You going to use the corn for feed or selling it off?
Little bit of both
Nice if you do it make a video of how you are doing the feed. I am up in the Northeast and plan on doing the same. Trying to bring back wheat farming up here.
I had a 3300 with a 3 row head. Same hopper I filled it till it mounded up the top.
I would’ve loved to fill it but either the clutch or belt is slipping and with the added weight it gets worse and hardly wants to go up the hills
You will need to have some hungry cats to keep the rodents out of the corn
A local mechanic had a 3300 in the shop and said was a joke, the little devil is doing a good job!
There could be a rusty connection on the alternator?
Definitely a possibility

Thank you!
All that corn you harvested what's what's it for are you taking it to market or is this to feed animals?
So much more than just sticking a seed in the ground like "some people" think. Pretty good job all things considered! Timing is important on everything and tough to do with a 9-5. I'll bet you got more bushels than you think. Can't fix it until you know what's not working! Keep at it, you'll get better!!
Thank you!
Keep those videos coming, hard to beieve that at one time the 3300 was a beast of a combine.
That’s a good point!
Nice... typically on your initial combine settings, you want to stick to the widest open settings recommended for the chaffer/sieve... this allows grain to pass through the chaffer and sieve as quickly as possible and minimize losses out the back off the chaffer or returns to the cylinder for rethreshing off the sieve... it's better to run as much fan speed or cleaning air as you possibly can with the chaffer and sieve open as much as you can, without getting excess trash with the grain in the tank. Start at the high end of fan speed along with the widest recommended openings on the chaffer and sieve, and reduce fan speed if you see kernels being blown out the back til losses are minimized to acceptable levels, and/or close the chaffer or sieve til trash in the tank is at acceptable levels. Similarly on the cylinder and concave it's best to start with the widest concave setting recommended and "work your way down" if you see kernels still stuck to the cobs-- the widest recommended setting will require the least power and give the most capacity; close the concave clearance down until you don't see unthreshed kernels stuck to the cobs. Excessively narrow concave settings will break up the cobs more and can crack kernels from overthreshing. Starting with the fastest cylinder speed recommended and working down from there, until you don't see cracked or scuffed kernels will give the most capacity and throughput to the machine with the least power demands... Every setting on a combine effects other settings downstream, so if you have to adjust cylinder or concave settings you should recheck the chaffer/sieve and cleaning shoe air settings. Chaffer settings will affect the sieve setting since the grain passes throgh the chaffer to the sieve. Changing the sieve setting will have no effect on the chaffer since the grain passes through the chaffer first. Every setting on a combine tends to either increase capacity or decrease it. For instance, faster cylinder speeds allow more material to be threshed in a given amount of time than a slower setting, and a more open concave setting will allow more material to pass through than a narrower setting. The limitations of course are that we must perform a good threshing job, so slowing the cylinder speed down to minimize cracked or broken kernels or grain scuffing is necessary to do a better job, while still threshing all the kernels off the cob, head, or pods. Similarly narrowing the concave clearance is required until we get complete threshing of the grain from the cob, head, or pod, without excess cracking or splitting of grain or breaking up of cobs, straw, stalks, pods, etc needlessly, which takes excess power and reduces throughput of the machine. In a likesame manner, cleaning shoe adjustments can increase or decrease throughput and capacity of the machine. The widest setting of the chaffer and sieve allow the most grain to pass through in the least amount of time with the least resistance, and the fastest fan speed or maximum amount of cleaning air allows for the best cleaning. BUT we have to reduce the chaffer and sieve clearances to prevent broken cob/pods/heads/glumes from getting to the grain tank and producing a dirty sample, and/or reduce the fan speed to prevent blowing excess grain over the cleaning shoe and out onto the ground. With heavier grain like corn, we can go with wider chaffer/sieve speeds and more air; nothing is perfect and the loss of occasional small or underdeveloped or shriveled or broken kernels out the back is acceptable to a certain degree, in exchange for better cleaning and a cleaner sample in the tank. Closing the chaffer too much and reducing air can result in grain riding out the back of the machine with the chaff instead of being blown out, and reducing the sieve clearance too much can result in excessive amounts of clean grain riding over the sieve and dropping into the returns pan/auger and being sent back to the cylinder a second time, which usually results in cracked kernels from the second pass through the cylinder and concave. That's why it's important to get a balance of settings, typically more air and more clearance of the chaffer/sieve settings is preferable to less air and tighter settings... reduce air only enough to prevent blowing grain over the shoe and out the back, and close the chaffer and sieve only enough to prevent excess chaff, cob, pods, or other trash from getting mixed in the clean grain tank...
Ya need to mount one of those led bar lights on the roof of the combine to shine down on the head and ta see out in front of ya. I stumbled across yer videos and really enjoy your content keep up the great work and stay safe bud.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Had a 3300 for years but we run a 3 row corn head. Great machine in corn mine wasn't very good in soybeans
So far it’s working pretty well for me!
Cool video. My dads first combine was a four row Oliver, then a Gleaner F, then a John Deere 4400.
I am a hobby farmer had a 2 row .get a 4 row best move you can make. I don't know anything about your operation but I have had Gleaners the simplest combine to work on and do the same job as others when adjusted and maintained properly. Have aKinzie 2000 planter fixed it up works flawless now for years. 4 row head equals a lot less corn loss more than thespeed factor . Food for thought .
Good information, thanks!
I have several pieces of equipment that I don't use anymore that I would be willing to give to you
What equipment do you have?
Now there is a deal for you.
@@shaffershomestead I do live near Rockford,IL but I have JD disk,a drag,an 8440 JD tractor, and a 9600 combine. The disk is a 20 foot 235 center fold,a 20 foot drag,a 1980 8440 that needs a head gasket,O-rings on the input shaft to the front trans-axel,and a belly pan gasket,I just bought the 89 9600,I would like to keep some parts off of it,but it looks like with some work, that it would be a good combine
I’ll definitely keep that in mind! Thank you!
I don't know what your budget might be,but you could buy a four row JD max-emerge 7000 planter for less than $1,000 at an auction, they are infinitely better than the one that you have now. When my dad traded his 1290 planter for a new 7000 planter, that was the happiest that I ever saw him
That’s good to know!
Where are these 1000 dollar 7000 series planters? Haha. I haven’t seen any. They say hunting clubs buying them up has really raised the price on them.
@@spence5627 You can find them at auctions around the country
Try a 4 row cornhead
Have a 3300 myself and have seen comments on other sites saying 4 row is more than a 3300 likes.
Man my friend you need a gravity dump grain cart bad couple of them would be good then you don't have to unload in bags.
Oh Trust me I know 🤣 but gotta start somewhere
I'm 62,when I was a kid my dad had a JD 45 combine, then a 55,105,7700,and 7720,I bought a 9400 new in 1992,and still use it,I also have several 9600 combines.I was wondering what part of the country that you are in?
Pennsylvania
Hi,I am a grain farmer from IL,if the 3300 has a posi-torque transmission the belts need to be adjusted equally,or one,or the other will slip.
So maybe it’s just the belts and I don’t have to rip apart clutch?
@@shaffershomestead You could see in the video that the top belt was loose, you can adjust the pulleys to tighten the belts evenly
Good to know!
Always wheat after beans. Never seen somebody try it after corn. Normally because it’s to late in the growing season.. good luck
Not much nitrogen left for wheat.
Lots of farmers around here plant wheat after corn believe it or not, it’s all in how soon you get the corn off
@shaffershomestead I'm not saying you can't. Both corn and wheat use up nitrogen where beans return it to the soil. So add plenty of nitrogen to your fertilizer.
Corn looks like a real clean sample.
Yes it does!
That combine is awesome. Built like a tank. Bet those orange machines won’t last like the green one.
Put LED lights on it
Good idea!
If your hill slope in this field is 10% or less you should be fine driving the combine across it. IMO I would keep the engine on the uphill slope.
I think since the cab isn’t centered on the machine it makes the feeling worse depending which side you’re going across the field
@@shaffershomestead Understand that feeling. First time I operated a combine on a hillside an old Gleaner G, it was a little intimidating. It was a 7% slope. My dad calmed my nerves by having me run it always with the engine uphill, after a few passes I felt better.
I’m sure my pap ran his 4400 and 4420 on that field and never had a problem , maybe next year I’ll give it a shot!
You can get shop manuals online for the JD3300 and Operators Manual. It would be beneficial for. Like the issue with the hydraulic pump.
I do have the op manual for it and it has been helpful!
Had the same problem with my 4400 you need tied that pump
Love my cfmoto. Have a 2015 z force 800.
So far loving mine!
That isn't that steep we do alot steeper ones no problems
Good to know!
👍👍👍
Those bin extensions usually would also have an auger extension installed too, but that may not have been offered for the 3300.
head needs lower to the ground snout are high take it from old farmer
I thought that also.
Just remember tractors and combines have been rolling over it for years it's scary but it's ok 😊
That was my thought! But I think this year till I get comfortable in the machine it’s best to just not chance it
Go sideways up and reverse!!!
Tried that , it wasn’t planted that way so you end up knocking more over than it’s worth
@@shaffershomestead Copy
not too steep at all id be concerned with a big hopper, but Id pick it empty for sure
Good to know thanks
Oh my god the anger really older combine didn't have a boot on anger
Auger.
It did have one at some point but it was taken off I’m assuming
@@shaffershomestead you need too get a for row cornhead
Yup, but gotta start somewhere
@shaffershomestead will a long of a cornheader that wood start u out good
What did you ever do about the hydraulic pump you just can't leave it like that it has to be fixed I think you're wasting too much time unloading so often I think you should take it up that's what those things are there for so it can hold more I'd take it up and see what happens and you're just crawling you could go a lot faster than what you're going. One other thing can you get bigger heads for that combine cuz that two row is so slow even a four row would be better or a six row.
I wasn’t filling it crazy full because either clutch or belt would slip
@shaffershomestead They made 3 row heads for it. You can switch to 30 inch rows.
Understand. Sounds like you got more maintenance to do before she's up to snuff yeah I'm sure those belts aren't cheap so you're probably going to have to do them one at a time or something but yeah at least she held in there for the first year here.
Definitely glad it held up!
Yes on the belt slipping
To me it looks like an opportunity to buy a 6620 😉 but maybe a gravity wagon first
Are you going to grow soybeans next year?
I thought about doing beans but I may not
What year 4 gen dodge is that nice truck
2018!👍🏻
Cool
0:08 look at all that dinner
For what little corn you harvested I think it did pretty good and you'll get better as your running machine more it takes time you just can't you know hop into a machine you never ran before and and be good at it that'll come I just subscribed to your channel looking forward to day two of harvest and see what the machine does.
I agree the sample wasn’t terrible and hopefully I get comfy with running it soon! Thanks for subscribing, much appreciated!! 😎
Put a chunk of inner tube over the end.
I bought a silicon stove boot - the kind that goes over a 6" stove pipe to tie to a roof tile.
You said rotor speed you meant to say cylinder speed
Oops, I’m still trying to learn it all 😅😅
Never knew that Deere made a 3300 combine tell now. Cool
First
Kitty giving some love. Just curious what yr and model the deer is?
The combine is 3300 year I’m not exactly sure on unless you’re talking about the tractor in the shed
Yeah that's an old combine that you got there yeah it's going to take you forever to do anything with a two row head can tell you that looks like it hasn't been taken care of and been sitting outside for a number of years I would like to have seen you replace that rotted out thing all together so you don't have to do it again when the patch runs out just remember doing maintenance first you won't have to do it in the field when you need it the most.
