@@HGLFWthe damn thing ended up costing me $1100 to ship to a ecu place that “rebuilt” or “ref lashes” I tried taking it to dealer and they attempted to reflash BACk to stop for $575, but they couldn’t communicate with car. Meaning bricked. The shitty mechanic I had do it for me was extremly imcompetent. I should have done it myself. It’s like $600 to get it reflashed/rebuilt but he charged me $500 labor to unscrew a few bolts and take out the cas module and ecu. Than when he got it back, he knew nothing about coding or inpa software was just a parts changer young kid at some dead end shop that prized them self on being knowledgeable and working on exotics but of course the crap shoot is now closed down, which is good. This was before I was well rounded on n54 e90s. When I got it back from him after he got the new rebuilt ecu in it started but I’m pretty sure my Jbe was bad or needed recoded cause I had some other finicky stuff happen like my windshield wipers would catch, passanger heated seat wouldn’t stay on, and my cluster sometimes would go to 0 mph back to the mph I am traveling at. All a joke, only let someone that knows what they’re doing in electrical / ecu / modules work on you’re car if you reach out for help. Otherwise it’ll end up costing you a ton more and they claim no liability. Losers. Hope you get it fixed. Post update

This all started from my vehicle “dying” from uninstalling Cobb software like 6 years ago when I had a bad misfire I wanted to reduce the boost and ware on components when it was running rough and I was in my work parking lot on lunch and wasn’t hooked up to a battery charger at the time. Never do a flash without having 5-7 amp battery charger hooked up

It will all be plug and play when you get the cas unlocked and the ecu reflashed/rebuilt. You may have other issues with differnt modules though from when it got bricked. Like I did. Jbe, Frm, etc. I would NOT let anyone touch it bmw mechanic or not unless they have a general understanding of INSTA/INPA bmw software which they are few and far between. Bimmerbrains if I remember right is very good at what he does and very knowledgeable.

Un plug the battery then wait a min then flash it back to stock

Thank you, I’ll look into this. Water pump was done at 105k now has 160k id they disturbed o-ring don’t you think it would have happened way sooner? Either way worth a look!

Thank you for the reply. A little back history of the vehicle. It’s an 2004 EXL. I’m the 2nd owner, I purchased it from a senior couple at 130k unfortunately they did all dealer maintenance but fortunately they never missed a scheduled maintenance appt or repair. Water pump I see from record was done at 105k not sure about pulleys, I’ll have call down and see if theirs been any service regarding any pulleys or anything with steering. 160k miles on it now, new plugs, new coils, all new fluids and basic tune up. This sound started happening about 1,000 miles ago. You mentioning the power steering rings a bell because when you turn the steering wheel left or right at idle you can hear the whine of the power steering a lot more pronounced than it should sound under normal operation. The sound In the video is worse under cold starts after sitting over night than after warm up tends to die down slightly but it’s always there.

What did u do to fix it then?

Ecu replace and cas rewrite. What issue are you having exactly

You’re most likely fine. Charge it back up on a charger to full. Than keep it on the charger (10 amp or better) while you do the reflash. Make sure kit doesn’t die again. My cars finicky this my 2nd ecu idk what’s going on with it. But it’s getting replaced now.
