Yardwork with John
Добавлен 10 июн 2022
Sit back, relax, and zone out while I do my yardwork. Mowing and trimming in the Summer, leaf wrangling in the Fall, snow removal in the Winter, and any other interesting projects that pop up!
Replacing the Ignition Coil on a Troy Bilt Lawnmower
This video shows you how to replace the ignition coil on a Troy Bilt TB110 push mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine. The ignition coil is the part that creates the surge of electricity that goes to the spark plug by way of the magnets on the spinning flywheel.

First Yardwork of Fall - No Leaves Yet - Late September
Просмотров 193День назад
Sadly, Summer is over and Fall has arrived. Fortunately, most of the trees are still green, and there are not many leaves on the ground yet. Cold weather is coming but it's not here yet! My lawn is looking pretty good overall. We've had a couple of big rainstorms, plus I put down some grub killer and fertilizer, so things are getting nice and green. EXCEPT the few areas where skunks have dug up...

This is amazing, John! I am a rookie about to undertake changing the belt and blade. What socket sizes are needed?
Did you mow so you can post on Wednesday
The last mowing video I posted was after this coil video, so that mow is this coil running. I generally do one mowing video every 2 weeks and I try to post on monday mornings but lately I've been doing the yardwork on saturday instead of thursday so the video doesn't make it out by monday. So I don't really have a strict posting schedule.
@@YardworkWithJohn okay
Husqvarna guy like me but I’m going away from the brand
Husqvarna with a honda motor. This mower has been a TOTAL champ for me!
Great vid! I know “rich” and “lean” are the technical terms for how it can be running which tells you what needs adjusted, but the way you labeled the screws high speed and low speed made it click for me. Now it feels obvious. Thanks!
Thanks! It's funny, just today I tried adjusting them again while I was weedwacking and ended up making it worse. Once I dialed it in, I should have left it alone! hah!
Hate that! Right after I got it all dialed in and felt happy and relieved my son said the mower wouldn’t start. Then my wife said the vacuum quit. THEN my other son said the newly tuned trimmer died 😱 I kid you not. Thankfully they were all quick fixes but sheesh. 🤦🏼♂️
I’m getting a cordless trimmer. Done messing around with my husqvarna 128DJX. POS. Never worked properly from day one.
Really? I've had excellent luck with this husqvarna trimmer. I don't know what model it is but its always started right up for me and ran great. It may help that this machine has had fresh gas and oil and seafoam mix in every tank its whole life. But it's probably 6 or so years old at this point and still runs like a champ. I also have a chainsaw attachment on it that I use once in a while. I want to get one of those sweeper attachments for it but they seem to be hard to find.
At least yours is running 😢
Like a champ!
Grass looks good John!
Thanks John!
ah yes, just push all of the clippings in the drain blocking it from being able to drain.
A handful of grass clippings will have no effect on the water coming down that drain, don't you worry.
I got a new carburetor. But tried to adjust low and top Phillips screw cranks run but want stay idle it die..never messed with high screw..any help please.
I tried what you did but have to have to hold trigger Rev up.if no it dies..wow do I adjust like that?? Thanks.
@@charlessalard4636 The low screw could need to be opened more, but also theres a separate screw for the idle rpm, its basically setting the minimum throttle amount. It could also be that that needs to be adjusted.
Thankfully cordless machines are available now. I detest spending any amount of time trying to get my two stroke machines to work. I have the husqvarna 128 djx whacker and it is a POS. From day one it was a problem starter. I’ve spent more time trying to get it to run than actually doing work with it. Similar story with my husqvarna 450 chainsaw (though I had 3-4 good years initially). My husqvarna 843FR brush cutter has been a champ for 12 years. Can’t figure out why such a difference in performance between them? 🤷♂️
I've had nothing but trouble with every gas chainsaw I've ever owned. But this trimmer has always been an easy, reliable starter for years. And while I do see the benefit to electrics, my yard is big and there is a lot of edging to do all the way around. Plus I have a chainsaw attachment for this trimmer that I use a lot. So it works well for me. But if I had a smaller yard, I would definitely consider something electric.
When the lower unit does not go all the way up, slowly bump-bump-bump it softly up as you barely turn the prop just a little until it slips all the way up. Something turned the prop just a little, probably the garbage can, if NOTHING moves, they usually slip right in. When it doesn't, just a small fraction of a turn, and pop, it goes in. Motor should be in reverse in this process. Also, next time antiseize the bolts.
Just Curious, how long did the job take??
Well its hard to say because when you're filming, everything takes forever. And then I had to wait for the gaskets to arrive because I didn't pre-order though because I was hoping to reuse the old ones but that didn't happen. So for me it took a few weeks. But if I had to do it again this season, I could probably bust it out in two hours.
Great job perfect lines looks beautiful
Thanks, it easy to keep the lines straight with this mower, its a very nice machine. I've been using a cheaper one lately from time to time and my lines get all cooked with that one.
Song?
It's from the youtube studio audio library, so I don't know the name. They have tons and tons of music you can use in your videos.
So satisfying
TWSS lol :D
I find that the Florida heat bothers me less as I have gotten older, even when mowing (which I'm about to head outside to do).
Dude, mow your lawn down to the lowest setting first. Then dethach. Then overseed.
Do you have a link for the impeller kit you used
I do not, there are tons of different specific impellers, so you really need to look up the part number that your specific motor calls for.
Clean
Thanks, I only do it because people love watching it so much. Otherwise I'd only trim it like once a year. The grass is growing up over the top of the pipe so its not really clogging it at all.
So??
Huh?
Wash your car 🚗 and it will ☔🌧️
Hay mate, I have the very same outboard. Just wondering how you remover the cover?
A mulcher I see.
Mulching for sure. Why collect the clippings when nature will take care of them for you :D
Thank you!
Bag or mulch? What’s your preference
Mulch 100%! It's great when the lazier option is the better way to do it! The only time I bag is if there is a weed outbreak and those weeds are seeding. Like back when I was still battling large areas of crabgrass in my yard. I would bag those areas then mulch the rest. I think my first mow of the year this year, I bagged because we get this weird early spring weed that sprouts up everywhere. But once it gets warm, it goes away. Oh also getting rid of your bagged clippings is also a pain in the suburbs. We only have yardwaste pickup once a month. Plus grass clippings are smelly and heavy. I used to have to periodically drain stink water out of my grass clippings. It was such a pain, I'm so glad I don't have to mess with that any more!
Tip, don’t pull the dipstick until you lay it on its side
I think I would still spill it that way, but maybe spill less...
Hey, if you liked this weed wacking video, you'll really like this newer video I made a year later. More super tall weeds, but with a much better 4K camera! ruclips.net/video/b1xVrKJuh-c/видео.html Check it out!
When the gas gets in the vent like that is it dangerous
Is that a new push lawn mower that you got there?
It's an old one I'm refurbishing then selling. It's going to have it's own video, but I'm not done working on it yet. But it still runs well enough to mow my whole lawn, and I pulled the thing out of someones trash! LOL
@@YardworkWithJohn Oh I see.
. Wtf were you doing. Not useful.
I was adjusting the carburetor. Did you watch the video? What part don't you understand?
@@YardworkWithJohn An explanation of how many turns, cw/ccw, hi or low side. Thanks for taking your time though, sorry if my comment came off harsh. My bad.
@@oscarfarley4104 It's not a set number of turns. I'm turning the screws slowly and listening to how the engine behaves as I'm turning it.
@@YardworkWithJohn I did that and finally got it to what I thought was running sweet, with an after market cheapo Chinese carb. Now it runs great for 5 minutes then goes on strike.
@@oscarfarley4104 Hmm you might have an unrelated problem them, something thats not a matter of adjustment.
В чем смысол😮😮😮
The grass is looking so much better after that the detaching video!!
Honestly I really haven't seen much difference at all up close. Just lik ebefore the dethatching, the areas that get water and shade are super green, and the other areas are brown and crunchy :( I don't think I'll be dethatching again, there really didn't seem to be any benefit. But you have to look really close to see this, you're probably not going to be able to see that level of grass detail from my videos. At least until iPhones start recording 8K video :D
I am currently struggling to get the lower unit off.. its in neutral - does it has to be in gear ? Did you touch the linkages at all ? Thanks
Off or ON? To get it off, all you have to do is undo the bolts and then tap it off and it should slide right out. Is it possible you are missing a bolt or two? Putting it in neutral or drive only has to do with reassembly, not taking it apart.
You missed one....lol...just kidding!!
P.s. use soap not grease.
I’m still looking, but I’m pretty sure it has to be in a gear or neutral, can’t remember which that’s the reason why I’m watching videos. I don’t remember why it’s important.
mercury inboard & out board s every thing is done in forward gear as far as the pump housing put the impella & key on the pump base first slide the pump body down the drive shaft to the impella hold down on it & turn the prop with your foot . never use a floor jack if both lower unit & shift handle or controls are in forward and the water tube is lined up it should just slip right back on .
Why post this stupid shit
That’s impeller is shot. Compare it to the new one. Once the vanes stay curved then it’s pretty much spent.
On the two screws? What's the *BASELINE* settings? Turn all the way in to shut them off, then...what? How many turns to open, just to get the baseline where it will run? I can take things from there.
I don't know that they have a baseline setting the way you describe. That's why I'm adjusting them while its running to hear and feel the effect in real time.
@@YardworkWithJohn I found it on another video. Turn all the way in until snug, then slowly open one full turn, and then 1/4 turn. Adjust from there!
@@IonOtterdid you find info on what the baseline for the rpm Philips screw is?
@@diego_villena I did, yes! Close carefully, all the way. Then open 1.25 turns. Adjust from there.
That's natural fertilizer...the way it was meant to be !!! Your yard looks good as always!!
No grease on top! It can cause the shaft not to completely seat properly
И Какая польза от такой работы халтура
You missed one...just kidding...keep up the good work !!
I actually miss a lot when I weed wack. My level of perfection is much lower than what professionals who do this every day might be looking for :) And I'm ok with that.
RIGHT TO LEFT DAMN IT
I do right-ro-left, in-between my left-to-rights :D
THANK YOU! I couldn't find anything like this for my 9 level husqvarna, so I'm glad to have done idea of what height in cutting my new grass at!
I wonder if the shaft key came off the impeller and that caused it to not spin and suck water. - Thank you for the video
I don't think so, the key was right where it belonged when I took the old impeller off. Also it did seem to work at higher RPM.
You suck😂😂💪🏾🇼🇸🇦🇸🇹🇴💯🥥🔥👌🏾
I read on Reddit that it could also be the gas cap vent hole being plugged? Ever looked into that?
My machine is pretty new and fairly clean so that wouldn't be likely for me but I guess it could be possible on older machines.
is it okay to use
Do you mean the lawnmower, with all the gas all over it? If so, yes. Gas evaporates extremely quickly so as long as your outside, the gas will be gone in a minute or two.
