    This was an amusing video. I am well aware of and have seen many examples like this over decades in the Philippines. The culture has a unique relationship with the 'dead' than our culture. Part of this is a held belief that the person's soul is in limbo yet to be determined if on to heaven. That is why there is a tradition of daily prayer for the soul for a consecutive period of days following the passing. Another, is a belief not to leave the person alone at such time. Hence, the gambling and drinking activity. btw, the Majong playing can also serve as a fundraiser for the family where a percentage from every table goes to the family known as a 'tong' - I believe is right term. There is another gathering after 40 days have passed. Further, the celebration that is All Souls Day annually where if you visit a cemetery, family and friends are literally having graveside picnics with their deceased loved one. Its different and maybe we are not supposed to understand it. 🙂 Sorry for the length of explanation, but I thought important on the topic.

    ***Question*** Not to offend anyone, but as nice as the Philippines is, there are other places considering your situation. Have you considered Panama? Costa Rica? Colombia? And on and on? Even the D.R. has potential if you like the Caribbean. I did Guatemala and El Salvador a while back and I'd say overall, it was a B... maybe a B+. I'd be too sad for you if you were sentenced to live out all of your days within the 50 states. Just sayin... Still a big world out there. Really glad you're sticking with RUclips. Possible content topics are endless!!!! And you have the gift of gab!!! Best to you.

    Paul, two questions, doesn’t the body really reek a horrible odor after a day or two, or are they embalming it first before they leave it there for 9 days? Also, were you given “hall passes” to walk outside the BI detention center once in a while when you were there, to walk around the neighborhood?

    • @PaulWorldZoom
      @PaulWorldZoom 3 дня назад

      After they realized I had no actual charges to be detained. I ran in a small block pattern every morning. 5-6 miles but never away from the center. The guards were cool. Good question on the body. I simply don’t know. I want to know too

    It’s “Tradition”, in the Philippines the line it’s tradition we must do it is often used by people who want to eat and drink for free provided by someone who they think has the resources to pay for it and they expect it and will bad mouth the person if they don’t provide free food and drinks.

    My wifes father just passed. 5% of the card and bingo winnings goes to the family to help defer funeral costs. Its also an opportunity for neighbor folks to convene and share memories. To me its a much happier way for friends and family to be with the decesed relative than any wake that i every went to in the USA.

    The purpose of setting gambling in funerals, is to raise money from the family to cover the high costs involved. People pay the family of the deceased for the gambling pleasue, so now it is clear why! A more funny thing is ,that in some places, professional gamblers, or private entrepreneurs, buy from the police a corpse of an unclaimed guy(mostly of a liquidated criminal) to display as a genuine wake in order to set a gambling space and earn good money. I knew a Chinese who requested the police to kill few gang members, because they robbed his sister. Then later he was told, that they(the police) made a good deal by selling the corpses to a medical school, that except the money they recieved as liquidation fee. There were cases when people for some reasons dug up the grave of a relative, just to find out the deceased looked the same(well preserved) as on it's death day, so they brought back to the house the coffin with the corpse to display the miracle of the eternal embalment(likely they were collecting donations for the show). If not for the alarmed health authorities, the body could remain in the house for an indefinite time.

    I just arrived in BBK 9/26 coming from the Philippines, got stamped for a 60 day visa but, I was questioned where was I was going, was I coming with anyone, did I have friends here, how long was I’m staying. It was odd. I did have a Thai non -0 but let it expire last year. The officer seamed confused as to what to do. She called in the senior officer, he basically asked the same questions then asked for an onward ticket ( which I had) but in the end got stamped through. I was sweating bullets for a minute there. I’m an old white guy, maybe they flagged me for some reason or another. I also got question for my first Visa extension in the Philippines, had to be assessed and write down why i wanted to stay a second month, got it stamped with a letter stating I was not black listed or detriment to the country. Either I’m getting paranoid or they are becoming more strict into giving visa on arrivals or extending no mater what country you are in.
