370z vs Civic Type R at Mosport DDT
A good battle with a Civic Type R.
Lap times were fairly consistent with my personal Civic Type R from 2 years ago, as both were pretty much stock vehicles with R-compounds.
The 370z was surprisingly capable at the track in stock form.

3rd time at the Ring, started with Swift Sport, Ford Focus ST, then finally the BMW 328i from Ringfreaks. The car was track prepped and performed admirably. It had great suspension, brakes and had a roll cage, bucket seats, along with a 6pt harness. The tires were Pirelli street tires and definitely lacked the grip of the elite streets and R-compounds. The Ringfreaks BMW 328i provided an amazin...

Bunch of us with Gilman Auto went out for a quick fun day at Toronto Motorsports Park... It was the first time I have been to a track hosted with NO MARSHALLS or FLAGGERS. You essentially pit out whenever you want, however you want. There was also no driver's meeting. That said, everyone was generally very well behaved and played by the rules.
What not to do at a track day...Toronto Motorsports Park Edition

I'll start by saying this was a track day with no driver's meeting. More importantly, this was a track day with no flagger or starter at all! But at then end of the day, if the car behind is giving you pressure, slow down and signal towards the direction you want the car to overtake. There's no need to dive to the side mid turn and slam on the brakes... This is how accidents happen...

You know it's about to happen when the car in front of you start missing consecutive turns... Sometimes it's easier to just point the faster car by, even if it's just a "Civic" :)

And who said FWD can't drift? Part of what makes the Type R special is it's ability to rotate, made more apparent with R-compounds that are down to the cords, grippy like hockey pucks. Having said that, Nankang AR-1 survived 2 years of 10 full day track abuse and is still going!

Shannonville Oil Spill Crash 21/09/25

A big oil spill mid day as a result of a oil filter sandwich that loosened from a red Type R. An hour wasted to clean-up. Please don't drive on the track if you suspect you are spilling fluids... No car to car crash as a result, but a few cars ran off onto grass and sustained cosmetic damage.

Well... Maybe not... But as you can see, the Type R platform is very neutral and will kick the rear out rather easily. Trail braking in this car can manipulate it to understeer less. Honda truly setup a FWD car that does not drive like a FWD car.

You drive fast, good job!
Is it auto or manual?
@@4dshow my 370z is manual
This question is so irrelevant. He literally put LSD clutch. Some people don’t read
@@watchtheisolation8514as oh i read it, but you clearly don’t know much about car mechanicals by that comment.
@@4dshow tell it to your comment 😂 irrelevant
thass crazy
There is no contest between the Z and the GT4 ever. This is just driver's difference
You'd be surprised. My 230hp 350z is 1 second slower than a professionally driven GT4 (manual) on my local GP circuit.
@@Desert_Spec That must be a track with 10 seconds per lap time I assume...
Sheep in wolf's clothing
That race shouldn't even be close, no disrespect to the 370Z. The driver of the Cayman needs a driver mod, driver of the Z is just a better driver, the GT4 is the better track car but needs a better driver.
Hey bud, whats your wheel & tyre combo? Alignment? Cheers

Thank you for the response 😊 I can't believe your z34 can keep up with these cars with minimal mods. How was oil temps?
just curious if he knew what a brake pedal was
Don’t dive bomb people on track day bro it’s not cscs
Seems like you short shift very early
If you watched the other videos you'll see the car over heats easily, compounded by redline shifts. I'm not doing time attack don't need to wring it out every gear
@zippyicy what times do u get?
Whats your setup? Lap times?
Never did a clean run not sure on times. The car is stock with AR-1 and tune
Where’s the crash?
Cool, nice to see a comparison, I'm thinking 2015 cayman S
Its not a race so you cant pass on turns. Only on the 4 straights. So that guy has a terrible line but you got to be patient and just ride it out. Otherwise, the accident would have been your fault.
My thoughts exactly
jeeeeeeesus thats no-bueno. I've been dive-bombed into the 2 turns before the main straight. thought it was about the dumbest thing to happen on track. guess i was wrong.
Happens to the best of us, but I had something similar happen with an older 325i where they thought they could out-corner me and almost did a 360 3 times before letting us by in the next passing zone. Everyone wants to get home safe, don’t be the hero at your local lapping day!
easy easy 😉
ah what a goof ball haha
Good show bro! Over priced cars do not make up for driving skill.
how someone manages to spin with an m2 blows my mind
Short wheelbase & over 300hp. It's a very snappy car for the uninitiated.
@@SendiesExactly.. this idiot has obviously never driven an M2. Very tail happy cars
If you over drive car enough they all can oversteer or understeer
I'm surprised they let you out on track like that! Unless it was a dedicated drift event lol
Small tracks like that no one cares... This event was actually run without any marshals....
Looks fun! Only time I’ve been so sideways was because I screwed up and tried to make the tires do too much at once. It’s half way through my first vid if you wanna take a look.
Jesus christ what tire setup are you on that's terrible
promosm 🤘
i was thinking about a type-r but now I'm seeing you say it could only do 3 laps before overheating that would drive me crazy lol
Fastest 3 laps for the money, punching 2-3x it's weight
@@zippyicy for sure it seems like that. wonder what the spoon civic that did the 25hrs of thunderhill did to keep cool
@@sohcsarewicked my buddy pulled the AC, which got rid of the condenser blocking the radiator. Night and day difference but who wants to lose AC
As a learning tool, my K20C2 6MT (2.0L NA engine) is perfect. On track days, everything else will melt, but the engine will keep the power coming.
I also track mine but still new to it - when the rear kicks out like that I've always been told for fwd we straighten the wheel and then gas it. I saw you corrected the oversteer via countersteer - any tips on what to do? I tend to trail brake a ton, but it has not yet kicked out the rear on me yet
There's no single rule to recover, you will learn with experience. When it snaps that fast and you don't counter steer and just rely on throttle, I would say most of the time you would spin out. Your hand speed is what determines how often you spin out, counter steering is very important no matter the drivetrain. When the slip angle is low,I have done throttle mash to pull it through, but not when it snap oversteers like that. Trail braking is fun, depending on your car/setup you may never get oversteer
This is why I avoid TMP. Total shitshow most of the times and people don't know the passing rules and there should be run groups.
Great driving skills 👌👏
Great driving. How many laps can u do at mosport on a hot day before FK8 overheating?
Unfortunately about 3.
@@zippyicy wow, I'm considering getting one but I didn't realize they overheat that fast. Is there any fix that works?
@@gilz.8612 The only fix I know of that made a significant impact was AC delete
@@zippyicy ok thanks for the reply, maybe I'm better off waiting for the 2023 and see if anything changes.
@@gilz.8612 doubt it. Not a lot of changes other than vented hood. Those can help delay it, not eliminate it. The turbo is at the front right behind the radiator
I understand your frustration.I like your driving.
I feel your pain 😬 its the biggest problem at track days
St 170 only???
Yo which phone mount are you using?
Blocking cars? Team orders i guess :)

Great video, great comments and fun watching the GT2RS. I find the best track days (and drivers) at Mosport are with BMW Club and DriveTeq.
Good work, get some dead cat for the mic,( wind noise) engine sounds must of sounded good
Thanks, I didn't have a sports camera or anything, that's just the dash cam I have for everyday driving.
@@zippyicy lol ok then good work for dash cam, footage was clean.
S2000 driver. Still amateur
So was he just simply still coming in to fast for those downhill turns? It really seemed to have a lack of back end grip, or was he just not back on the throttle fast enough when he braked and turned? Either way, the saves were great, a mix of luck and skill in making sure he didn't hit the wall.
I do Own an ap1, b14 bilstein coilovers and Bridgestone so2 tyres...i ve lost twice Time control, one was really stupid , under wet pushing at 160 kmh spines the car( only body work damage, no mechanic damage or chassis damages)...the second also on wet road at 30kmh, throttle after a tight curve....I ve lost my confidence in me while driving and in the car....almost ready to sell it....77.000 km, German model , I live in France ...:( so sad for that fu....car....wonderful car
that s2k is hella weak and slow..
how do you know the rsx has a k24 and not a k20?
Im confused he seems to be pulling on you ? Never herd this term befor.tracks are to risky with no insurance for track racing .so im just use to asshole road rules. Is it a brake tap to open for a pass ?
Hmmmm.
Great review of the car ..

this car doesnt have at turbo its a 2liter NA with 170hp.
With turbo and better exhaust + bremo braks it will be like Focus RS 215PS. My St have change mapping and it goes 192PS with stock air filter :)
or you can add superchager
Can u tell me how u tuning ur ST170 without modified anything? Only chip? mapping?
definitely masks a lot of driver induced errors (high slip angle in the wet, massive steering inputs, balky gear changes and general upsetting of the balance of the car). really useful video though, thank you much!
TCS flickering all the time...try to turn it off next time..maybe you will be faster or dead.
TCS button just located under the handbrake.
But in the video, this car was modified something. So maybe the owner doesn't want to anyone turn off it.
