Mario Kart 8 blinking red light resolved
This may not work for everybody but when my sons Mario Kart remote control car wouldn’t work due to the remote control and the kart not syncing and showing a blinking red light, I took it apart and was able to fix it. I see quite a lot of people with the same issue so hopefully this resolves the issue for at least some of you.

Thank you for making this video, put me on the path to repairing my sons broken car. In my case it was the battery connection, but I also straighten up the antenna 😊👍
Thank you so much!!
I just turned off the controller for a bit. Turned off the car. Restarted them both and it worked.
Which screws would you need to take off tho?
Yep. That was the issue! Because it was working fine yesterday and suddenly the controller wouldn’t sync! Now I just need some new batteries and I’m sure it’ll be good as new.
This helps me
Worked for me, thank you
Me doesn't work
I want to add there is another issue. The dor that holds the battery. the three metal plates on it to touch the + side of the battery are surrounded by a tight ring of plastic. If the battery does have a long enough pole then they will not make contact. If you slide the door around a bit while pressing down sometimes you can get it to "start" long enough for the controller to see it, but then it stops working. I extended the poles on my batteries with aluminum foil and got it to work. I thin k the solution ultimately is to shave the plastic down on the door.
If you want to save some time follow these instructions. Once you turn the remote on put the Mario or Luigi Kart into test me. I waited 30 seconds or so then changed it to the on position and it went to a solid light.
Hice lo mismo y nada, no conecta
Tengo el carrito pero no tengo él control cómo me alludas para regalarcelo a mi hijo de 5 años
Mine had rust in one of the battery contacts. After scrubbing it worked!
Thanks this work for me.
I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS IN YOUR VIDEO BUT THE RED LIGHT STILL FLASHES INTERMITTENTLY. please. What could be the cause of flashing light and how to solve it. Thank you
Bro! I tried this without taking the screws out and nothing happened. So I went ahead and took them out, pulled off the top and it instantly connected after off and on again! Thank you so much for sharing this! You literally saved me and my kids night, but me even more than my kids if that makes sense. 😂😂
It worked . Thank you soo much!
No luck😢
Thank you it worked 🙏
Worked a treat. Thank you.
This didn't work for me. And the hole doesn't actually line up. I had Batts that went in very hard and we're nearly impossible to remove. This friction caused the contacts to not meet, springs weren't strong enough. I filed it down so that they slid out easily, like in this video, and that fixed it
3 years later and its dead out of the box
Whoops
I just didn’t have batteries
Nope sorry
It didn’t help
You resolved the issue for us, thank you very much!
Ty
Gracias por tu vídeo 👌
Putting tinfoil on the contacts that don’t have springs on both the lid and inside of the battery compartment fixed it for me.
This didn't work on my son's unit. I will try the battery issue that someone else mentioned.
New batteries did It as the boy got the car wet the day before
Any way to connect this car to another 2.ghz remote
It didn't work
This didn’t work for us 😢
Duuuuudddddeeeee! You made a little kids day with this tutorial!
I bought this for my nephew and was about to return it because the forward and backward wasn't working. Decided to youtube the toy after seeing reviews about this being a common issue. And you just saved me a trip back to the store because I did what you suggested in the video and it fixed the problem. The car works perfectly now and my nephew loves it 😊
My forward and backwards is doing that AFTER doing this guys fix because it wasn't responding at all. Hmm.... wonder if there's something else going on because I have to push the controller hard as it goes on the forward backwards stick. I was also like, dang... this thing used to be 5 times faster than this.
We’ll done everyone
The battery terminals are messed up. Tighten the top screw on the battery cover as much as you can without breaking the plastic. Barely tighten the bottom 2 screws on the battery cover.
It worked! Tnx!
I did all of this and nothing worked so I tried taking the batteries out of the car whilst the remote was on and blinking red, as soon as I took the batteries out of the car the remote stopped blinking, I put the batteries back in the car and turned it on and it started working again. Weird.
And now it’s stopped working again, such a crappy design lol
I bought Mario RC racer yesterday and everything works perfectly. Today, it won't move forward and backward, just left and right, even if press forward/backward button on remote. Can anyone helps me? Thanks in advance
I disassembled the upper part of the toy, ond there was a broken wire. Put them together and now everything works fine. I found that the wires were not properly placed. Problem is when when the car is placed into gravity mode, because the wires are not places in correct position.
Intermittent battery disconnect from bad assembly and probably power on timing between remote and car are the problems that I see on my son's unit. That black wire is not an IR sensor, it's an RF receiver antenna. I'm not entirely sure that the reason for the pairing problem in my case is the collapsed antenna. If it was a reception issue, it would have paired when the remote controller was right next to it. Besides, the holes you pointed to are not even directly above the antenna and there's no guarantee that the antenna will remain there during assembly. I think it's a timing issue. You must turn them on at about the same time. You'll also notice that the remote LED stays on even after you turn off the car. This is because it already established a 2 way link with the car even when the car is not communicating. I'm not an RF telecom specialist and I don't have an explanation for the whole stuff, this is only my observation.
Worked for me
👍👍
You don’t need to take case off. Just turn kart so it’s vertical. Fixed for me! Thank you for the hint!
Mine had a tiny piece of errant plastic that lodges between the battery contacts when I put new batteries in so check that too
It didn't work.
Not an IR sensor it’s a 2.4ghz antenna.
Opened mine up tried it didn't work. Noticed I have one less wire connection though then you do. Wish I could get it to work
