I am 60, and 2 years post very severe stroke. I am wondering if pandiculation is for me? I was a professional performing violinist, so muscle awareness was my life...
It still blows my mind as I learn how much stress and negative emotion affects our health. I am doing a limbic system rewire program right now because I developed dizziness and extreme muscle tension a couple months ago that is ongoing 24/7. Somatic exercises is next on my list of things to do for my health.

I really loved the mind, body connection AND the complimentary 'calm' audio. With gratitude There is//can be a richness of interoceptive awareness that emerges when one learns to practice body scans with Total Somatics. There are times when my feet talk to me in an embodied language - and so curiously noticing other sensations - the bones muscles, organs, tissues and the cells themselves.....can vibrate a ripple effect. of mind body connections It wasn't always this way.... That's wonderful news. Thank you for your comment.
You stated when a muscle is tight if you try to strengthen it it gets tighter. What about overstretched muscles? They say overstretched muscles in scoliosis are weak because they're overstretched on the convex side. So drs solution to this is pt. I have noticed sleep positions like lying on your side, placing a hand under the pillow to help support the head or reaching an arm around like hugging the pillow, there's this twist through the torso and now the torso may seem one direction and the pelvis another. Are those muscles tight, overstretched, or both? It feels as if the tissues and muscles are twisted around and have become frozen. ( Sorry a bit lengthy) How to address this situation? It feels as if you're all wound up.
Thank you for your message. Yes, when one side becomes heavily contracted, the opposite side is stretched. To strengthen the stretched side before releasing the heavily contracted side will create an incredibly rigid body because you've now tightened the opposite side. This will restrict movement further and amplify your pain. Clinical Somatic Movement focuses on releasing chronically tight muscles and reintroducing efficient muscle memory. Efficient muscle memory is when one side of your body contracts, the muscles on the opposite side release. Although your structure is influencing the tone and tension in your body, you can use Clinical Somatic movement to release a large portion of your tension. Once you've introduced muscle memory back in and continue to have a regular Clinical Somatic Movement practice, strengthening is good to introduce. However, we need to release the 'locked,' 'frozen,' 'rigid,' 'stiff' feeling in your body first before bringing strengthening in. Once your brain has recalibrated with your muscles, you'll find you have better internal and external awareness, which helps tremendously with your every day activities. I have detailed workshops on scoliosis within The Total Somatics Online Membership. If this is something you'd like to consider further, please leave your details on the WAIT LIST and next time the membershipdoors open, you are welcome to join: totalsomatics.com/join-now/ Many thanks 🙏
Thank you!
Thank you 🙏
What you described about the abdominal muscles shortening and pulling us over or pulling up the tailbone tucking it...PT says the core is weak--It needs strengthening. Is this true and somatics is first then strengthen? Or somatics is the overall approach to get us upright?
You need to release the muscular tension created from the subconscious brainstem reflex that causes the tail bone to tuck under and shortening of the '6 pack muscle' which also depresses the ribcage and creates a rounded shoulder appearance. If you don't release these subconscious brain reflex patterns, when you go to strengthen your abdominal muscles, you are further contracting the 6 pack muscles (and other muscles) which continue to amplify your pain and create rigidity. You have to reintroduce muscles memory back to these areas of your body, retrain your brain to muscle connection to know when to relax and contract muscles. Once you've created a Clinical Somatic Movement practice into your life, you'll find it improves power output for your muscles and complements strength training. Stretching will not achieve efficient muscle memory and also affects power output of your muscles. That's why Clinical Somatic Movement is excellent because it changes muscle behaviour and memory at the brain level.
Thanks for making this. However, the ads are annoying when you're trying to relax. Is there another video you can make without ads?
They are RUclips ads which I have no control over. To avoid the ads on all videos across YT, you can pay for RUclips premium.
It's strange because I listen to a lot of yoga nidra videos and none of them have ads. I wonder what stops them there? Anyway, loved the practice. Thank you.

Excellent advice Heidi. So true especially these days. 👍
Absolutely! Glad you enjoyed it.
I love this work because if I don’t reset my neural pathways my body will just keep on with its protective patterns .

Is it normal to feel pain days after? I haven’t done anything differently other than this exercise but stopped because my cycle started. It’s been almost a week. I wasn’t feeling this way before I started.
Thank you for your comment. What exercise did you do?
@@TotalSomatics I followed a workout from “The Workout Witch” which is called release stored trauma. It’s all basic hip and leg movements. So laying down and moving up and down with the heels. I was going at a faster pace than she because I didn’t feel anything but now I feel like I might have injured my muscles. Any insight/advice?
@EMacias I have a 33 minute clinical somatic movement session which you can access with the following link: TotalSomatics.com/Gift Follow my cues and keep the movements slow. With my movement session, you are working with your brain to muscle connection. So you'll be working smarter, not harder.
Thank you. Do you believe I went too quickly and hurt my muscles?
@EMacias possibly however, I don't know what you were doing, and I don't know if it was pandiculation, which is the gentle process I teach. I can't answer for what other instructors teach and how they approach chronic muscular tension. ❤️

Hi Heidi. First of all, thank you very much for all that you do. It has truly been god's gift to find you and all the information you have provided. My mom has been a part of your membership program. Her written English is not the best so I am writing for her to ask whether you are available to work one-on-one online? She is unsure of whether she is doing the exercises properly. She has the exact things you talked about in your book and videos, namely, hip pain for many years due to chronically tight muscles, one-sided imbalance, pelvic rotation, leg longer than the other, etc. from numerous years of improper physical work and lack of self-care.
Thank you for your lovely comments ❤️ Yes, I do one on one zoom sessions. If you can email me at support@totalsomatics.com, we can arrange something between us. 🙏

I consider myself a very healthy person. I don't have ails and stuff like that. But for most of my life I've had a tense body. Being a spiritual person and aware of the mind body spirit connection I know they relate to fears and boundaries I have with and about life (people places and things). I don't know anything about chronic fatigue or any other 'condition'.....but I've had the inspiration of maybe thinking of myself as having chronic fatigue because that has been my "experience" - of being chronically fatigued. What is happening is every second of every day I'm carrying dense energy and my body muscles are constantly tight. I used to be able to walk....now.....10 min walks exacerbate this fatigue .....so that I have to run (drive) back home and lie in bed for a bit just to get a semblance of balance. But like you described with sleep...it never feels fuly healing and restorative. How do I know if I have chronic fatigue? And what's the first thing I should do/implement in my life (other than diet....im open to changing diet...but right now it's my only emotional crutch in a hard time in my life) to addres it? Sorry for the long post, and thank you for the video. All the best :) <3
Thank you for your message. Your details are really helpful. At different times in life, we experience changes. At this point in your life, there are many subconscious actions that are occurring and influencing your health and wellbeing. We don't need to label them or put reasons to them because we are more subconscious than conscious. Our soma layers so much throughout our lives. I would like to suggest the following 3 resources, they will target your movement, nervous system, and subconscious. Please enjoy the resources and let me know how you get on: totalsomatics.com/gift totalsomatics.com/regulate totalsomatics.com/calm Please stay connected. Take care, Heidi Hadley ❤️
I fell and landed square on my tailbone and sits bones. It jarred my back so bad it created a spondilolathis. I ended up with back fusion of L4-L5. Almost 8 years later....still in so much pain. And now my left leg is 1 inch shorter! Which is causing all kinds of damage and more pain...can you help me?
