right. However, the camera showing the table/board, Layton is on the left and Shazzner is on the right.
I love 24. I wonder how much I would enjoy this one.
Wish i was there. But, got overruled by a trip to Maui. Watchin from the beach instead. Oh well.... I so would like to play 18korea.
Maui is pretty nice...
@@BankruptcyClub That was a fun game you played. Do you think this is still in print? Or, is there talk of a kickstarter for it? Have you played 2 player yet? Do you think it would do well at 2 player?
@@trevorshort20 I asked Shazzner since he bought a copy but he got it from Korea and had to wire money for it so I’ll have him jump on and explain it
It's not as complicated as I thought, but doing things right at the right time is the hard part
Do you mind linking the poker chips you're using?
Shared can only be redeemed if after redeeming at least 60% shares are in players hands or in the market. The redeeming in SR2 & 3 are not according to the rules
> 28:40 [in 18xx you always start companies. In RS there are reasons not to, but I can't work them out.] If you only own 50% of the major you get half the revenue compared to player-owned privates. The privates is where most of the cash increase comes from, so that's a big deal. There are two ways majors can help you make money: (a) they let you realize synergy bonuses; and (b) they can print money by issuing shares. There are three ways you can get money out of majors: selling privates, paying dividends and funneling the money to another major which does some of the first two [Oh and in Stars but not vanilla RS, some majors have powers which make your more money]. Note that issuing shares has anti-synergy with paying dividends. So either don't issue and run a good non-diluted company, or issue shares and loot the company [which is tricky], or just sit on your privates. Here's a heuristic: start majors if and only if their capabilities let you earn more money. Shares are not very liquid and liquidity is king, since that's how you increase your earnings. Does the star system overvalue major-owned privates relative to player-owned ones? That is, do they contribute more stars than their face value would contribute in cash? If so, that nudges you in the direction of cheaply inflating your stock price, issuing shares and looting the money by overpaying for player-owned privates. But you can only overpay by so much. Does the 3p deck have four companies of each color? That's the case in vanilla RS, which cuts down on synergy opportunities and pushes more in the direction of player-owned privates. Combined with aggressive rusting of reds and oranges pushes a lot in the direction of grabbing the high-ROI privates and mostly sitting on them. I'm toying with the idea of having three players play through a 4p deck, just to have more synergies (and slower rusting of red through yellow). > [near the end: I don't understand why I lost] My first-order heuristic is "how many of the highest-ROI companies did I control [say, for >50% of its lifetime]?" Aim everything else at having the liquidity (and value) to buy more high-ROI companies than everyone else. ... I can't exactly call myself an RS expert, and I'm 0 plays into RSS so I'm a total noob. Add salt to my ideas according to taste.
What are the rules for auto-foucus? There are no rules for auto-foucus.. ~ laughs ~
audio is shit
If Rolling Stock (v1) and Rolling Stock: Stars (v2) are the same in this regard, you misplayed the foreign investor: it is only allowed to buy horizontal companies, not vertical ones-that is, it cannot buy a company that was pulled from the deck this round. (Players also cannot buy these companies.)
Basically 18USA on a smaller map?
It’s got a lot of 17 flavor. Not quite as vicious (usually) with the loans. The privates are nice bonuses. I think the designer described it at 17/22/62 all mixed up.
All the past live streams got deleted?
They did? I’m going to check that out
Sandwich cam was the best part!
Why dont other 18xx use this style of market?
My opinion is that the hex market doesn’t add too much to the game other than having to check two extra conditions for stock movement. But if you like that kind of nuance it’s probably pretty good
The K tile is not allowed in Orlando.
This game can be a little rough to learn, but it is truly one of the greats.
I don't know how you used so many loans. Our first game, no company asked for a loan, none were close to the receivership and it ended because one reached 450. I imagine you played it like this to show how it works
We’ve had games where loans are taken like wild and some where no one takes loans. It’s often counter to someone investing or not investing in the Bank. If no one invests then we often end up taking a lot of loans, whereas if they do invest we don’t take many loans. Also, sometimes we take loans just because.
More importantly, we aren’t really good. And especially on a new game or after a win someone will “pull all the levers” just to see what everything does.
Really fun to watch you guys playin !
Thanks!
How would you rate this one then?
It’s okay. There’s a lot of stuff to do and it’s not readily apparent the value of a giving move until much later.
Well, after watching the BC play through this a couple of times, I am intrigued. If it becomes available in a reasonable manner, I might try to get a copy. Hopefully, by then, all the rules questions will be dealt with. I suspect that someone has not thoroughly worked out all the combinations of special powers and edge cases.
No not yet. Shazzner has some black magic way of contacting the designer so I’ve been asking him to asking them questions but that’s really slow.
This is thing is wild. It might be fun to try out, if it becomes available.
