this might be a question outside of your scope but I was wondering if a legit professional photo shoot is necessary for submitting an application/adding images to your portfolio. for context im a broke college student lol and I have seen that good photo shoots can cost quite a bit of money (i dont really have photography expertise/experience so idk how viable it would be for me to submit basic photos of my myself that i took on my phone). fyi i am rlly interested in runway specifically (tho i am short; 5'9-5'10ish, male. idk if the height takes me out of the running). any answer would be super helpful, last thing i would want to do is to pay a fortune for photos.

No offense but you don't look like a casting director or like you know much about beauty/fashion/modeling unless you're casting for mayonaise ads. Your look fits office or admin work types of environments, not front-row fashion industry judging environment. And yes, I am a casting judge and know what I'm talking about. Those glasses of yours emphasize your owl-esque nose and lack of cheekbones. Your posture might give you a hatchback in the future if you dont fix it. Wanting to be a casting director doesn't always mean it is energetically suitable for your life path. Master directing yourself before you become a director of other people. A bit of tough love but it will help you in the long run.

Soo helpful! I also want to know how are models casted during fashion weeks since each of the four cities host them one after the other with no gap in between? I have seen models working in all the four cities. How does that work, like, how is a Paris-based model casted for Ralph Lauren in New York and the very next week she is also walking for Versace in Milan? Please help!

For 14 years we had a rental photo studio in NYC (I'm a photographer). A few of the other studios in the building would often hold castings. Those days were loved by my young, guy assistants since coming up in the elevator they'd be surrounded by all these cute young girls. Before becoming a photographer I did sometimes do production for advertising and catalog and it included casting. What always amazed me was how often a "first hold" meant nothing to the agencies. If a better paying job came up for the girls suddenly they would come down with a very convenient cold....
