Добавлен 24 дек 2013
Mr. Hall’s Trail Guide is a concise reference to hiking trails in California and beyond. The videos provide information on locating trailheads, what to expect as you walk the paths, how to navigate junctions without going astray, and showing side trips you can make along the way. No fluff, no clutter, fun to watch. Simply what you need to know to enjoy the many beautiful and unique trails the world has to offer.
(ASMR) Oil City to Third Beach, Olympic National Park
A moderate, sometimes strenuous, three- or four-day, 20-mile backpack along one of the last remaining untouched coastlines in the U.S. This is a one-way hike, so you’ll need to arrange transportation by either doing a car shuttle (one car at each end of the route), or leave a car at the end and hire a shuttle to take you to the beginning. Note that bear cans are required for camping in this section.
Directions:
If you’re doing a car shuttle, first plug into your map app, “Third Beach Trailhead,” which will take you to a small parking lot off La Push Road. Leave one car there and then ask your map app for directions to “Oil City,” which takes you to the end of Oil City Road and the trailhea...

A seven-mile, moderate to strenuous hike in the Santa Monica Mountains above the Pacific Ocean north of Malibu. Hawai'i Hikes That Take Less Than Hour

Waterfalls, black sand beaches, volcanic craters! Five hikes, no more than five miles long, with little to no elevation gain, on the Big Island of Hawai’i. The terrain on three of them is mainly volcanic so I recommend wearing boots or, at least, sturdy shoes. And bring water. These might be relatively short, but can be hot and humid. You’ll appreciate having a liter with you. Napau Crater vide...

Hoh River Rain Forest

A wilderness permit is required to stay overnight. Directions: From Forks, head south on U.S. Highway 101 for about 13 miles. Turn left/east on...

A moderate to strenuous, 10 to 12-mile (round-trip) hike starting in Northern California’s Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and heading downhill to the ocean along the James Irvine Trail. Panamint City Backpack (ASMR)

A 13-mile (roundtrip) backpack to one of the best-preserved ghost towns in the country. There’s a reason for its great condition-the hike is a difficult one with some bushwhacking and an elevation gain of around 4,000 feet. Be sure to check the weather report before you go. If there’s a chance of thunderstorms in the Panamint Mountains, even miles away, it’s best not to go. Surprise Canyon is p...

Well done💪 Greetings from the tall German.
Ha! Glad you made it to the channel.
How can you have fun with half the REI catalog on your back?
In fact, it's half the camera store on my back! I suffer for my art. Thanks for watching!
Great content. This channel definitely deserves way more followers 👏
Thanks! I appreciate the sentiment.
26:16 Very Polite
Thanks. I would have felt guilty knowing others might not be able to find the trailhead.
This is so well done! I've always wondered what beautiful Catalina looks like beyond Avalon and the immediate area, thank you for showing us!
You're welcome. And thanks for watching.
Just did this hike this morning based on your recommendation...stunning sunrise and overall hike. Thanks! 😊
That's fantastic! I love it when I'm able to help people discover new trails. Glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for letting me know about your experience.
Another fun looking hike. I took a bad fall atop Mt. Baldy and now need hip replacement surgery, but this hike will be on my recovery hikes list. Keep em coming. Take care.
Oh, no! So sorry to hear that! I have a feeling you'll be doing that recovery hike real soon. Hang in there. Let me know when you're back on the trails.
nicely made :)
Thanks!
Well, I never knew... Really beautiful!
Thanks. It's a pretty incredible hike.
I have no idea why this channel hasn't absolutely blown up amongst the hiking videos on RUclips; the production value of the episodes are great, as is the information, footage, and the personality behind it all. I always click whenever I see a new episode posted. Keep up the great work Mr. Hall!
Thanks so much for the support. At the risk of sounding paranoid, I wonder if the RUclips algorithm has it out for me. (Probably not; these things just take time.)
If you enjoyed this silent hike you might enjoy the silent hiker Herman Hoek.
@@robertspies4695 I've seen him. Took some inspiration from his videos. Thanks.
@@mr.hallstrailguide589 I knew it when tapped the trail guide.
Thanks for sharing this and the honesty of the experience. Morocco is a stone's throw away for me now and it's inevitable that I'll visit sometime next year. So, I'm happy to learn about the adventures to be had in the region. Being forced to join a guided group is an unfortunate requirement. It had to have made your task of documenting the hike far more stressful and difficult. Nice job pulling it off regardless.
Thanks for your kind comments. If I had done this climb solo or with a friend, I wouldn't have made it a priority to get to the summit by sunrise. And, as you say, I would have been able to shoot the kind of video I wanted to get. That said, traveling always requires being flexible. And, in the end, I was still able to tell my story (and reach the summit), so I can't complain. Also, don't hesitate to visit Morocco. It's a beautiful place.
When, why, how did all that stuff get up to that remote area???
They originally filled in the canyon with dirt to build a road. But the creek kept flooding and destroying the road. And then the feds came in and said they couldn't keep wrecking the environment. And so now the only way in is by foot.
Our "Old Age" ain't OUR parents old age. We are the new 40.
Damn right!
Hello mr hall ! First of I want to say how much I love your videos, I have recently developed a huge huge interest in travelling after traveling south east Asia this summer, I want to ask if you have any tips so I can get started as I dream of traveling everywhere and documenting my trips ! Thanks
That's a doozy of a question. If you're looking for advice regarding shooting video along the lines of what I do, my top advice is to research all the places you plan to visit and then write a script with some voice over, stand-ups and shots you think you need to tell a good story. Use that script as an outline while out and about, but always (always!) look for ways to improve upon it or for angles you didn't anticipate. Be flexible. Be very flexible. And then when you get home, rewrite the script according to the video you actually have in the can. In other words, don't just wing it. I see videos all that time that look like they were just slapped together with no thought to a story or what they wanted to say about the place they're showing. They turn out sloppy and ultimately, boring. I hope that helps.
احسنت ايها الرجل 👍👍💪
Age is just a number. There are people who are way younger but not courageous enough to climb a mountain. Your guide should’ve been a little more patient. Great filming and keep inspiring 😊
Thanks for the kind words. I'm going to keep at it until my boots fall apart under me.
You're a force of nature, Mr. Hall.
Ha! First time someone has said that. Thanks!
I hope to be doing this hike in a couple of weeks with some others. Thanks for the great camera work showing the need for me to bring an extra pair of shoes for the water crossings in the beginning. At one point did you switch out of the shoes and go to the boots? Is that after Brewery Springs?
Thank you for your video ! Ouch ! Those yuccas are brutal! We are thinking about doing this one soon!
You'll love it. And, yeah, watch for the yuccas! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the memories, Mr Hall. 20:57 Incidentally, there is a little book titled "La Spiaggia di Notte" by Elena Ferrante, "The Beach at Night". I had acquired it for its illustrations by Mara Cerri, but the lost-and-found story is just as nice, narrated by a blue-eyed doll.
Thanks. I was wondering if anyone would notice my reading material. I'll grab the e-book for a long flight I've got coming up to Morocco. Stay tuned for the hiking video from the Atlas Mountains!
@@mr.hallstrailguide589 For the purpose of avoiding misled recommendation, please note that the book I've mentioned is classified as "children's book" and it's only about 40 pages. -- Looking forward to your impressions of the highlands of Morocco. All safe, all well.
Great description of the hike. I am 71 and heading there for the 20th time in as many years but started going there in the 80's and once rode a motorcycle to the town. I love that you are an older hiker, I rarely see mature hikers in the extreme back country.
Good for you! That's a tough hike. I hike with a group of friends who are all in a certain age group and you're right, we rarely see any of our peers out there. Thanks for the note.
I will be headed up there with you for my first time but looking forward to it!
@@Zigbee_1138 Let me know how it goes. I'm also curious if the road to the trailhead is any better than when I did it. It was horrible!
@mr.hallstrailguide589 we will let you know, definitely bringing a 4x4.
I am so pleased i searched 'telegraph peak' and came across your channel. I hiked the trail in may this year and was curious to see videos about it, mainly just to relive it and see the summit, as i never made it all the way up! Living in the UK, hiking at high altitudes was new for me, id never been above 4500ft in my life. I attempted Whitney too, but i only made it to 10,600ft before having to turn back due to a headache!! Anyway...looking forward to viewing more of your hikes, subbed and liked, atb Rob 👍
It always makes my day to know my videos are informative and helpful. Hope you can adjust to the high altitudes around here and go for Whitney again. Let me know if you do!
@@mr.hallstrailguide589 I fell in love with Lake Tahoe while i was over there, so im sure ill be back very soon for more hiking. Only just noticed i'd put telegraph instead of telescope peak....im sure you knew what i meant 😂
@@Riverman2012 Indeed. I understood.
Make sure to tell your grand children that the current glacial melt off started 100 years before the industrial revolution. Glacier bay started melting out after the little ice age ended in 1750. Tell them that the current Hysteria is just a scam by democrat lawmakers to steal their labor.
Great re-cap of a wonderful trip!
Wow! Finally watching our last days on the trail. Congrats!!!
Thanks! Better one year later than never.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos, narration and humor! I camped overnight at Long Lake too earlier this month and summited Mt. Langley for my first time. I film my trips too so have an extra appreciation for what it takes. Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind note. I was tempted to climb Langley on this trip but went with the tour of the lakes instead. Next time. . . There's always next time.
Being from Southern California myself (Long Beach) when I was younger, always dreamed of driving up north exploring that area and maybe one day tackling the JMT. Such a beautiful place in the world. Currently sending this vid to family n friends to a plan trip up there
You will not regret exploring the area. It is stunning. Thanks for watching.
It was a fun trip.
We are doing the Camino and watch each of his segments before we start. Well done.
Thanks. And have a great trip. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Hope you have the same.
A hole new hike I’ve never of 👍🏼 👌🏼
Ha! I like a good pun.
Can’t stop watching your videos, what an amazing production u got going on from the narration, the perfectly framed shots, and natural sounds of the landscape. I got a lot to learn from watching your content lol
Thanks so much for your "review" of my work. This made my day!
Thanks for the great information. I'm from Oahu and have been wanting to do this hike for a long time, but didn't want to tread anywhere we'd be unwelcome. My gf is also from big island born and raised but has since changed her county of residence to Honolulu so thought we'd wait for the trail to re-open. Now we may be re-considering lol
Tread lightly. That's all. We passed people we assumed to be residents, and they were quite friendly. Enjoy. It's a beautiful place.
slow down when offroading!! haha nice
Nice running into you on the Cottonwood trail! Love your videos! Ryan
Thank you, Mr Hall. Up to a point in this video, I thought that forestry in North America must be a dream job, reasonably away from human-made nonsense. Then noticed that foresters would not work in solitude but in teams, just before you mentioned the "Happy Four". There's no escape, I suppose.
Yeah, how hard would it be to get along for a few days while you're building a shelter? It's a hilarious story.
How was the elevation gain on the way up?
It wasn't much until the last, short stretch that climbs out of the valley to the bridge. I wouldn't worry about it.
Absolutely beautiful. You're having a great summer on trail.
I was all over the Pacific Northwest this month. Stay tuned for more.
You don't mention that at the two picnic tables, if you ascend higher, it takes you to TeePee.
That was deliberate. I know the couple who own the property where the teepee is sometimes erected and I didn't want to encourage people to trespass. Also, that's one nasty climb.
@mr.hallstrailguide589 I never realized that TeePee itself is on private property, nor the climb to access it from the picnic tables. Yes, it's a workout alright.
I'm gonna do it in September. Thanks for the preview.
It's a beautiful hike. Enjoy.
I'm gonna go in September. It's too hot now.
I will admit the heat was bad but not as broiling as the mainland. Enjoy your trip.
I am dreaming of this hike. Thank you for showing your journey, Hope one day to visit the beginning on the San Joaquin River at Thousand Island Lake.
You will not regret doing the hike. Glad to have to have helped make it a reality.
$120 for bungee jumping? Is that a good deal?
Not a clue. I've never shopped around for a bungee jump. But trust me, it's a good hike even if you don't plunge off the bridge
I am hoping to do Langley in the next few weeks or so, via that trial!
By a strange coincidence, I'm also climbing Langley via New Army Pass in early September. Maybe I'll see you there.
@@mr.hallstrailguide589 I am thinking best asap, for longer days and avoiding low temps early and late part of day. I am really a cyclist, but have been hardening up my legs with up to 18 mile hikes. Tomorrow is another hike day in Huddart Park.
Next week I'll be going over Army Pass, heading for Soldier Lake and Miter Basin. I don't expect to feel sufficiently perky to take in Mt. Langley on the way, but I hope I can. I haven't been atop it for well over a decade.
Sounds like a fine trip. Langley is indeed a trudge but if you make it, you will surely enjoy the view.
@@karlkeating2803 I plan on camping at trailhead on the 20th and will day hike via old Army Pass on 21st of August. You are a Karl with a "K" too!? Maybe see you, otherwise, sounds like a great route!

Love the TCT. I've been down to Weston Beach but never to Mount Banning. Once again, you've shown me something I now need to go see. Wonderful group you have, love the paintings. Another great video. Thanks again for sharing. ❤
Wilson was a volleyball! Great video😊
I had a feeling I was wrong about that.
Ah yes, bristlecone pine!
I'm lucky the algorithm brought me here
Thanks! More to come.
I'm gonna do this hike next weekend, i'm super excited! I did the Mt. Wilson trail and the Bailey Canyon Trail in the past!
You won't regret it. It's a pleasant one, even in all this heat. And thanks for watching!
Fascinating trail. Thank you, Mr Hall. Recently, I've chanced upon an anecdote of a geologist, addressing the audience at a public meeting. _"I am frequently asked about when earthquakes will end. I implore you never to pray for earthquakes to end. Earthquakes are the beating pulse of the Earth. You would not wish the planet to die. It is the human behaviour that turns earthquakes into disasters."_ --We might as well add _eruptions_ beside earthquakes.
What a wonderful way to look at it. Thanks so much for sharing that quote! And, of course, thanks for watching.
