Thanks so much! Absolutely no time for how-tos this year (and, amazingly, video creation is NOT my forté). A parent was recently diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, and actually just went to the ER on Saturday with a slow brain bleed that has to be drained. I made the decision to do this year as a creative outlet for myself. Self-care is still important. I should have set better boundaries around my time and given myself a couple off-nights each week, though. MOTION SENSORS: Miss Kitty has no sensors. I’ll address her in AUDIO. I always use PIR sensors in place of the built in motion sensors. They allow me to control sensitivity and time delays, and are much more reliable. In the past I’ve used 5v PIR sensors, which are great when working with Arduinos and servo boards that are also 5v. I also use a lot of Picoboo MP3 prop controllers, which are 12v. This year, I discovered Sensky 12v PIR sensors with 2.1x5.5 barrel connectors which make life MUCH simpler when dealing with 12v! My adventures in syncing began a couple years ago as I wanted Leota’s bell to raise and ring in sync with her spell. The recommended way to do it (and how Disney originally did it) was to use one of the audio channels for a trigger tone. This meant reducing her stereo sound to mono in the left channel, and then using her right channel only to play a tone as a trigger. This trigger goes to a HiLetGo audio level indicator board with LEDs that light up to indicate audio volume. I soldered a wire to the proper pin for the middle LED, and ran the wire to the trigger input for the Picoboo MP3, so when the LED illuminates, it passes 12v to the Picoboo. When I saw the knight, I knew I wanted him to sing in sync with the pumpkins, but I really wanted to keep the stereo sound, except where do I find an extra audio channel? I use Sprite Media Players on each projector to playback the videos. Sprite has a new Sprite 4K that is able to pass Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. So I remastered the Grim Grinning Ghosts video file in DD 5.1 using Adobe Premiere Pro. The audio is still stereo, and I use the Left Surround channel as my trigger channel for the Knight. The audio passes via optical cable to a cheap and small digital to analog Dolby Digital converter from Amazon. (www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09ZKPCXT3?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title). From there, I pass the L & R channels to the pumpkins audio, and the SL channel to the Audio Level Indicator in the knight that is connected to his Picoboo MP3. The Knight’s original audio included music and vocals, and I wanted only vocals. I sourced the knight’s voice track online and used the Picoboo to sync it with his mouth movement. The Picoboo handles its audio playback when triggered. I went ahead and upgraded Leota’s setup to DD 5.1 and restored her stereo sound, also. SPOTLIGHTS: The main spotlights in the yard are Hue Lily’s. Not cheap, but the Hue ecosystem is well-made, reliable, and easy to use. This year, I also replaced several accent spotlights with nano spots from Frightprops, as well as Gantom Precision Z Spots and Floods, also from Frightprops. Previously, I had used solar lights, or less reliable lights. For my Leota setup, I have two generic pole lamps with 3 fixtures each. For both, the highest has an LED blacklight bulb, and the lower two have Hue bulbs. For the Leota wall poster and other accent lights, I’m using a rechargeable gooseneck book light. AUDIO: I upgraded all audio systems this year. Previously, I used JBL Charge speakers, which had to be recharged each night. The charging was getting more cumbersome as I added more sounds. This year, I’m using small Fosi amplifiers for the Pumpkins and Leota, along with Pyle mini outdoor speakers. They are set and forget for the duration of the display. For the caretaker’s dog, I was streaming over Bluetooth from my iPad to my JBL Charge, but the distance caused it to crackle. So I discovered the Anker Soundcore Mini (1st gen) which has a MicroSD card slot. I put the dog audio on a MicroSD card, and the Soundcore Mini just loops it. I had bought two, and decided to give Miss Kitty some audio just yesterday using the Soundcore Mini.

I'm getting started, so I'm hoping to leverage some of these details in the future. I didn't pull the trigger on the Picoboo controllers this season since I didn't have time to get them setup the way I wanted. Your setup is what I had been trying to get to before I even saw your first video. So well done and something for me to reach for. Thanks for sharing what you already have. I'm sorry to hear about your parent's health. My father-in-law is struggling with his issues, and it's been a strain for our family. It's extremely important to try and take care of your health by being distracted with personal enjoyment like this. Best wishes to you and your family with this situation. Hope you can find some inner peace while dealing with this.

@@fitness.hanna.579 My projector and media player are outside. I use a small JBL portable speaker to play the audio directly from the media player.

@@briancico7903 Yup! You’ll have to handle to looping with your projector or with a media player.

@@JailhouseRoxie Its servo-operated 3D printed animatronic eye mechanism. The entire Leota gravestone is made from scratch. The face plaque was also 3D printed, and the stone is made from insulation foam board.

I modified the Spirit Halloween animatronic called Bag O’ Bones for the main mechanism. I also incorporated a FrightProps PicoBoo MP3 to sync the mechanism to a PIR motion sensor, a speaker, and a blacklight LED strip on the back of the gravestone. The screams are the actual screams they used to use in the ride. They are available on RUclips, and I used a RUclips downloaded to extract the audio files.

It is the Lowe’s animatronic, but heavily modified. I cut the sound, added a head servo so the head turns, replaced the lantern, replaced the legs, and replaced the shovel. The pop-up head I made myself using Jasper’s video tutorials as a guide.

@@mapotter99 You should share those builds. I know I passed on the Lowe's prop due to the lack of movement. The arm movement alone was cheesy and felt unrealistic. Your version is what I would have expected.

Great mods to the caretaker!! Would you be able to do a video or post somewhere about how you went about modding it? I have one and would love to make changes to it. I have an idea for making the knees/legs shake like on the attraction.

I’ll try to go over the changes at some point, at least using some pictures I took of the process. It probably won’t be in time for this Halloween. Bear with me. It’s been a rough year with a tough medical diagnosis for my mother.

In this video from 2021, I used 4. The pumpkins and Leota use an AAXA P7. The porch uses an Optoma Short Throw. The bedroom window uses a Vankyo V630. As of this year, I am also using another Vankyo V630 for the door ghosts.

You can download it from RUclips if you have a browser plugin that allows it. It differs from depending on the browser. I can’t help with that. Alternatively, you can find posts I’ve made about the decoration on the AtmosFX decorating group or the Original Haunted Mansion Fan Club on Facebook. I think I’m about out of room for the display, room to store things, time to setup and break down each night, and out of ideas for big additions.

@@mapotter99 A small addition would be to get a couple of Sonic Ghosts from Haunt Hobbyist. Disconnect the sound and lights, keep the housing, power the motors to run continuously, and then mount them solidly behind each of the knees of your Caretaker to give him that shaky knee look.

The orientation refers to the projector’s placement, which is how AtmosFX labels their videos.

You’ll need a browser plugin specific to your browser that allows you to download RUclips videos. RUclips doesn’t offer that feature themselves. You’ll have to google how to do it with your browser.

I have gray power mesh from Amazon cut to size and grommeted, and then secured to the back of the storm door using command hooks. Gray power mesh is the same material AtmosFX uses for their Hollusion fabric.

I’m not sure. I’ve never had that problem where I live.

I can’t help with that since every browser is different, but you may be able to find a browser plugin that can help you.
