im a foreigner trying to learn japanese. the title says very litterally: "nanchiyatsute". but its prounounched as nanchatte. is there any reason to this that i should know?
In Japan, there is "komoji" (lower case). つ←This is "ohmoji" (uppercase) っ←This is "komoji". A Japanese symbol in the form of a small hiragana or katakana “tsu” is called Sokuon. Sokuon is usually represented by the doubling of the consonant. For example, “Pocky”, a Japanese snack, is written in kana as ポッキー, which is ポ po, ッ(the small tsu - sokuon), キ ki- (prolonged sound), and in romaji, a system of romanized spelling used to transliterate Japanese, it is written “pokki”, with the sokuon represented by the doubled k consonant. The pronunciation of the small tsu depends on how it’s used, but if it’s “Meccha”, which means “very”, you can pronounce it with a slight pause in place of the small tsu, followed by a stronger pronunciation of the kana after it. Same for nanchatte.
