I know it's a yellow belt technique; I was taught by Grand Master Brassard to use the way 1 Combination was taught back in the early days.
Beautiful..
Thank you! 😊
I once saw someone in class accidentally get hit too hard during a combo 4 drill, and they REALLY fell back like in the video. It doesn't take very much power at all to make someone fall backwards when hit with a roundhouse from the front.
Being a poor kicker, Han Suki feels like it's tailor made for a mainly hands person like me.
Ahhh you guys do it a little different than us in Villarie's system. We always aimed the leopard punch to the meaty part of the shoulder instead of the mid section. That would work too.
Yes, I have had different versions of this along with Combo 26 & Leopard Tackles Its Prey, similar beginnings. The strike to the body collapses the arm. My philosophy on this is, if you can grab the wrist, then strike to the body, since you already have control of the arm, If you cannot grab the wrist, then strike to the bicep or shoulder area to damage the arm.
I've always loved that combo.
It's a fun one with many different advanced applications. Do you call it " Dragon Rides The Wind " also?
@@kempokarate I honestly cannot remember. After about 15 years of training in Kenpo, my master had to move to take care of his mother in law in about 2015 or so, and I started Chen Tai Chi and Choy Li Fut Kung Fu after that. I remember the combo like it was yesterday, but the name escapes me.
Your a real dragon warrior im seeing.
Nice combination!
Glad you think so!
Like the technique.
Thank you!
@kempokarate you are welcome.
Thank You so much. The place where i went closed down and i forgot how to do combo 12. I am very grateful
Glad I could help!
Great video, Kenpo is one of the Best Martial arts focused on realistic self defense.
I'm impressed that you keep comments on. There are so many "experts" out there ready to criticize. It's the same baseless claims that have been made since BJJ became popular in the USA. They all seem to forget the effect of the block and the first strike on the body. AND, there is no expectation that this exact technique would ever be used exactly like this, it's the learning of all of these combinations that will supply the skills necessary to defend.
Very well stated. I enjoy the comments and criticism, I believe in Kempo and the skills that it teaches. When I first started teaching, I was challenged often by others as I was teaching in my own Dojo because they did not respect me or the system because I was younger and had less patience with people like that. I'm much older and wiser now and don't get challenged in person anymore, People get much more confidence when they are sitting in front of a keyboard and they have lots to say. I know BJJ is a great system, I have trained under Renzo Gracie when he first opened in NYC and years later in the Kioto system under Grandmaster Mansor. It;s great against 1 opponent at a time and if you end up on the ground. But Kempo's goal is to avoid the ground and win the fight on your feet. I do not want to be on the pavement in a fight if I don't have to, but if it gets there, I also have the training to strike or submit. Thanks for your comment. Keep enjoying the videos!!!
@@kempokarate I always appreciate your videos..as a new kickboxer myself.. I'm trying to incorporate into my system other things like karate kicks etc . Don't worry about the keyboard warrior types. You keep bringing us the content, sensei. God bless.
Belive this is also called DM
Yes, I believe that United Studios calls them Defensive Maneuvers "DM".
For this to work, you would need the assailant allow you to catch his wrist. Try doing that at full speed.
You are correct, you cannot catch a real punch, that's why this is not designed for a punch attack. It's designed if someone grabs or pushes you or you end up in a position where you have control of someones arms from the inside. These advanced techniques are concepts that are designed for times when you are in specific positions or situations. They are not designed to be executed literally. Anyone that takes classes from me understands that by an advanced level. No one should be trying top learn a Martial Art on RUclips, Take real classes and practice on real people with real resistance and you will learn how these techniques apply in a real situation.
He's going to tell you "this is for fighting, not sport" as if people didn't figure that was a nonsense argument 2 decades ago. You can't help folks like this.
You're not catching the punch, you're letting your hand slide down his wrist, and that's when you're grabbing it. I know, I spent over 15 years doing this combo at full speed. You can even see it in his video where his hand is sliding down the forearm.
Yes, your hand slides to the wrist if someone grabs or tries to push you. I have done it at full speed from a wide hook punch and it works also, but you cannot catch a real straight punch since it snaps back quickly. A lot of these people don't understand that you need to learn technique before application. It's like playing guitar if you just learn how to play songs but don't learn the scales or music theory, then you are limited in what you can do. Thanks for your comments and watching!!!
YEAH, THAT'S TOTALLY APPLICABLE IN A REAL FIGHT. YEAH. (sarcasm)
This is not the application, It's a concept and parts of this technique will work in specific situations.
@@kempokarate my bad. I thought you were a fighting style for real fight training.
Kempo is a street self defense system, It's not really designed for sport fighting, even though many Kempo fighters have done well in MMA. The advanced techniques are designed to put you in specific situations and teach you how to fight your way out, the same as in BJJ when you learn to escape a choke or armbar. You need to purposely place yourself in these awkward positions and practice specific ways of escaping. The difference is that Kempo does that in a stand up position which has more variables because you are more mobile on your feet than on the ground. Also, you need to focus on multiple attackers and different obstacles in your way. Trying to learn or understand a system from watching RUclips is not recommended, it should only be used as a reference, the applications are taught in class, in person against real people under real resistance and movement. Any style or technique from a video can be criticized, but that does not mean that it is not effective if placed in the correct situation. I have been teaching Kempo for over 30 years, I have trained in BJJ for 30 years, Tai Chi for over 30 years and Pekiti Tirsia for over 15 years, plus dabbled with many other styles over my career. I can find flaws in every style or any technique, that is why you need to learn a complete system to be able to put all the pieces together and make the style work for you. Hopefully this brief explanation helps and you can have a better understanding of what you are watching.
@@kempokarate Nonsense. I have a (hard earned) black belt in Kempo, Tae Kwon Do, AND I train MMA . The Karate and Tae Kwon Do were TOTAL BULLSHIT... i LEARNED more in 6 months of MMA than in my entire career in Kempo and TKD. Guys like you think because I box I'm actually .worse. at jabbing eyeballs and punching throats? (silly premise) You're teaching fraudulent martial arts. Quit hiding behind "street fighting"... no one wants to street fight an MMA fighter and everyone knows it - and for good reason. Go play pretend with your legos and quit selling fraudulent martial art. Like I did.
Again, someone with a closed mind and limited knowledge and experience of what they are seeing. Yes, no one wants to fight an MMA fighter on the street, but that's not why the average person studies Martial Arts. The trained fighter or Martial Artist is not the guy on the street attacking, mugging or getting drunk and starting a fight. MMA & Boxing are sports that translate to the street when needed and are effective. But the average 20 year old female college student or the 65 year old man does not want to roll around and have their neck cranked and joints twisted everyday. They want to have the confidence and knowledge that they can handle that bully or the guy that's trying to grab them, or the drunk trowing the haymaker. If you trained in Kempo and learned nothing, then blame your instructor or yourself for not understanding the system. The concepts that are taught in BJJ and Boxing are also in Kempo if you understand the system. Understand your audience, No one expects to be fighting Jon Jones on the street. Good Luck!
i need to see the fast version of this
This is only a reference for students that have learned it in class, that's why it's step by step at an easy pace. This is not the application.
@kempokarate okay
Or see him actually fight a qualified opponent. But he'll say "this is for street, not sport"... as if soldiers don't spar, cops don't spar - everyone dealing "with street" still train realistic (mma) movements. He's selling fraud.
@@kempokarate how many students are you bilking?
The reason I understand the difference between the street and the sport is that I have fought and competed in MMA, BJJ and Karate tournaments many years ago. My last competition was at 35 years old in Vegas, I am currently 58 years old. It's a different kind of training and focus and I know that I have a better understanding of real self defense now than I did in my younger more reckless years. Keep training and you will eventually be mature enough to understand what I am saying.
It has been many years since I studied Kemp Karate, it is so good to see some of the combinations, because I have forgotten many.
Glad, this is bringing back some good memories. Keep watching!
Here we have another lesson of pure Bullshido! 😅🎉

Some intense bullshido techniques here
Thanks for the comment, but no one is forcing you to watch. It's not for everyone.
@kempokarate you are complete charlatans. Here in Brazil, there are some charlatans and fake martial arts practitioners such as yourself. What you teach is not even enough to beat up a drunk 65yo man.
@kempokarate you're quite right :it's not for everyone, but only for those who believe in charlatans like you.
@kempokarate yeah... Erase the answers.. That is what con people and charlatans like yourself do. You're nothing but a con.
WOW, I'm glad you had an opportunity to use your new word of the day " charlatan". I'm so proud of you!!! The next word you should learn is " Respect ".

@kempokarate yes sir.
Okay I like it sir

Buckling Branch without the fan block on the punch. White belt defensive technique.
Is combination 12 a front ball kick with your left foot and a spinning back kick with your right foot?
Against a right side attack, Yes. As the right hip moves forward you stop it with your left side, it's the mirror image side instead of crossing your body with your right foot. It can work the other way, but is more efficient this way.
Never heard of this kempo before
It's a basic White belt Kempo if you are caught with your hands down. I have been teaching this technique for over 30 years. Hands come up to block and strike at the same time as the person attacks.
Is combination 9 a front snap kick a round house kick to a spinning back kick
Combination 8 is a front snap kick then a roundhouse kick. Combination 9 is a front ball kick then a roundhouse kick and ends with a side kick. This is the way I teach it, but I have seen 8 with a Ball kick and 9 with a Snap kick. I learned it multiple ways and had to pick one to teach as a foundation.
@@kempokarate awesome stuff great channel
Man this brings back some good memories
Very nice
Thanks
@@kempokarate the version I have is a little bit different at the end, but I like your version much better
I learned multiple versions of many techniques. I pick one to teach as a base and then teach the many applications as my students get more advanced.
@@kempokarate interesting
Great videos please keep them coming.
Thanks, will do!
These 8 are the most common. Then there's also 2 reversing lower blocks, and 2 straight down blocks. You could also add two more upper blocks. One upper block is to get under a head punch the other is angled to deflect an overhead strike. I wouldn't be surprised if there's even more....
You are so close to 1000 subscribers
Almost There!!!
Started my martial arts journey in 1972 I was ten … in kenpo 53 years ago this brings back such sweet memories..
You can always return, never too late.
Just as i remember it 30 years ago. This has helped me throughout my life. Thank u for putting this out there. Very important foundation
Glad it brings back good memories.
Nice!
Thanks!
you are my hero.. is there anyway I can get private lessons?
Absolutely!!!
you don't get the whole movement in real time
You're not supposed to get the whole movement in real time. These videos were originally designed for a reference for students that learned them in the Dojo. I made these videos over 10 years ago and had them on DVD's for my students, now that RUclips is available, I decided to put them out so anyone can see. The realistic applications of all these techniques are taught in person in the Dojo for students that dedicate time and energy to really want to learn self defense. I don't believe that you can really learn Martial Arts and self defense watching videos. You need to interact with all different kinds of people to train, spar and exchange ideas with. The internet is FREE, and if that's where people want to get their self defense skills, Then You Get What You Pay For!!!
what is the difference between American Kempo karate verses Tracy's Kempo karate? there is a Tracy's karate school near me
Kempo/Kenpo concepts in general are similar, but the techniques, the system, the teachings are very different. It's like getting a New York slice of pizza, a Chicago deep dish slice or a dominos slice. It's all pizza ( dough, sauce and cheese ) but completely different. My system is based off of the Shaolin Kempo style and Tracy is based off of the Ed Parker style. It all traces back to the the same beginning roots but as it branches down, changes very dramatically in what and how it is taught. I had looked at the Parker system and comparing it to the Shaolin system, My opinion is that the Parker system techniques are too long and that is why many people say that it is overkill. They don't understand that they are concepts an ideas and should not be taken literally. But some of the techniques are like mini katas. The Shaolin Kempo style has a few techniques that maybe long, but most are quick and straight to the point. They are also concepts and ideas that can be used in specific situations and positions in a real fight. Any training can be beneficial, if the instructor can explain the difference between what is taught in the dojo and what is used in the street. You learn techniques so you can move and adjust and be aware of what is around you and what targets are available and what weapons you have at your disposal. You don't fight from a technique, You fight from a position. Good Luck!!!
This move I do find only helpful after warming up, not the easiest approaching 50
50, you're still young, I'm 58, i made these videos about 10 years ago at 48. Keep training!!!
I just turned 46 and recently started my martial arts journey several months ago. I wish I would have started sooner.
My 13 year old neice just made her junior black belt, she's been paid by her dojo to train others, she'd started training at 3
Good for her, that's a great accomplishment. Hopefully she will continue to train for many, many more years.
@@kempokarate yes in the hapkido style, she must have a natural talent in it, to be paid to training others at 13, in such a large dojo
Garbage😂
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it!!!
My goodness.
Very much goodness
you should try that on Jon Jones
Jon Jones is the GOAT. If someone gets in his face and ends up on the ground, it's because they are probably unconscious.
what belt level is that
It’s taught at Green belt.
@@kempokarate Really nice. I wish I had a competent Kenpo karate school here ..we have one school but I'm afraid it's a mcdojo. They do have a two week trial class option for a couple dollars. I even had considered online karate training to supplement what I'm learning locally.
Good luck finding a school, It's not easy finding the right fit. If you cannot find a place, then grab a training partner or 2 and try what you are seeing online, test the techniques on each other and make the techniques work for you. Remember, every technique is an idea or a suggestion, you take what you can and discard the rest, but each person takes something different. Keep training!!!
@kempokarate thank you sensei. I'm considering going to try the one kenpo karate school here but I'm still considering online classes for karate.
Well....I mean, his hands weren't even around your neck.
So, you’re saying that the person should let someone start choking prior to escaping. If someone put their hands near my neck from behind, I would try to defend before I felt my neck being squeezed. Also, his hands made contact prior to the defense. If some throws a punch, do you allow them to hit you before you block or block while they are attempting to hit you. Just saying!!!
I want learn this especially after seeing the perfect weapon movie the other night
That's great. Find a good Dojo in your area and start the journey. Don't try to learn from watching RUclips videos. My videos are designed for my students as a reference. I teach the realistic applications in class. These videos are like connecting the dots to make a picture. You don't really learn how to defend your self unless you work in a class with different types of people. If you train in a similar system, then these videos would be helpful. Good Luck!!!
Is American kenpo or kempo the same
Not completely, the concept of the system is the same but there are many variations. Ed Parker probably had the most popular system with American Kenpo, but the system I teach is the Shaolin Kempo system. It all originates from the Kajukenbo system in Hawaii. If you look at the lineage on the family tree, it does not move in a straight line. It moves sideways multiple times. Most Kajukenbo practitioners studied additional styles and incorporated them into the foundation of Kajukenbo. This is why there are some many different variations of the Kenpo/Kempo systems. I believe the spelling is a translation thing, but there are definitely many differences in the techniques and katas. That's why comments by people who study one style of Kenpo/Kempo do not apply to others. Each Dojo, even within the same system can be different. Kenpo/Kempo is an evolving system and it is always changing. If taught correctly it is a true mixed martial art. I have added BJJ and Pekiti Tirsia to my system and I also break things down step by step like they do in Tai Chi. The Kempo instructor a couple of towns over teaches the same system differently, that's what is great about Kempo. You add you own flavor. Thanks for the question.
