    Hi! Nice to meet you. I am running pro tools ultimate (atmos mixing etc) in a Mac pro 5.1 with opencore. I have been using for over more than 10 years and i am considering to buy a Mac studio max to run pro tools , plugins and 6tB of kontakt libraries. With Some piano libraries i get clicks and pops and cpu overload and i have to increase buffer size to 1024 to run more than 16 kontakt instances in pro tools or kontakt standalone. Do you think i will notice the change? I usually work in music production and audio production into pro tools and vep. Thank you so much for your post and help!

    Thanks for the heads up! This is a great way to control energy and create suspenseful modulation between sections. I imagine there are countless ways to build off of this: Introducing M/S or wet reverb/delay, using different instruments, etc. 🙏💪🍻

      Oh yeah, This is the most straightforward and obvious way to demo this idea. You can use different instruments or even different tones from the same instrument to get some sonic variety. Either processing the doubled track or even “throwing” the original periodically can give similar results!

    This is simply amazing. As a guitar player myself i can say it takes an isight to write a song on its own, but to invent a series of notes, record and produce them in a way that the only thing the listener can feel is a melancholy harmony taking over, now that is what i call not only great content, but my time well spent. Thankyou for directing me to this video. I went with the Mac mini M1 as soon as it became available, I bought it with a 2 TB SSD and Logic Pro pre-installed, has Mac's 3D sound card. I find it very fast and efficient, a bare bones system in which I use my LG 3D 48" TV, a PC wireless keyboard which works very well, has a scroll pad built in. I have a 24 channel mixer connected to the Mac via a Berhinger Zenyx 302 USB interface connected to my Yamaha 5.1 surround amp. I am using a Polk Audio speaker system which consists of 2 satellite 3 way speakers and a massive sub woofer, the centre speaker is a Pioneer designed as a centre speaker and 2 2-way Polk speakers for the rear channels. I've had this hobby for about 2 decades now, tons of software, now I have the JoueyPlay MPE keyboard system, works very well with the Novation miniNova. I also have Novation Circuit, Modal Skulpt, MOOG Theremini, Korg Volca Sample 2 and an older Casio CTK 601. For keyboards, I have the Arturia Keylab 88 Essential, Arturia Beatstep Pro and Arturia Keystep. I also have the Vhffoso portable drum kit. I have 2 guitars, the BC Rich Warbeast, an Ibanez Acoustic-electric, an electrified East Indian sitar, an Italia Modena electric sitar and a Radel digi-100 Plus Tabla machine. I usually spend about 6 hours daily just playing around with all the gear, great hobby. I am a retired Industrial electrician with an IT diploma in CIS (Computer Information Systems). I did take piano lessons while in high school, mostly I am self taught. My favourite instrument is the Novation miniNova, it's 3 oscillators are high quality and respond well to MPE which I am just getting into. Arturia Analog software is what I use most, as well as their FX bundle and preset bundles. I am very fond of UVI's WorldTour Suite2, especially the India and Australia programs. Cherry Audio synths, Imaginando's FRMS and Melda Productions software. Learning as I go.

    In reddit there is also a debate whether 50% Mix knob is the same as a return bus with the saturn plugin on, I'm wondering too. I guess 50% is the same

    • @ArthurFoxMusic
      @ArthurFoxMusic Месяц назад

      It'll give you the same result IF you only have the saturation plugin in the signal chain (assuming you're adjusting levels to match the output level of the single-channel-50%-mix-track versus the clean-track-plus-aux-return-track. I pretty much always set up a separate parallel channel because it gives me independent control over the wet channel, including its own fader and the ability to add additional processing if need be. • @ArthurFoxMusic
      @ArthurFoxMusic Месяц назад

      Practice makes perfect! Beware of latency caused by the demands of linear phase processing, which may inadvertently cause timing (and therefore "phase") shift if your DAW can't keep up with latency compensation. It's also worth investigating your audio tracks (including bouncing any MIDI tracks down to audio first) and how their signals interact with one another in terms of phase, especially with transient information. And, of course, if you're being really aggressive with linear phase EQ, watch out for pre-ringing (though, in practice, I've rarely found this to be a major issue). Hope this helps! Cheers

    Ty for the time and effort in making these videos/ i just like to say that this video is very good but could be a bit better. there is no explanation of the relative levels concept.

    • @ArthurFoxMusic
      @ArthurFoxMusic Месяц назад

      Thank you and noted! In terms of relative levels, if I'm understanding your point correctly, I mean that the mix may benefit from having the "most important" element of the mix at any given point be as loud in the balance as the "most important" element at any other given point in the mix (in this case, the vocal and the guitar solo). Now, there are other parts, like the intro, where I wouldn't try to mix the "lead" (only) element as loud as the bigger parts of the song. It was kind of a throwaway line that was specifically aimed at the section of the guitar solo going into the final chorus, which is likely why I didn't expand on it. Hope that helps!

    I just bought a Mac Studio about a month ago for doing music with same config. I wish I have opted of the 4TB storage, but the 2TB will be fine. I did consider a M3 Mac and have looked the spec's for the M4 and I think for doing audio the M1 Max of M2 Max is good choice. With you talked about the Apple monitor I think you were mixing up the Apple XDR display that is very expensive and you have pay more for the stand. I am using the Apple Studio display with my Mac Studio and it's a little pricy compared to the usual 4K monitors on the market, but the Studio Display is 5K and that extra resolution really helps with DAWs that have lots of little things on the screen. Part of what got me to think about the Mac Studio is those USB-C ports on the front, it makes so handy for plugging in a MIDI keyboard or MIDI pads I just use a USB-A to USB-C adapter and so far the things I've plugged in using the adapter all work fine. I'm really happy with my decision. I had a Mac Pro "Cheese Grater" in the past I loved and I view the Mac Studio the 2024 version.

      I have yet to run into major performance issues with Logic Pro X SO LONG AS I keep data on external SSDs. I've found that as the internal drive fills up, performance starts to go downhill (especially at 70%+ full). The studio I work at (post production house called VillageWorks Content) uses a Mac Studio running Pro Tools for running sessions, and most issues there are Pro Tools centred.

    • @ArthurFoxMusic
      @ArthurFoxMusic Месяц назад

      Great question - I actually never really noticed that I saturate after EQ and compression, though the EQ/compression usually happen first in my signal chains by default. One thing to note is that, as a harmonic processor, saturation will shape the waveform and create additional harmonic information based on that waveform's frequency content. Therefore, if I EQ out the undesirable frequencies and noise BEFORE saturation, the saturation won't "act upon" and create addition harmonic content that is as related to those undesirable frequencies. EQing after saturation will adjust the frequency balance of the saturation signal, added harmonic content and all. Hope that helps paint a better picture for you! It's all context dependent, and I'll sometimes change up the order of processes depending on what's needed. Cheers!

    Do you ever play live? If so, what steps do you take to avoid the Mac's annoying failure to recognize the MIDI note off message, resulting in notes being held. I play live a lot, I design my projects as a one man band, a mixture of software and hardware, so I can bring up the project later and just play them with my Arturia Keylab 88, the Mac not recognizing the note off message is repetitive, especially using external hardware. I am now getting into MPE with the Joue Play, these problems exist with this keyboard as well, sometimes notes will play when I am not playing, also annoying. Not perfect, a long ways from it. This is the year 2024, is it not? Yet these problems persist. Any ideas why or how to avoid them, maybe switching to a PC??? Trying other DAWs doesn't work, this is a Mac problem, not a DAW problem.

      I've never used Logic Pro in a live situation, though I've had some success with Ableton Live. I'm very much a studio-centric producer, and am not so much interested in bringing the digital audio workstation to the live environment (though playing guitar on stage is super fun). There are so many things that can go wrong with sending digital information, and unless we experience those issues ourselves, any advice is often speculation at best. Sorry for the late reply. @@ArthurFoxMusic No, I have not. The problem is not specific to Logic Pro as Ableton Live behaves in the same manner, notes hold occasionally, this is an ongoing problem with Macs, can't understand why they can't fix it. Like you, I am a studio person. I create projects in Logic to design a specific sound using multiple presets and effects, like a one man band. works great if I don't use any external instruments. I would think that Mac would work in conjunction with professional musicians to test out their product and point out these types of problems. Previously I was using Garage Band on a 32 bit MacBook, didn't have this problem. Most of the software I have would not run on a 32 bit platform so I am stuck with using this M1 Mac Mini. At least it has awesome processing ability, I can pile on the effects and it runs fine, can't do that on Ableton Live. Keep on rockin'!
