Craco - The Ghost Town
In Basilicata (in the south of Italy), on a hill located in the province of Matera, you can visit a very interesting ghost town: old Craco. A charming place that was used as set for many movies also international such as The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson in 2004. Its particular name comes from the Latin Graculum, that is small plowed field. The exact period of its establishment is unknown, but there were found tombs that date back to VIII century BC. Very probably also the Greek colonists of Metaponto settled there, perhaps to escape a plague that went out into the plain. So very sad. I had to show my mentally challenged sister this to stop her from wasting food. Such a shame that there is so much food wasted these day. No one should go without food,shelter or health care. So much money wasted on so many different things. Especially the trillions wasted to go into outer space. I will never understand. Just plain heart wrenching. Enjoy your meals and be thankful. This brings tears to my eyes.
