I was a member of the marching band on the field for that legendary performance of the banner; it was our first time hearing it too; it was so hard to not break attention to clap afterwards. Rest in love, uncle Willie.

This rendition reminds me on "Theme for English B'" by Langston Hughes. Like Hughes, who was addressing the belief that Black Americans are Americans, Willie is showing, through music, that Hawaiians are American's as well. They are not an exotic get away destination, they are America.

This reminds me of a concert review in the Ottawa Sun newspaper. I’m paraphrasing but it went something like this. Rush may not be the most popular band in the world but they probably have the biggest following of air drummers.

I dont get why everyone who expresses himself has to filmed and public exposed to the internet. Haha that woman dances funny, lets put her online. Haha that guy airdrums, lets upload and get some clicks. Haha, that guy drank so much at a party that he puked in the flower pot, let upload that so everyone can see. That way everyone starts even on concerts and festivals to only blend in and never express himself. One one side people fear total survilance by some governments, on the other side you get terrorised by everyone with a smartphone because they put everyting you do online. Fuck this.
