BBD Holiday Retrospective: Looking Back At 2024
What a year in the Berklee Bass Dept! As you will see in the video, so many great visiting artists, students, faculty, and administration.
Just a reminder on our “process”. During each residency, at the end, I usually bring the artist into my office to record for no more than 10-15 minutes, to a predefined tempo. They are not playing with any other track than the drum loop. I may call out keys or “concepts”, but they are free to play whatever they feel. We also try to capture video of these sessions. This goes on all year up until mid November, or sometimes as late as Dec 1st.
Then Vic and I will start assembling a song/track/soundtrack from these hours of recordings, looking for moments, ...

Charlie, Derico, Victor, Gerald, Steve, and Jack... thank you so MUCH, from the BBD.

Will there be a spring bass bash?
Thanks for this Steve! The community of bass playing and the love that goes into these sorts of projects truly make it a one of a kind joy! Have a great Christmas and New Year!
Amazing!!!!
Every year I look forward to this!
What a gem! Thank you for having uploaded this for all to see!
It is great to see the folks still there when I was in Berklee 20 years ago. Many thanks to you guys that I had great period of my life in there.
So.. theres' no Tuba, Bass saxophone, Bass trombone, in the Bass Department? haha kidding
Most excellent, from a proud Berklee grad
UNIQUE
👍👍👌
Bass Extremes Crew cameos! Sweet! We get royalties for that? ps: nice mix! :)
Love it! Thank you all so much for that happy video , great grooves and photos!
Good vibes
whats with 11:11?
11:11 when you see it, is considered highly spiritual, magical, good sign, etc....
very cool
What's the story with the ~'62ish Oly White J bass?
It is a 1960 stack knob. Everyone wanted to play it. It's a rare opportunity, like driving a Porsche 550 Spyder.
I love this!!!
Where's Bruce? I didn't see/hear Bruce!
Out with Gargergonz or another permutation of that group of guys?
@@michaelfoxbrass active in the Berklee Bass department
Second this!!
For some reason when that cassette flashed up at 2:12, I saw Steve's name, and I think I had Vic's name in my head or something, because my brain just smooshed their names together into Victor Bailey, a former Berklee faculty member who's no longer with us, and it just cracked my heart open. I'm putting his Low Blow album on and listening to it a couple times today. I'd like to think that Victor B. is looking down on this tune and smiling, Steve. Bravo.
Thanks for the holiday card!
Thanks for the fun tune. Wonderful to see the center of the bass universe remains a bright and shiny place.
👍 😊
Is Michael League playing Anthony Jacksons old Jazz Bass?? 😮
Indeed that's "Career Girl"
You All! The Bests!!! Thanks

😮太酷了
Fabulous!! I shared it on FB....Season's Greetings! Keep up the amazing work! <3
that was awesomely sick, looking forward to all 10! inspiring as always
BBD, the best!
15:47 - wow, just realised that was 1963, Art Farmer, Jim Hall and Walter Perkins were the band at the Half Note gig when Ron left the gig to go play w/ Miles, that means that that's when Steve Swallow joined as Carter's replacement and they ended up recording the Art Farmer Quartet W/ Jim Hall Live @ The Half Note album, a really great record. PS: This is an awesome gathering, might as well be the ultimate bass summit. Thanks for sharing.
Victor ended this so well - all so inspiring 👍😊
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL AND SO IS THIS COMMUNITY!! GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE BBD HAS DONE FOR THE WORLD AND FOR THE HIGH FREQUENCY ENERGY IN THE FORM OF LOVINGLY LOW VIBRATIONS! ENDLESS GRATITUDE FOR THIS TEAM OF NURTURING EDUCATORS, STUDENTS, STAFF, AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO MAKES THIS DEPARTMENT!
Well Done!!
