    could pilates help me achieve my real height? I´m 182cm in the morning and 179cm at night . It has always bother me that I shrink so much during the day

    • @pilatesguy
      @pilatesguy 27 дней назад

      Don't stress, this is completely normal. Average is around 1.5cm loss in height through mainly disc compressions throughout the day. 3cm is more than average, but if you lift weights or so physical work, it can be more. In theory being more posture aware and having stronger core muscles would reduce the compression and potentially make a small difference. Hope that helps! Not sure this has been studied though

      Do you mean like massage etc provided by a physiotherapist? I think it's always a good idea to be guided by a good professional. The kind that works with you, motivates and advises you, not just someone who puts their hands on you then off you go. I have a chiropractic every 12 weeks and a sports massage too which I find helps a bit. What you do yourself is the 90% of the result you get if that makes sense?

    Very useful thank you, I’m thinking very seriously about this. A question, just out of curiosity, it’s not so important, but from my observations it seems to be mainly women who do Pilates? Is this the case? If so, why is that?

    • @pilatesguy
      @pilatesguy 2 месяца назад

      The sooner you get started rhe better! You are right. It is predominantly women who practice. This is partly why I found it so difficult to begin myself. I think much has to do with society as a whole. This kind of holistic style of exercise is always attended more by ladies than men. Much of that is down to us guys. And women are more open to group exercise class settings too, across the board. But there are also some factors around the evolution of Pilates after Joseph Pilates began instructing dancers in the New York Ballet. And his protégé was dancer. This all happened before it became so popularised and widespread. Many people who do the various styles of Pilates have any idea of it's origins or that it was initially created by a man.

    I'm 68. I walk and use resistance-bands and body-weight exercises to keep fit. Just found your channel while looking for pilates and functional movement exercises to help me improve my mobility. I loved this workout. The only thing that would have made it better is if you could improve the audio. There's too much echo (probably caused by the hard surfaces). Maybe a mic'd headset would help. Anyway, the presentation, explanations and pace were all great. And I appreciate that there is no music. (I never enjoy added music.) I'm looking forward to exploring more of your workouts. Good luck with your channel! (Berkeley, California)

    Does pilates adress the fascia mainly rather then muscle?

    • @pilatesguy
      @pilatesguy 4 месяца назад

      Any movement works on the fascia, regular movement and lots of variety of movement, avoiding long periods in the same position. This is all good for fascia. It all depends on your starting point really. Pilates certainly addresses the whole body including your muscles. For some, they will get stronger, others will get stronger through a greater range of motion (mobility). Often people strong in the gym are weak in the core and are limited in mobility. They would hugely benefit (this was me). But you will not gain lots of muscle with Pilates. Does that help?

      @@pilatesguy Yeah thats good thanks and also you said not staying in same position is good for fasica, is this true and proven? Because that's interesting and sounds right and could be why active recovery is useful. Also what is your training(worktou) schedule, like how often do you do pilates and also what other training you do yourself just wondering. Also what do you consider the core? The combination of abs,lower back and hips? Just wondering thanks!

      Sorry for delay! 1, there's not much proven about the fascia at the moment. I think it's just become an area of further study as it is recently being taken more seriously. 2, I think active recovery is brilliant. You can get so much from it. 3, my schedule is strength training compound lifts 2 x per week. 25 min pilates and mobility before each session. 2 x per week approx 30mins functional HIIT, before one of these 25 mins pilates and mobility. 1 x 1hr pilates Session with an instructor There are a lot of varying definitions of the core. When I mention engaging core, I'm talking the deeper core unit such as TVA and pelvic floor. But the wider core of course incorporates all of what you've mentioned. I'd go as far as to say most of the muscles of the mid lower torso and hips. Hope that helps! But opinions will differ depending who you speak to!

    I have been doing HIT bodybuilding and lifting consistently for the past 2-3 years and I know that with the way I feel I know I need Pilates mixed in with my schedule. Do you have an email to contact?

      Thanks for watching! That's great activity. I find Pilates is now the oil that keeps things running, as well as the glue that holds me together. Sure, feel free to email: Russ@Pilatesguy.co.uk or WhatsApp +447480991068
