Hi Emily, It's pre-mixed joint compound in the bucket, you can buy this at a hardware store. It's a fun project, good luck, let me know how it turns out!

If you dislike cling wrap, after spraying your surface with cooking oil, wrap it with newspaper strips, so that the paper mache sticks to the newspaper, making it easier to remove, and making the surface of your project smoother.

I saw your youtube video on this and I have it up on my computer. When I'm done with having covid again, I want to make the candle and buy the match striker stickers (new product to me!) and put something cute together! You are right in using soy instead of paraphin because parapin is toxic.

@@SavvyStyleDIY I agree! I'm trying to finish the projects that I already started before beginning new ones. Like this one! But this is mind-blowing...you made the base or container out of cement with a magical mold???? Is this as hard as it looks? How does an ordinary person like me make such a thing? How did you match the size to what would go into it?
@@saintinlower48 This is definitely something you could achieve. You can purchase the silicon mold on amazon, and use cement all (just add water according to instructions). Good Luck!

Hi there I love your video. Instead of using glue all the joint bonding powder or whatever it was that you recommended, could I use flour and salt with some water? I'm completely new to this and somebody told me you can use flour and water but I worry that it won't be as good as yours.😮 And once it's dry can I paint it and then put yacht varnish on it so that it becomes waterproof? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I've heard of using flour, however I have not used it myself for paper mache so I'm not sure how it will turn out. If you do give it a go, let me know how it goes.

It looks great! How many days total did it take to dry and if you put in oven how long and what temp?
Thank you! I actually didn't put it in the oven, our weather in Southern California in the summer, "feels like an oven" because it's over 100 degrees. It took at least 5 days to complete as I had to wait for each stage to dry.

Standing ovation! Well done! Superb results! 🏆 Working on an easier short cut in the shredding step. Thinking of my paper shredder? 😉 Or a thrift store blender. I have stacks of hand made papers and brown shipping papers that are rich in textures. Just can't take the plunge yet. But after seeing your masterpiece, I think I will! Your tenacity in the ripping is admirable.

Thank you for your kind words. Regarding your question, I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t see why this bowl wouldn’t last forever if kept indoors away from moisture.
Lol, I came to ask pretty much the same thing...if its sturdy enough to last or if its fragile or flimsy, would it break if dropped?

I love the bowl!! Does it get sealed with anything?
You could seal it however I did not. I like the matte look it has without a sealant.
Awesome!!! I have a huge paper shredder which I use to cut up my paper, then I replaced my old blender with a new one, so I use the old one with water to break the paper down into a fine pulp. It's quick and easy. * just sharing a tip :-)

@@SavvyStyleDIY I got one that goes over your own waste basket, so its small, easy to store AND the best part is I got at the little thrift shop I volunteer at! We actually get them ALL the time, usually even in the box still, lol! I dont know why, but it seems to be one of those items that many people think they need, buy one, then never use it, lol, so they donate them at the thrift shop ;) We get them often often that they are always priced super cheap! Def keep an eye out at thrift shops or yard sales, I often see them at yard sales too!

A wonderful design & result! You nailed it (pun intended!). Well done. I admire your confidence in tackling this large project on your own. And as for mis-measuring, well, my brother & I , many years ago were installing some moulding on my bedroom wall. We had to cut a double miter (A scarf joint, as I recall?) & got it wrong not once, but twice. My brother was actually very good at construction & visualizing angles; I am not (full disclosure: I suck). So we confidently cut it the 3rd time &, you guessed it, it was wrong. We just looked at each other, then collapsed laughing until we cried. Eventually it got done right. So you are not the only one by a long shot, who falls to the evils of the saw!
