Hiking around Chicken Corners, Moab, UT in full motorcycle gear

Not for the faint of heart, but the views are well worth it. After a brisk run across Hurrah Pass on the KTM 690 Enduro R, we stopped for a photo op at Chicken Corners. I couldn't resist taking the GoPro along to document the precarious hike around and back Chicken Corners.

    I can't decide between a KLR650 and a KLX300 for the TAT. I'm 6'4" 220#. Any advice greatly appreciated.

      So sorry to be replying so late. I just now received notification of your comment. Realistically, given your height and weight, you’d be better off with a used KTM 690, outfitted with a rear rack that is also supported from the frame/rear foot peg mount. These bikes are too tall for most riders, but would be perfect for you. I have one now( although at only 5’11” ) I had to lower the suspension to be able to comfortably dab when necessary. You’d also be well served by an XR650 as well. Your height will allow you to easily handle these. A stock KLR will be way too softly suspended for you. I spent over $1,500 to upgrade my KLR, with Cogent suspension front and rear, 320mm front brake disk and twin piston Katana calipers, etc. Given bike prices these days, I’d recommend the KTM690 with the mods mentioned, plus a 1 gallon rotopack fuel tank on the rear rack.

    Why did you dump water on your rear brake?

    • @dualsportadventures812
      @dualsportadventures812 3 года назад

      Great question. The brake had overheated from the long descent, basically causing the brake fluid to boil in the caliper. Boiling fluid creates bubbles, which are compressed when you try to apply the brakes, thus causing a total loss of rear braking. The water cooled the caliper and rotor, stopping the boiling and restoring rear braking.

    What a great place to ride. Did the Suzuki run okay at that elevation or is it already jetted for it? Awesome trail for sure.

      Yes, I think my buddy had to raise the idle speed a bit to get it to start when we first arrived in Fairplay, CO, but after that it ran fine.

      Make sure and check the weather forecast before planning a trip out there, as there is a very narrow window when it is passable.

      The cheapest GoPro they make. Not sure of the model, but it's the entry level one that doesn't detach from the case. Only paid around $100 for it several years ago at BestBuy near Christmas. I've ben very pleased, especially compared to other options.

      Posted a few from our 2018 ride now. Been so busy at work I haven't had time. Man, what a great time we had though. Condo was primo!!! Thanks for suggesting it. I've been working on selling the KLR, and posting a few videos from our trip in 2016 and our Silverton trip last year with Chuck to whet the appetite of prospective buyers. It's sold now. Going to Texas to make someone very happy for years to come.

      Last week of July 2017. Check out some of the other videos I've just now posted from that trip. I'm selling my trusty KLR and wanted to post some videos of it in action. Too late now, as it's been sold and on it's way to a new home in Texas. Hopefully it will provide many more memories for its new owner.

      Thanks! You may want to check out some of my other videos from this trip, plus our trip to Moab in 2016. We went to Moab again this past year in 2018, but I had my new steed, a 2018 KTM690 Enduro on that trip. Awesome trips no matter what the ride!!
