    1914 Star and 1914/15 Star data - this was summarised from the NMP DVD. The yellow highlights reflect miscategorisation in 2 cases: 1914 Star Medal Roll - Royal Irish Fusiliers Other Ranks (zero data) appear under Royal Irish Rifles. 1914/15 Star Medal Roll Many Royal Irish Rifles Other Ranks appear under Royal Irish Regiment. Except for NCOs these are easily identifiable by rank "Rifleman" instead of "Private"

    Speaking as an average layperson, I must say this depiction appears very realistic, in that it doesn't over-glorify Churchill at all. He was just a normal solider who stepped up and did the right thing in a desperate situation.

      217rnswr lol exactly. It's funny to realize that half of these key board generals would have been picked off in the first few minutes of contact with the enemy, had they been in the situation.

    When I was growing up my father taught a story about Sir Winston Churchill being captured during the Boer War and escaping from them. My great grandfather was in the Boer War and was riding in a train and you wouldn't believe who was getting onto the train escaping from the Boers. Yes, Sir Winston Churchill. My great grandfather hid him on the train. And Sir Winston Churchill escaped the Boers. My great grandfather's name was Fredrick Taylor. And that was what happened.

    Interesting portrayal. In later life Winston got so fat and weak from physical inactivity he could hardly walk.

    • @dehdeh55
      @dehdeh55 7 лет назад

      He was old, being born in 1874, so by 1940 he was 66 yr old. With his heavy drinking and smoking, and obesity, this was pretty elderly physically. Amazingly, he lived until 1965.

    • @paddy864
      @paddy864 7 лет назад

      A rather stupid observation, given that it's pretty well what happens to all of us in the end. It's also total nonsense as he was incredibly active both physicaly and mentally throughout the the whole of the second world war under levels of stress that would have killed many younger men. It killed FDR by the way. And as another poster has already pointed out, he died in 1965 at the age of 91, not a bad age even now.

    • @dehdeh55
      @dehdeh55 7 лет назад

      In fact, he was not physically active during WWII. Compare the picture here with pictures of him during WWII. HE was a wonderful speaker, but that does not take much fitness.

    Not a bad depiction of a Boer War armoured train. Winston still carries the Mauser automatic heater that we saw him use to good effect at Omdurman. Early in the conflict, the Boers made successful attacks on trains, but the South African railway network ultimately became one of the main agents of their defeat.
