Sunshine - Seneca Rocks: First 5.10 Trad Climb
Will it work well if the climber falls headfirst?
I took off the pull cord on my ropeman 4 , it just doesn’t seem safe and could possibly get pulled into my bottom device which is the micro traction for top rope solo.
Hey man! Would you telling us what gear you are using? Looks awesome! A gri gri and a traxion?
@iliketurtles6914 It's a Trango Vergo. Details are here: sicgrips.blogspot.com/2020/08/vergo-for-top-rope-soloing.html?m=1
...and here: sicgrips.blogspot.com/2022/06/self-belay-system-for-home-climbing-wall.html?m=1
Very nice
The spring stops the device from locking prematurely, so removing it seems counterproductive, and it seems what's making this work is the orientation of the device?
With the GG held up right, it feeds beautifully as long as you pull slack down, and then clip the pro/bolt. While climbing it feeds great as long as you manage the cache loop. The advantage of the "no-spring" GG mod is that it immediately locks up with no delay in a normal fall, sitting on the rope, or high clip. The big negative is that it won't hold an inverted fall, so some type of backup is mandatory.
У меня такие же доролнительные карабины )
how is this attached on the other side?
DetIls here: sicgrips.blogspot.com/2022/08/grigri-3-hub-system-for-lead-rope.html
Un sprung? Wouldn’t that make it harder to feed slack
For normal belaying, yes, though it can be done with thumb on the tab. For lead rope solo (self-belaying), with the proper setup (chest harness with GG held upright), no - it feeds well.
this is exactly what i was looking for. thanks! awesome wall btw!
If you ever do a video showing how you built your setup, I'd be super grateful!! Currently planning out my own and seeking out info from others who've successfully made self-belay at-home systems has been a little difficult. Great work!
Is this spring deactivated? I don't own a Grigri +, by default on top rope mode does it feed/break better than de default grigri3?
No. If both gg+ and gg3 are held up by being rigged as shown, and both have the rope tab intact, they will feed the same. However, if the gg+ is set to the TR spring mode, it will lock much quicker and more positively than the gg3.
That’s sick but when you get to more complicated walls you won’t have as much freedom to move around
i guess you could probably not have it attached at the bottom
@Arithmophobia it's not tied at the bottom. The rope runs through a pulley to keep the rope at the angle of the 20 deg wall. If I didn't do this, then the rope (and weight on the bottom of the rope) would be in the climbers face and exert an outward pull on the climber. If the wall is vertical, then it's not an issue, and there is no need to anchor it through the pulley at the bottom. The whole system is about compromises.
i had this idea the other day, i knew it had to be possible! thank you for proving me right!
Dit you had to drill in your grigri? Or how dit you attach the string? I'm alsoo starting to get into lead rope solloing
What's the point of this? Im genuinely curious. Is this some experimental way of belaying to get a more consistent braking or something?
This is something that I've used in lead rope soloing (self-belay). I created the video clip to show how easily the rope runs through the GG and how easy it locks up without the spring. I put it up on RUclips so that it would be easy to reference it in my blog: sicgrips.blogspot.com
That’s sick
What is the difference
Check out #5 mod here. It explains how it's been modified: sicgrips.blogspot.com/2023/01/el-tacano.html
@@SICgrips thanks man. Tried lrs on a single revo and was absolutely terrified did not lock up soon enough. Tried a lrs on a non inverted gri gri out of necessity and was a total shit show. Super excited to one day have this all sorted out so I can have many safe and fun solo cumbres!!
I wouldn't recommend these mods unless you really know what you're doing. I'd suggest that you try #1 in my blog that I linked. It requires a minimal amount of modifying (one drilled hole) and still locks up and feeds well with the right rope (9.2 - 9.4). Make sure to use a GG+ set to the TR (weak spring) mode.
Nice! I want to try it
