Find out what's NEW in Graphtec Cutting Master 5 software.
Hey Good day I’m looking to get into this business because my events business heavily outsources printing and I want to make it in-house Would you offer any advice? The mimaki looks impressive but I’m completely green on everything. I just know I need a large format flatbed printer that can also print on rigid surfaces I need all the guidance you’re willing to offer. Thank you Have a good day
I am having a issue with this software. I just installed on a new computer, windows 11 and illustrator 25. It does not seem to read the registration marks, I have tried multiple times. Any idea on what I could be doing wrong? Thanks Tony, great video.
Hi Kevin, Unfortunately CM5 doesn't work with Illustrator 2025 yet. You would need to downgrade your version to 2024. follow this link to see how - helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html Looking at their site CM was updated on 10/30/24 so I would try Ver28. It's tough for Graphtec to keep-up with Adobe constantly putting out updates. Another this you should consider is to turn off automatic updates so once you find an older version that works it will not update automatically on you. I should probably put out a video on this as I have been asked this quite a bit lately. Let me know if you were successful.
hey, have you heard that the rest of the world use non ret*rd measures units?
Hi, Im actually looking for a smaller printer something in the range of a 1000 dollars ... I have clients but not enough to consider that kind printer.. can you recommand me something?
Hi, If you want to produce stickers and smaller items there are plenty of printers that can print on vinyl. You would probably be limited to 11x17 inches and would need a separate cutter for die cutting. Mutoh did just release their C641SR. It’s a 24” print and cut all in one. It is $6995 and Roland has their BN20 and BN2 print cut. The BN20 can be purchased for $2500. That’s about the lowest you could find a print/cut. You might want to consider leasing for a low monthly payment.
@@graphicinsights466 I was thinking about something that would allow me to print 13x19 or 18x24 do you know of anything that is worth looking at?
I can read a data sheet.
Affordable my ass.
Hi Mike, thanks for the video’s. I am looking for a way to do white floods on Lexan. Now, I 2nd surf print digitally and pass along to a flatbed screen press. I’m looking in the $30k range. Would love to tap into your expertise for options.
Sorry I missed this comment. It sounds like the current process with screen flood is a cost effective and fast. Why are you looking to switch? I don't know of anything in the $30k range that will compete with what you're doing now. Another option is to look at CET or Vanguard as they both offer printers that are field upgradeable and you can upgrade 2-8 heads just for white to keep the speed up , but will pay $80-150k.
Hi my pleasure . What would you choose between the Mimaki Jfx200-2513 ex or the Roland versa co-640i ?
Thanks for reaching out. They are both great printers but if I had to choose one and speed wasn't a factor, it would be the Roland. The Roland is a 5'x8' bed compared to the 4'x8' bed, 9" print height compared to the 2" Mimaki print height. The Roland offers Red and Orange ink options for a much wider color gamut and comes with a 2 year warranty. Where the Mimaki really excels is its speed. If you need to produce more than 300 sq' per hour, then the Mimaki would be a better fit.
@@graphicinsights466 thanks for your reply . One more question ? Your thoughts about the jfx200 1213 ex that mimaki just released ? It is the same technology as the 2513 ex model but of course , medium size ?
Can you go over how to setup the matrix copy print function? I’m trying to setup the file so that it scans each instance of art on my sheet because it’s a really complex kiss cut.
If I'm understanding correctly, in order for the cutter to scan each instance you will need to send over a separate file each time. If that didn't answer your question, please reach out to me at mike@graphic-insights.com
Is there a smaller version that can still do the job?
Depends on what you want to produce: If you're looking for 30" print/cut all in one in Eco-SOL then check out the Mimaki CJV200-75 series. If 30" UV print/cut then the Roland MG-300 30" UV printer is the smallest least expensive and if looking for a flatbed you could look at the Roland BD8 UV flatbed printer for objects as it has no cutting capabilities
Does hp latex consume much more electricuty than the others?
Latex printers in general consume more electricity than other printer types like eco-sol and UV because Latex printers require a lot of heat and fans to cure the resin ink and get all of the water out for a dry print.
Measurements in cm should help non US citizens
Thanks for the tip. I will add the cm.
is v bond better than eco-u ver-2
I think so especially if you’re printing on plastics, glass, acrylics etc. plus they’re toy safety compliant.
@@graphicinsights466 so v bond can do everything that eco-uv ver 2 can but more . at half the price .or am i missing somthing

Firstly, it was great content! I wanted to ask your advice on which inks will work best would be more durable for outdoor use on PVC or Vinyl. We do a lot of outdoor branding and are looking for a ink solution that will last the longest in the hot, sunny climate of South Africa. What do you belive is better UV to Latex.
Eco-sol or latex would be the best ink for vinyl pvc and will hold up well in outdoor applications.

Thanks for the feedback! Choosing between those two ink types in that environment I would go with latex but I cannot recommend HP. Epson and Roland would be great but you should stay away from printers with thermal print heads. There isn’t anything wrong with UV, but I think latex would hold up better/longer. Good luck with your business!! Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@graphicinsights466 Thank you so much for your feedback! I always take your advice to heart. I was just about to pull the trigger on the HP 800w, but after reading your comment, I stopped completely. Is there a particular reason you’d suggest avoiding HP?
I won't ever recommend HP Printers because of the type of heads they use in all of their printers. Thermal printheads are inexpensive which appeals to most when replacing them. The problem comes with them degrading so quickly (about every 2 cartridges per head). Because you use ink colors at different rates the printheads are always at varying stages of wear. That said, you will not only have a heck of a time repeating color ie; A wrap gets in an accident and you need to reprint a panel or you print a fleet of vehicles and when the they are parked next to one another the color will be noticeably off. Depending on your print run I have seen colors off during long print runs for walls or trailers with color being off panel to panel. If you want to go latex there are better options. Look at the Epson R5070. It has a single printed that's user replaceable (not meant to be replaced on a regular basis) but still gives you the option. Color and quality are exceptional.
Thanks for the video. I am still not such which would be best for my needs. But I need a printer that could print on a 4x8 foam board, vinyl printing/lettering on a transfer paper, and maybe cut the letters as well
Thanks for watching! It's not an easy decision. All of the printers mentioned in the video will do what you're looking to accomplish and more. You should decide on a budget first and then look at what you want to be able to do in the future and make sure you can do what you need it to do now. It's a big investment so make sure you can grow into it while making your money back as quickly as possible.
Whatvwillbe the most recomended printer 48" to 56" to scann paintings and printing in Art papers America siza
What type of machine will be available to do do this
In China cost 25.000 US dollar good uv printer.
I have installed Cutting Master 5 on two different computers and it isn't showing up on either Illustrator programs one is Ai 2024 and other is Ai 2023. You have any suggestions on how to get the plugin to show up in illustrator??? I can't find any informations anywhere and I have uninstalled and reinstalled both programs and it hasn't helped...
I would uninstall them and make sure that Illustrator is closed when installing them. You can reach out to me at mike@graphic-insights.com
can you detail the hand for the Powderless DTF printer. How much heavier and are there any longevity issues or others? Great video, just found your channel and it's boosted to #1 in this field. F'n love it.
Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure about the longevity, but the hand felt softer than traditional DTF in my opinion. Time will tell on durability, but as soon as I have more information, I will post it to the channel.
Is there any type that cost less than 6,000 euros but works very.
Not 54” that I know of but there are some 20 and 24” ones I will be doing videos on shortly.
I appreciate that you determined what entry level meant to you at the start, but $100k is more like 'established small business' level and not entry. If entry, it's more like retired boomer with too much money in their savings entry level (and man do I wish that was me, sounds fun). What I think a lot of us are looking for is what we can buy to enter the market and learn, aka true entry level. $100k is quite a lot for an entry/starter machine! Maybe you look at entry level as already practicing and ready to start a small scale established business? If so, I can see it, and this is a nice list. A list of true entry level or 'starter/learner' UV flatbed printers would be really nice. Or is around $10k/$1k or less simply not good quality? If so, then I can understand where this video comes from. I just wish that bell sound didn't blow out my speakers every few minutes, because I do like your presentation style.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment, I do appreciate the feedback. You are correct in saying this list is more for an established business that has been creating graphics and is looking to enter into UV flatbeds market to increase sales or grow their business to the next level. Please stick around as I have a video coming out shortly that does discuss smaller UV entry level flatbed printers and a couple of alternatives. Working on the script now.
What is your view for buying Eco solvent wide format printer from China vs buying a Japanese printer
I think both are capable of building quality printers at comparable prices. It ultimately comes down to support. You can build the best printer on the market, but it’s worthless if you can’t get it up and running correctly. Which printers were you comparing?
❤❤❤
I need more information, I can’t find any other videos on this technology
Love the videos
Thanks!!
Thanks for sharing. Wish I had gotten a chance to go this year. Always exciting to see new toys in action!
I have been going for over 15 years and this one ranked up there with one of the biggest.
First like, first comment! Nice video!!
Thanks!!
They will be sending you your trophy. Hopefully you get many more as you grow up. 😂

I find you videos amazingly easy to watch with super detail. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching. Glad I could help.
Im sorry IDK in what works $15k is considered entry level
There are less expensive small format printers but when it comes to wide format (over 24"+) that's where they tend to start. I will say Mimaki just announced a $12k 54" printer. Video coming soon.
Does it have a heavy feel like vinyl?
The feel was the lightest I have ever felt for DTF
@@graphicinsights466 really? Man, I’ll have to read up more on it. Thanks for sharing.
I would love to know the price on this type of equipment. DTF is at the top of the trend at this moment in time and will be for sometime. Especially for a cottage industries. Did I miss it or does it not say the manufacturer or equipment providerthat this powder DTF is available through?
The manufacturer is kinglet and the price is $26k for the printer, dryer and takeup. I will be posting the video soon
Thank you - very clear and simple explanation.
Wish I could be there, but unfortunately won't be attending this year. Maybe next time.
man, if i get into this business. i need to know where to get acrylic blanks wholesale ., pvc and foam boards., I WOULD GO for the MIMAKI for sure and what would be the best CNC CUTTER to cut all the boards.
If you’re in Hawaii it looks like One Shot Supplies would have sheets of foam coro and acrylic. If you’re in the lower 48 there’s plenty of places like Laird plastics, Grimco and Glantz. As for the CNC Mimaki has a good one. I would also look at Colex. If you don’t plan on cutting ACM (Aluminum Composite Material) then you could also look at the Summa F Series. If you have a bigger budget for a cutter there is always a Zund.
@@graphicinsights466 man, you are dope thanks for this info. i would look into this. ALOHA
@@graphicinsights466 thanks for sharing man. ALOHA TO YOU
What are your thoughts on cannon printers. ? Im looking to start a business and dont have much to invest but wanna get a used one, found a canon ipf760 used for $1000. Would you recommend that? I want to print banners / party cutouts probably cut by hand
That printer would work for banners and stickers. Ink and media cost will be higher than an eco-sol or uv option but it would certainly work. Sorry, I don’t know enough about the printer to recommend it. I would recommend the pigment over the dye inks for what you want to do with it as they have some short turn outdoor uv protection.
@@graphicinsights466 you have so much knowledge, I appreciate so much that you take the time to respond.
What ever you do, don’t buy a latex printer. The color is inconsistent due to the nature of the technology. I’ve used all of them and they are all the same. I believe it has something to do with the curing of the ink when it comes out of the printer. There are some work arounds but, they really don’t solve the problem of you have to do a reprint. You’ll never be able to match prints. Not to mention, it takes two 220 volt connections and operates at 2500 watts and you can run 10 mild solvents for every on latex printer.
I agree. The issue is the thermal print heads. Most companies see the replacement of their own print heads as a huge money saver. The fact is that the heads degrade so quickly and unevenly you will never be able to match color even when you print an entire roll with the same heads and if you replace one of those heads while printing that roll, it will be different from the previous panel.
@@graphicinsights466 - It not in the Green-Sales-Pitch or the fine print.
You are right! I own the HP L365 and I’m having trouble to match a color on vehicle wraps. If you print a 8 feet portion the end of the print doesn’t match the beginning of your print. Bad investment
Great Video, anyone know where the Job queue is? I had two jobs pending in the queue
What versions of Illustrator work with CM5? I am running 28.6 and CM5 plug in does not show up in Illustrator.
Do they work with onxy rip?
The Roland CO-640 does but you would have to reach out to Onyx to see if that also covers the new COi printers. My guess would be yes but best to ask Onyx.
I was confused why Canon wasn't in the video, but then i remeber your price criteria
I have a business where I have a supplier who creates printed playmats 24x14" (same as mousepads) but I want to bring production inhouse. What printer would you recommend? It would be for 60 playmats a day on average all different designs. Do you offer consultations as well?
Do you need white or clear and is there specific colors that you need to print or match? What’s your budget? Yes, I offer consulting if you want I to reach out via my email mike@graphic-insights.com we can discuss further.
What should I use to print on large (max 4' x 8' surface) steel and aluminum surfaces?
You can use a larger UV Printer or you can use a roll to roll printer to print to adhesive vinyl and stick it to the steel and aluminum surfaces. Check out the video I recently put up about the best entry level u. Flatbed printer or save. Bunch of money and buy a roll to roll printer from Mimaki or Roland.
❤❤❤
BIG Question is: How long do each of these units need to warm up the platin before being able to print? This really effects startup and production warm up and cool down time. Also any machines that print & cut will be much slower then a stand alone printer and cutter. All the print and cut machines have print then rewind the image all the way back to then cut. Drastically increasing your production time.
mike is the best !!!!!
Thanks! I hope it goes well with the printer purchase
Is there anything actual affordable for small shops less 5k-10k
Unfortunately there are no printers with that size bed in that price range. There are smaller ones like the Roland BD-8 that would be in that Tori e range or you might be able to fine a used one with an 18x24 bed.
@@graphicinsights466 thank you for the suggestions. I will check for them, in ebay. Also in Europe is a bit difficult to find. I am able to find some uv printers of 60cm x 90 cm with Epson printer heads and in my budget. They are from Ali express, but my use case doesn't demand heavy usage and errors and lower resolution prints are fine too. I know it's has high risk of failure, etc. But I have to risk it since. I am a start up😕. Your experienced opinion would be of great help for me.
