Attempting to delegitimise a political entity by "deconstructing" historical figures associated with it? JMS really did predict modern progressivism, didn't he?
Still an amazing piece of character storytelling. Even though they are holograms, Sheridan and company immediately saw thorugh the BS that the New Earth Government was trying to put out.
I´m impressive with this show every time, seem´s brazilian Lula da Silva´s party watch the entire 5 seasons and decide to go with the Shadows. This clip is exactly what it is happening with the brazilian justicial system. But the word is not facts it is "resignifying things"

This sounds so current it's frightening, J. Michael Straczynski was an absolute prophet. he predicted the whole facts vs Feelings mindset currently on display in the woke movement right now. It is frightening how much this man got right, the predictions and the real outcomes he saw and put into this masterpiece of a series
The Woke Movement is not the problem. The woke people are the ones who are aware of injustice -- preferably by having had a good history education and not sleeping through it, but if you can't get that, then being observant and thinking critically (which you would need to make good use of the history education anyway) will have to do.

When it comes to history, we change it based upon society. Even today, it changes not on truth, but society.

This show just proves fascists and authoritarian figures have no original ideas and use the same tactics, its why it seems eerily similar to what's happening for the last 5 years in America but in reality B5 is based on the events of Nazi Germany. This show even laments this, because in B5 they toppled a fascist regime but hundreds of years into the future more arise to take their place and are making the same mistake again. They might tone down the imagery or attempt to appear less radical to detract from being compared to their predecessors but I assure you its the same shit every time.

Earth needs to expand. This is a legitmate problem for an organization like the Alliance. The races cannot simply stick to thier old borders and territories they must be aloud to expand. And when there is a dispute in territory it may have no other resolution then war. The rangers cant keep everyone penned in forever.

It's hilarious seeing how many in the comments are basically spouting GoodFacts or accusing others of spouting GoodFacts (which is basically the same thing) while pretending that they've got all the RealFacts. The point of propaganda is to make you believe that only your side has all the truth and therefore the other side is wholly wrong. B5 is only prophetic by demonstrating what it looks like to have these historical cycles played out in current (or future) times as it surely will and as it is doing so today. If you think you're immune, you're already involved in it.

@@613harbinger316 you just view it that way because you don't view the side you agree with as propaganda. Perception is a powerful tool depending on your beliefs. The lines between fact and fiction can get pretty blurred when out human emotions get involved.
There are many verifiable facts and evidence which only one side is deliberately denying, substituting positions based solely on emotion and wishful thinking. No side is guiltless, but treating them as equivalent just makes it easier for us all to walk down the fascist road, yet again.

Amazing and terrifying how this sci fi scenario concept is actually becoming our reality today. Both sides of the political spectrum are playing into this ideology madness and the majority of the common man is caught in between it, all. I used to think things like that "SS" logo were too heavy handed in associating characters like this with fascism and the Nazis. Now I realize it's not only realistic, but too subtle. These guys would be hanging up Swastikas.

In order to make this work, you have to convince people about the goodfacts being realfacts, and make up badfacts while presenting them as goodfacts from the enemy. Then you have your goodfact seen as realfact, and you also have goodfacts from the enemy as contrast seen as not being real. In worst case your government present the realfacts coming from the enemy as just being goodfacts in order to dismiss them for political reasons. I mean, politically, a presented realfact is nothing else than a preferred goodfact in most cases.
And this apparently happens in 2020...

Understanding is a three-edged sword. Your side, their side and the truth. Without any understanding of "their side" you are never quite likely to shine a light on the truth. If you only have one narrative and you don't understand your counterparts, you are likely blind and ignorant. And the irony here is that those of you who do not know what you do not know are doomed to believe I am talking about the other side. Whereas those of you who do know what you do not know will know I am talking about the other side. And both sides will express it isn't them. Celestial levels of irony here.
And the hits keep coming - yesterday Websters online dictionary updated the definition of “preference” in reaction to new political talking points. The more things change the more they stay the same. Paper has a significant advantage here - they can’t just modify it on a whim. Glad I have B5 on physical media.

@@1982Obsidian I didn't search for it, surprisingly it was in my RUclips recommendations. I watched it earlier and then days later the Websters thing happened and it was unbelievably on the nose. We have a large swath of people who think 1984 was an instruction manual instead of a cautionary tale - that's what's really scary.
