Using a bike to ask WHY
1664km of Nothing | ON THE ROAD Ep.4
The Eyre Highway is a 1664km road connecting the states of Western Australia and South Australia via the Nullarbor Plain. It's an infamous road for those that decide to traverse it, particularly among bikepackers, earning its reputation from the lack of shoulder to cycle on, the baron landscape and consequential wind, danger from the traffic and lack of turns.
I found it hard to put this episode of On The Road together. My goal with these videos is to convey and express feelings rather than logistics, however playing you 7 hours of tarmac rolling past would neither be entertaining nor enough to get across just how accumulatively numbing the Eyre Highway is to ride.

The Land Down Under | ON THE ROAD Ep.3
Просмотров 8 тыс.3 месяца назад
It's been a while since Japan. I fell ill towards the end of my time there and was out of action for a couple of weeks and following this went to Indonesia to race in the Lintang Flores 1000km Ultra. But now I'm back on the road with a serene eagerness to cross the red centre via the Great Central Road, a 1000km unsealed and rarely ridden track from Western Australia to the Northern Territory. ...

In August 2022 Boru set off to bikepack his way around the world, with part 1 of MindMapping covering the reasons for wanting to embark on this journey and the first few months of living nomadically. This second part now tells the story of the 7 months that followed - from the mountains in northern India to the warm seas in Borneo. If he had kept to his original timeline, Boru would have been h...

what's the song on that final part with the different vertical shots? kinda wanna add it to a playlist i have for long, long rides
You captured the highs & lows of crossing the paddock well. The long straight roads, wonderful people you meet at the roadhouses, spectacular sights along the way and more than anything the sheer joy when that constant headwind finally turns around and gives you a push along. Good luck & enjoy the trip up the middle. 🍕🚴🍍
You're such a huge inspiration to me :)
congrats Boru for unlock the new achievement...enjoy the ride man
Doing the GCR in the mud would have been a nightmare.....trust me.
this video made me cry, really good luck!!
This video was once again amazing, the way in which you've captured the feelings, the storytelling, the videography combined with the music, it gave me literal goosebumps and somehow made me all emotional. Thanks for sharing this experience and doing it in such an inspiring way ❤
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I watched your video again and i dont think you realise how symbolic of life it is everything you say is exactly like the life journey soo interesting thankyou!
What you say about arriving and trying to fall asleep is EXACTLY like life suddenly you arrive at 67 and 18 seems 2 min away but a long 2 min away
Hey Mate, thanks so much for taking us along on your journey on & off the bike. I do believe that you were meant to do this ride and share how beautiful people and the world can be. Ride safe and sorry about all the punctures you’ve had here in Oz. If you’re coming via Brisbane give us a yell.
Absolutly brilliant love this as usual thoughtful and contemplative thanks!
Never disappoint❤ ride safe🤝
What a feeling you captured with this edit and what journey you are on. Thanks for sharing it with the world
What an honest moment you shared with us at the Eyre sign. Thanks for continuing to share your unique journey.🚲
An incredible journey, and such great storytelling. Love it
Love it mate x
Definitely expressed some real feeling with this one - loved it!
an absolutely amazing video. been watching your videos for quite some time now and it's making me want to just go out there. keep up the work and safe travels❤
Incredible videos dude. Thankyou!
I walked it. Heaps to see. Was the best part of Perth to Sydney . Nice video. Thanks
Superb!
"Everyone warns you about the spiders and snakes but no one about the flies or ants" it's SO relatable omg ahhaha
I’ve seen one snake, but swallowed countless flies 🥲 my record was 5 in a day on the Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa walks
Loved the description of the timelessness of the nullabor. I experienced something very similar in OZ... I imagine its what the Aboriginals call the dreamtime....100 countries traveled and only in Oz does this happen. I would keep drifting away in my mind to somewhere wonderful then snap back to reality.
nice capture
extraordinary Boru.
What a great piece of work, the images, the story, the music, the editing. Just a pleasure to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just love and get so inspired by these videos documenting your journey. The storytelling is just beautiful! Feels like I'm emotionally there with you almost. Huge probs to the editing as well!
Thank you so much for these films. ♠️♥️
You are doing Blighty proud mate 🏴👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
as always, your videos are so inspiring, the goal is the journey with ups and downs. So authentic and truthful… Have you ever considered making it into a book when you finish your trip ?
I’ve definitely considered it. I hope I can 🤞
Keep doing you man. This is the best series on RUclips!
Hey Boru! How’s your experience with the 1by drivetrain during the trip? I’m about to decide between 1 and 2by for my next gravel/bikepacking setup and would love to hear your opinion! Doesn’t seem like you’re spinning out on the road rides and it also looks like you’re comfortable on bigger climbs - so did you ever feel the need for a larger gear range or smaller gaps?
I do often miss the 2x setup. Bike weight doesn’t matter so much on the flats so I find you want near to normal gears, but on the climbs the weight is such a factor that the wider range a 2x setup gives can make it a lot more comfortable. With the weight of a touring set up, I think it’s also important to not push too hard a gear so that your knees don’t give up on you 20 years too soon. 2x means you can always find the perfect cadence for your speed, rather than having to adjust your speed for the cadence. The first diverge I had (the one I’m riding in the Mind Mapping videos) comes as 1x, and I changed it before leaving to 2x for the above reasons. The Diverge STR I’ve been on since i arrived in Indonesia last year is 1x only and cannot take a front mech
Thank you so much for the elaborate answer. That’s what I thought already - awesome to get some first-hand feedback from you! I’ve been following your journey for some time now and it’s super inspiring! Keep up the great work and enjoy the ride!
goddamn this is so beautiful
Hands down the most entertaining bike touring videos out there 😮💨 Keep it up boss!!
absolutely amazing once again! So well put together and love the way you describe it all, even some the downsides and difficulties of it all. Keep it up, looking forward to the next one!
I appreciate it so much!
And again, he's produced a mind blowing story. I ordered a Specailized Diverge STR Comp last week, My first gravel bike and I'd be lying if i said you wasn't a huge inspiration behind that purchase, Been mountain biking for the last 5 years but damn I'm excited to explore the world in a different means now. Thank you for being such an inspiration!!!
There’s a world out there waiting! Enjoy the new bike day 🙏
MAAAN YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO NICE !! It’s a big wave of inspiration!!
I am a Japanese company employee who cycled around Japan about 10 years ago. Your video made me want to go on the trip again. This time I would like to do a slower bike ride and take my time to do a second week in Japan. Thanks, take care and be safe.
