Here is my updated wash and go routine after trying the Three Step Method for the past 2 years. I will go over how I achieve a wash & go style on my type 4 natural hair using only three products! I used Pattern's Cleansing Shampoo and tgin Rose Water Hair Mask to wash and condition my hair. I used Camille Rose Curl Maker as my only gel.
Let me know if you have any questions as a type 4 girl trying to learn how to do a wash and go or the three step method!

Interesting take. Let's go back to business basics - - you create a company today and carry as far as you can and if it is popular, you are probably going to sell it if you can not scale it any further. I will applaud you on your research abilities - they are killer! Second core business point, I don't know if these purchasing companies are changing ingredients to specifically harm users or if they are simply taking more expensive ingredients and substituting for cheaper ingredients which may have (1) longer shelf life, (2) more stable compounding in the development of the final products, and (3) access to components of products. while it is possible to fall into the perception that caucasian owned companies do it wrong, it may be More that they want the product to last during shipping, setting on shelves and then setting in your home. When you are a smaller company, these decisions may not elevate to consideration but when you scale, these are challenges that must be dealt with.

Also, Melanin Hair care cream pairs very very well with Eco olive oil styling gel. I like more definition than MC gives so i’ll add in the eco gel and it should come out perfect.

Been looking for this exact review/comparison of both these products! Finally! Thank you. I’m using the TGIN line currently and LOVE the honey mask and buttercream. I ordered Melanin elongating cream and leave in conditioner to check them out. So this review comparing them was right on time. I think I’m going to use the MC line in my teenager. She doesn’t like heavy stuff. My toddler and I both need thicker heavier products. Thank you for this clip 👍🏽💯

A hair masque should only be compared w/another hair masque because of the content and the purpose. When you use a hair masque with conditioner and leave-in co you are doing a more in depth process. I don't think this was an equal comparison. I have been natural for over 10 yrs. Through the yrs I have made my own conditioner and masque and there is definitely a big difference. This is why I am sharing this. Nevertheless, thank you for sharing your experience with TGIN products. I just might try them for myself.

So far Big Poppa hasn’t worked for my wash and goes but I live in a dry climate and I have gray hair, medium density, low to medium porosity so Curly Magic adds more moisture to my hair. I workout 4 days a week, sweat a lot and wash my hair 2 times a week.

I’ve tried both. Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic is my regular gel that my hair stylist uses. I’ve only used Big Poppa in 2 back to back washes so I need to give it another try but my hair was very dry on day 2 with the Big Poppa which it’s not with Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic.

I appreciate it that you are able to voice your opinion. I am wary about products because I am allergic to so many ingrediets, even shea butter. Also, most girls spend way too much time on their hair. I do not have time to spend all day on my hair. I use a shampoo my determatolist recommended, a conditioner, and a masque suggested by my dermatologist to help with the drying of the shampoo. I do not use really expensive products either. I have learned though from the RUclips girls to take better care of my ends and be very gentle on my hair. Because of these two things my hair is below bra strap length within the several months I have been doing this. It is sad so many Black women are going back to perms because I feel so much better since I stopped using that chemical. Keep it up Nappy Valley and maybe people will start listening on a major level.

The BlackGirlCurls/BlackCurlMagic has the exact same issues as the Curly Girl Method. Althought the Curly Girl Method was started by a white woman mainly for curly hair types (but she did also market it to anyone who didn't have straight hair so wavy and coily types). I don't think most naturals (black people with type 4 hair) followed that as religiously. Like at first, years ago, they did but then I think a lot divested from it. Now there's this new method that is just as toxic and annoying. They make rules based on what they believe to be true via anecdotal evidence. CGM was created by a singular stylist based on anecdotal evidence and a few picking and choosing of science. This new method is exactly the same. They used anecdotal evidence and picking and choosing science and also misunderstanding science. Also at 5:18 you said you don't think leave-ins were a thing until high school (idk what time that is but I'm most likely older than you). I will assume that you just never ventured into that territory of the haircare aisle. Leave-ins were a thing in "non-ethnic" (as they liked to call us for some reason) haircare since long before the natural hair movement (and therefore before the curly hair movement). The curly girl method is a sulfate free method. There are tons of non-sulfate anionic surfactants that cleanse the hair quite well and can most certainly get rid of silicones and other similar ingredients. However, if the shampoo, regardless if it has sulfates or not, is loaded with a lot of ingredients that don't wash off, it won't clarify. I think a lot of people became afraid in general to use any type of cleanser because of their fear of dryness so co-washing became incredibly popular despite sulfate free shampoos on the market. Sarah Ingle made a great video about marketing. The video is called "Is Your Shampoo a Scam? | SCIENCE vs MARKETING." You might find it interesting since you were talking about marketing in this video. I do agree that a lot of people generally do what is popular and follow what other people say you should do blindly. Hence why everyone is now saying, no oils, no, butters, no leave ins, no deep conditioning (which is basically just conditioning but I digress), etc. - very black and white thinking. Everyone is shouting the same thing and not taking anything else into consideration and also not realizing that just because something is more "efficient" doesn't mean the alternative is bad. I've never followed any method for my hair, but I did learn by watching and researching and expirmenting since I wasn't taught by my parents. My mom was literally so upset I went natural. I've never had a phase of not using shampoo, but I did "co-wash." I didn't use the conditioner on my scalp and I only "co-washed" mid week because I did cardio 6 days a week and I felt like I should at least rinse my scalp during the week. I think for the most part we're on the same page, my only argument here is just that this new phase is literally CGM 2.0 except only for kinky/coily types. I think a lot of curly non-afro-textured hair girlies still do CGM but then there are people like Manes by Mell (another youtuber) who does not agree with CGM and teaches how to care for and style curly hair. She's also very science based! Which I love. Sarah Ingle is too, but she got very ill and hasn't been producing content in over a year.

I have a love hate with Uncle funkys I pretty much just started substituting it as my leave in and then putting a stronger gel (like aunt Jackie’s) on top. I get a soft but firm hold but sometimes I still add too much uncle funky and it comes out too soft and doesn’t last more than 2 days. But then sometimes it comes out amazing. I tried it with Design essentials cream gel a few times and had a few good wash and goes over the summer too. But yeah it’s def not a 1 and done for me with uncle funkys. I might need to try out the big poppa or mix them and see what’s upz

This was a great video! For me, I appreciate the effort and the beauty of natural hair and the styling of natural hair. To me the addiction to wigs that I have seen is over the top. We are steadily putting money into other folks pockets. And weaves are still here. And lastly the overdependence on braid hair. I would like to see us step into wearing our natural hair out sometimes.

I just got my first real “cooperate” job too. And I’m the only black girl. I’ve been wearing my natural hair in a bun or a clip because I’m under the impression it’s not professional to wear it down. Not because anyone personally told me it was but because of what I seen on social media. I seen a lot of hair natural hair is discriminated against in the workplace from article abIG post and I know there’s a crown act to fight it. Now I’m over worried about what to do with my hair bc I’m under the impression that every workplace has this discrimination problem. Anyway after watching your video I feel less worried about going into work with my hair down. We have the same texture hair and I love it. I personally don’t wear my hair natural to be part of a movement I wear it natural because it looks better, more affordable the weave, and easier to manage for me. Thanks for this video I literally needed it.

Thank you! Honesty the issue just boils down to washing your hair. If you have buildup wash. If your hair is dry, use whatever you already know works. Sulfates cleans heavy product and prevent build-up. And then replenish with silicone and oils and butters. Science works. Natural hair gurus just follow trends.
