I"m not sure I understand why you say the Solstice/Sky was a failure? We worked 3 shifts to produce them. There iare only so many customers for a 2 seat sports car and the only reason production stopped is because Pontiac's doors were closed in the bankruptcy. Solstice/Sky outsold Miata by 15000 units while the two were in production (2006-2009) . The Club Sport was a stripped-down Solstice that was created strictly for racing and not street use. So I don't know of any ordinary customer that had to "pay" somebody to remove the transport spacers. The Solabra was a basic solstice that was modified by the company who bought them (not directly from GM )and not sanctioned or directly related to General Motors. Also, there were plenty of v-8 conversions that were sourced domestically for both Solstice and Sky. Why is the Daewoo thing so weird to you. Daewoo is part of the GM family, why shouldn't they share the car.
@@checkpointchickie1131 you say 'we', did you actually work for GM? I would like to know more if that's the case to know where I went wrong with my info.
PT Cruiser when???
@@alvimasud3565 soon 🙏🙏🙏😱😱😱😱😩😩😩😩😩🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Up till 1966 fluid was LHS2. Non power steering models had a single piston pump. LHM from 1967 was even more reliable and less maintenance.
Other advantages are safety... No loss of control in a front wheel blow out.. Saved De Gaul's life in assassination attempt - shot out 2 tyres and sped away. You don't feel a rear flat. Front & rear suspension squat under heavy braking with an antilock load proportion device to the rear... Makes a great towing car... In the UK - Xantia was tow car of the year. Incredibly stable and fast on bad roads. Also very difficult to roll..
With basic servicing it was very reliable... Including belting along in rallies...
@@stephenberry1205 yeah looking back that's something I kinda wish I mentioned which I didn't because the DS was actually a very good rally car in its day
@@ben_automotive My first car was a 1962 Aussie assembled ID19. I had a total of 7 x ID/DS, 3 x GS, 1 x CX Prestige, 1 x Xantia.. all hydropneumatic... Also had a 1978 RR SS II from new... It lost power steering fluid twice in 3 weeks (the second time after being checked) and a stuck rear suspension height corrector once - in the first year... The only suspension leaks in the Citroens were a leaking rear brake articulating joint in the 8 year old 1962 ID, and loss of fluid in the CX Prestige after a service and the pipe was not tightened properly...
I love it😂
Yeah, that's cool and all but I prefer the Nintendo DS
Were the sales really of the SOLSTICE aka Sky that bad🤔 or was it the other cars of the brands that tanked? Plus there’s quite a few opinions vs facts in this video. But I like the attention either way of the Kappa
Sales were good but not great and especially during the 2008 recession money was short and Pontiac couldn't really justify making a sports car (the G8 GT was killed off for this reason too but that had even worse sales).
Why didn't they make Cosworths of their whole program : E class Cosworth, S Class Cosworth, G Class Cosworth.....
That would've been cool
I watched like five seconds of this video and the way you talk about cars 😩😩. I want to have your children
I'm not sure how I feel about this
4:40 Only a true idiot can accidently shift into reverse. 😑 For a Mercedes manual shifter from this era, you need to pull the shifter up before shift into reverse. There's no way this would happen.
Yeah I kinda exaggerated that for comedic effect, I don't think its actually that easy to shift into reverse.
It's not a 190E Cosworth. That's just a lazy name plate.
You are right, its not called the 190E Cosworth but it is a 190e that was tuned by Cosworth and for the sake of the video title I just shortened it to that since it gets the point across
@@ben_automotive Understand. But there's a lot more to the 2.3/2.5, EVO & EVOII's than just the cylinder head. Technically, a 2.5 knocks spots off the equivalent E30 M3. Think suspension design , self levelling, and diff . Not to mention a smoother engine thanks to the very sturdy M102 block. Then there's the overall build quality, which was truly excellent. A hard driven 2.5-16 will do over 200,000 miles with one cylinder head overhaul and timing chain kit. Not a hope with the S14. And then there's the basic Aero, the 190 2.3/2.5 didn't need a totally revised bodywork like the E30 M3. That's why I like dislike the Cosworth name being used, it's not a fair reflection the the model in general.
@@johnmcdonnell81 hey man fair enough and thats a lot of really good info on the cars but my only reason for not including all of that in the video was so that the video wouldn't be double its length, because believe me editing all of this by myself was exhausting
@@ben_automotive understand.
The best is the Evo1 with powerpack.
There is no excuse for the stupidity of discontinuing the Solstice, a profitable car for GM if any GM car were profitable.
Yeah, GM management has made so many more dumb decisions like that throughout their history
Surprised you never mentioned the rarest of all the 190E, the 190E 3.2 AMG, not a Cosworth, but AMGs attempt, just before the change in Class.
In all of my research I didn't see a single thing about that one. But thats really cool, I will look into it
GOLF AND SOLSTICE BACK TO BACK!!! Perfect way to end an already perfect video!🤩🤩🤩
I love the beetle to bits! Two of my childhood movie star cars are Volkswagen Bugs: Herbie the Love Bug from the Disney films, and Bumblebee from the OG Transformers cartoon as well as his solo movie! But with that said, The VW Golf isn’t half bad either! It’s still a Volkswagen, and it still has a bit of personality! Not quite on the same level as the legendary Beetle, (and admittedly if a video game either didn’t have a Beetle, or I had to unlock the Beetle, and the Golf was more easily available, I’d use the Golf as a temporary placeholder for the Beetle!) but that being said, I feel I should give the golf a fair shot, and not just view it as a “diet beetle”. And now that I finished the video, I say the Golf really is… A hole in one!😉
Love this!!!
Such a great video… super informative. Best wishes 😎
My mom and I own a coupe version of the Solstice and while in the movie, Jazz was a Solstice, and Bumblebee was a Camaro, the Solstice we bought (right at the end of Pontiac’s life might I add) was Mean Yellow, and while I love Jazz from that first film, due to our Solstice’s bright yellow paint, there was only one other Autobot that would suit the Solstice…yes. We named our Solstice Bumblebee! And we still have him in our garage! We even put an Autobot symbol on the front! And honestly, with there being multiple continuities in the Transformers franchise/multiverse, (heck, there’s most likely two separate live action universes now!) I decided to just cast our Bumblebee in my own fan-made live action universe separate from the movies, complete with my own robot designs! Also, oddly enough, my very first Transformers ‘07 movie toy was Jazz! But a long time ago I had a happy meal toy of the Autobot HotShot from Transformers Armada, who was designed as a successor to Bumblebee! So when I saw Bee transforming in the trailers, I knew I wanted a Bumblebee toy! And after buying Jazz, he too became a favorite of mine! Now I own a bunch of Bumblebees and a couple Jazz figures too! So in a roundabout way, our yellow Pontiac solstice is literally the best of both worlds! 💛💛💛
Now that I think about it, I think that it’s about time the Solstice gets the recognition it deserves! I love this video, and I’m now determined to bring our Bumblebee Solstice to life as soon as I can, by making a creative Autobot v. Decepticon battle (on a budget) and set the video to “Mama said Knock you Out” from Bee’s comeback scene in Rise of the Beasts!
Thats a cool and creative workaround, I will say that the solstice especially in yellow suits bumblebee. Since prior to the bayverse stuff, he was the little guy who transformed into a small and usually kinda round car, so the solstice does work for him
@@drewo.127im glad you liked the video, and that would make for a good video itself. Also, no one can change my mind but bumblebee's comeback scene was the best in the movie
@@ben_automotive you read my mind dude! The Solstice, especially the coupe model, just SCREAMS Bumblebee! (Even the grill design has hexagons, like honeycombs!) and I don’t know if this was all coupe models, but our car has a removable hardtop, and I think that would be great as a shield in robot mode! (I actually recently made a new robot design for Bumblebee that I think suits our car really well without looking like a Jazz clone!
@@ben_automotive 1000% agree! That comeback scene was PERFECTION!
I love you 190E ❤😭
I wish to live in the United States of America
great video
A very enjoyble video!
I really enjoyed my 190E before. I'm Filipino and it really went well with some of our narrow streets here. Reconsidering of owning once again as my daily car bringing nostalgic memories and prestige as well ❤
Very nice
Channel is about to blow up.
Thanks for the kind words, I sure hope it does someday
Great video...fun to watch and a lots of info..
Cool vid, music is a bit load tho
Thanks, I kinda wish I made the music a bit quieter if that's what you mean
@@ben_automotive yeah that is what I meant mate, still a great vid though
You, and your channel seems very nice to me! I like your style. Keep it up! Also i really like the song - Like the wind - these lost media things keep me up at night.
Thanks! I'm glad you found and like the channel. Also glad you like the song, really is a shame no one knows who actually made it.
Holy shit I thought I knew a lot about my Solstice but I guess not😂. Great video!!! But now I'm pissed that I can't buy a Tauro body kit for my car.
Thanks man. I honestly have no idea how you would get your hands on a tauro kit without importing or making some sort of special order directly from the company, but then again I could be wrong.
Great retro! You forgot the limited run Mallet V8 solstice
Thanks! I had no idea that exists, solstice with a v8 is soooo cool!
@Ben Automotive oh yeah. Super nice!
Randomly got recommended this. Hilarious and surprisingly educational video! Subbed for more to come. I have an 06 solstice and love it, they’re loads of fun
Haha! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Do stay tuned, I hope to get another video out soon.
I ordered a 07 Solstice GXP in Oct of 06 when the GXP was announced. I took delivery in April of 07. It has always been a summer toy and an absolute JOY to drive. I have 17k miles on it. My oldest son adores the car. I keep telling him that he can have it when he either graduates college or completes a 4 year enlistment in the military. There is no way I am giving my GXP to an 18 year old kid. Besides, by the time he is old enough to graduate, I'll be 60 years old. It's already hard enough to get in and out of the car in my late 40's. (on a side note, my younger son is more interested in my 77 Pacer and he can have that when he gets older)
It seems like you really love that car and probably take good care of it. If your son ever gets that car, hes gonna be one happy guy. Keep enjoying that thing while you can!
It was sad to hear you just gloss over the Saturn sky, and call it a rebadged solstice. The Saturn sky’s body type was the most common, I believe, for a reason. The design was 10 times better, and the interior also had a much more modern streamlined look. It may sit on the same Kappa platform, but I find the Saturn sky it to be vastly superior in terms of design.
To each their own! I mainly wanted to focus on the Solstice and in retrospect I probably should have given the sky more room to breathe. I hope I did not give the impression that I don't like the sky, I think it looks great but I'm more into the Pontiac. Thanks for the comment, I like to see some constructive criticism
@@ben_automotive Nah, your cool, your right! We all like different things. I have a super special attachment to the Sky, so it hurt my heart a little to see haha. I have a Sky, but I will say the Solstice Coupe is sick for sure!
I have an 8x11 of this body style as a concept car called the Sunfire between body style changes in the 90s. I was so happy to see it brought to life in the 2000s as the Solstice.
.I have two A 08 gxp And a 09 gxp I will never sell them There fantastic cars With classic styling that will never look dated
You have your self some great cars there and I hope you enjoy them for years to come
Thanks for this awesome video I really appreciate it and I’m so lucky and happy to own a base solstice coupe in the UK 🇬🇧 and is the first coupe in the country!
No, thank you for the comment. And having a solstice in the UK is just really cool. I hope you enjoy it because it is such a nice little car
Have one and love it, crazy how many dont know what it is. I get people all the time asking me what is it? (I have it debadged) but alot of dont know about a brand that went out when they were a kid. I was in h.s. when it did so it holds that special place in my heart. AWESOME VIDEO!
Thank you so much, and yes the car never truly got the attention it deserves and I chose to do a video on it for this reason. It's a great car and I hope you keep enjoying yours
so sad. now GM is partnering with chinese automobile...
