My sister is 1,5 years older than me. We shared everything on vacation,l friends, activities. She wants to do things private, but due to our age being so close to each other, that wasn't much possible. My parents tried to explain, but we would naturally be in the same circle of friends or kids activity. My mom did reward her, so her feelings mattered. For me this was very confusing, because it felts she was being rewarded for me being around her, like good job for not getting writ of me. So my mom also got me a small gift. Not for listening to her, because my sister was not mature enaugh. She loved when I got scolded, bullied or whatever. My sister did not take care of me, nor she had to (because our age was really close). I am actually glad the mom said that for the boys it is confusing, it's like they are a pain in the ass. Give a big gift to the sister and reward to boys for playing so nice with a much smaller gift and explain the difference ❤

As someone who grew up with parents who had the participation principle it absolutely sucks. I did a lot but everytime i was rewarded my brother got the same thing because he through a tantrum. Or id have to let him use it whenever he wanted which was all the time. If i got something that had an age limit for me my brother got it the same day to 'keep the peace' so if i had to wait until i was 16 for something he got it at 13. Its not a good life lesson for your kids that everything is equal and fair with rewards. It creates entitlement and the feeling of superiority.

I'm the older daughter who takes care of my younger brother. And honestly my relationship with him is so amazing that most times I do it for myself. However, there are times when I feel unappreciated, so buy the special gift for your daughter and make sure she knows you appreciate her. It will not only make her feel great but teach you other kids the value of her behavior.

Is the in-laws think they should be given to family so badly they are the ones that you should take care of it the family if you're not going to do it yourself no matter what the reason is if you're not going to do it then don't demand the other if you're not going to do it don't volunteer or voluntrlk others you keep your mouth closed and shut it what OP needs to tell the inlaws
