The Cáirde Mol channel was set up in memory of Michael Leydon (Micheál O Liodain as gaeilge) abbreviated to MOL. His video footage and documentaries focussed mainly on local events in his native Dunmore in North Galway.

Some more video footage from the MOL Archives -this time Michael was on hand to document the setting up of the Sundial which is situated in the Square, Dunmore, Co Galway. It was a labour of love for local man Tommy Keaveney who dedicated his time and energy to the construction of the sundial over the preceding years.

It was one of the heaviest snowfalls in the Dunmore area since the year 1947. Local videographer the late Michael Leydon (MOL) was out and about to record the reactions of the hardy locals who braved the elements. Many of those people interviewed have since passed to their eternal reward. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.

The Ballad of Gerry Heraty was written by Eamonn Keane and was recorded a few months ago. It is now available on the recently launched CD “ Westport of the Welcomes” by Charlie Keating. Charlie’s CD is now available locally in Westport for €10 . All proceeds going to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

After the sudden passing of Tom Lally in 2020 we promised to give him the send off he so richly deserved but couldn’t do so at the time due to Covid-19 restrictions. While bidding a final farewell to Tom we also wish all the best to Mark Quinn,the new proprietor of Lally’s Bar. Thanks to the people of Garrafrauns for the massive support on the night.

The plane was repaired and returned to Ecuador to continue operating, it is now on display at the Ecuador Air Force Air Base Museum in Quito.

When I was a kid, my Dad Paddy Murphy from Church Street showed me the spot on Castle Street where the murder happened. I showed him this video today and he knew most of the people mentioned. He was so amazed to see this! Thank you for sharing this important story.
