Live from Ronnie Scott's in London
ART and the group really get deep into this classic piece composed by Gordon Jenkins.
The multi-mike analogue recording was mixed live to two track stereo without noise reduction, limiting, compression or equalization and when Ray Staff cut the original lacquers back in 1980 he used no noise reduction, limiting, compression or equalization (other than RIAA of course!).
The 4 cd set is available on Widow's Choice records,Laurie Pepper's label
🙏💙✨🎶
Love it
Great Art P.
WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT
Just GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Bosch Season 7, episode 5!!!
A great piece here 👍
They played this on Amazon's Bosch. (Season 7 - Episode 5)
By MILCHO LEVIEV
Milcho..Art..wonderful, fantastic music...
A beautiful song by MILCHO A beautiful song by MILCHO....
I just love this record.Havent been able to find out whether there is a CD available anywhere.I have only been able to locate vinyl on eBay.
I knew a guy who had it on vinyl and I taped it onto cassette. I contacted the label but they said they wouldn't release it on CD 😢 These versions of Arts songs with Milcho Leviev were so different to the versions he recorded in the US. I prefer them and thought they needed to be put online. I made this channel to just put these up but can't remember the password 😂
私はこのCDを持ってますが。 復帰後ペッパーのベストパフォーマンスです♬
I have this LP. Bought at the time on the recommendation of my university tutor Richard. At the time the post punk thing was on my turntable, The Jam were coming to the end of their run but mod revival was a big influence. Somehow Bulgarian jazz just went with it.
Put this is on your headphones when you go out for your early morning jog - you will be flying by the end!
“I feel that Milcho Leviev has as much technical ability as any piano player I’ve ever heard. Any piano player.” Art Pepper 1980 ❤️
I think so, but with an exceptional culture in all kinds and styles of music..
Forgot this for years and now this!! Absolutely the Best!!
😏🎶💞🌱
I went to two nights of the fortnight he played at Ronnie's, where this was recorded, not the nights the LPs were recorded at, sadly. Two of the best jazz gigs I've been to, they were the sort of gig where the band starts playing...and suddenly it's two hours later, and you've no idea where the time went. Incredible.
Creo que este tema es Straight Life y no Y I Blues. ??????????
It could be. I only had a version recorded onto tape for me from vinyl, and I lost the song names and tried to remember
Milcho Levy presenta a Art Pepper en el Ronnie Scott, todsa una primicia, de aquellas, jajajaj
My favourite ever saxophonist. I saw two of the gigs in this residency, though not the one that was recorded. They were the sort of gig where the band starts playing, and suddenly it's two hours later, and you've no idea where the time went.
This music was written by the great Milcho Leviev who passed away recently. R.I.P. , Maestro!
R.I.P. Milcho Leviev!!!
He was "A Good One!"
Those cats were on top of the world
A great track... This track, while not 'getting me into jazz', made me really appreciate it for the first time. It's deep, hot, heady... Pepper at his best. You can get so lost in it, especially after a few drinks! And the precision of the drummer!! Wow - he doesn't miss a beat. Amazing
Thanks!
Unconditional love to Sir Art Pepper and extended gratitude to Mr. BenJamesist the uploader.
Hi to all brothers in love of Art Pepper and Milcho Leviev, does, please, anybody know who are the other two Maestros who contributed to this musical gem?
his long time drummer is Carl Burnett and subbing for his normal bass player, Bob Magnusson, is the great bassist Tony Dumas - "KEEP ENJOYING THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ"
Milcho Leviev rules! Sokrates
YOU ARE RIGHT! - Milcho does rule along with this whole Quartet! - "KEEP ENJOYING THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ"
An amazing record from a great artist. I spoke to Art at a jazz festival in Knebworh in the late 1970's and he was a real gentleman to me and my small son John. Many thanks for the posting
Soulful 😍would love to have been there that night -recored in London,I believe
Yeah, says Ronnie Scotts on the LP
Until I heard Art Pepper I thought there was no one to touch Charlie Parker for sheer emotive power---and this record -Art at his Best!!
Bought this amazing music as two albums when they were first released on the London based Mole Jazz label. The label and record shop of the same name in Kings Cross went out of existence some years ago, as far as I know. Still have the albums and the music still thrills. Many thanks for uploading.
Same here. I also bought this album at Mole. I cant find the record anymore and I cant find this track on any cd. Art is simply sublime here. Thanks
I was living near Mole at the time as a student and think I bought my copy there also.
Me too. I love these albums. I don't care much for early AP but with ML they are both superb
GREAT ART PEPPER RECORDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - having seen what I called "The Big 5" in person in the 60's - Miles, Coltrane (twice before he died in '67 - once with Eric Dolphy), Monk, Cannonball and The MJQ, the two all-time greats I regret I never saw in person were Cal Tjader and Art Pepper - and living in South Orange County and spending a lot of time in San Francisco, there is no reason for not having seen them - another great recorded version of this song, done close to when Art died, is on the CD UNRELEASED ART, VOL. III - THE CROYDON CONCERT MAY 14, 1981 - "KEEP ENJOYING THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ" - (as usually Milcho Leviev is incredible on piano)
Great!!!! My all time favorite jazz record!!!! Art Pepper forever!!!!
If i had to name one track that finally and irrevocably got me into jazz, this would be it.
+Alistair Candlin Art is just an incredible player. This track is hot, groovy, incandescent, furious but joyful.
I posted this track on my fb timeline and as a caption I quoted your comment. Because of that "irrevocably" word. there is a sense of "irrevocability" once your ears get acquainted with something like that. I could say I love thousands of songs, but I choose to marry this one. I would say Art Pepper for me is a father in law.

IN-CRE-I-BLE
It's available now as THE COMPLETE ART PEPPER AT RONNIE SCOTT'S-JUNE 1980!!!! Absolutely great, highly recommended!!!!
I have the LP
Ps. What I meant to say was l never experienced any of that and it makes me sad, all those wonderful musos! - Grrr!
I love this track Ophelia especially, though the album sizzles throughout! What art starts to build at 1.46 is bliss. I was born 1961 when guys like art pepper were in their element - yeah we have great players today for sure, more all the time as music education is so accessible..... But.. i yearn for the old school who are no longer with us it aint the same!! Imagine leaning on the bar with a seagrams at birdland, bud powell and navarro are on their way to Mintons and you gonna follow when jackie mclean finishes up....! Ah sorry for my crap but y'know?!
1987 sounds about right , John, I borrowed it from Palmers Green Library and taped it - lost it after several moves and here it is. God bless the internet. Wonderful.
Recorded 28/29 June 1980 at Ronnie Scott's. Milcho Leviev, piano Tony Dumas, bass Carl Burnett, drums
dynamite. I heard this song while watching Ken Burns' Jazz, and I knew I had heard another version and had loved it. I could not remember where I had heard it, or the title, so I waited for the credits. When I saw the title, I knew it was from a cassette tape that I recorded of this very version back in about 1987 or so. I am so grateful to for posting this. Now I have a way to enjoy this CD once again.
Mellifluous melodic mastery.
The most poetic alto saxophonist in the history of jazz
오메로스 Poetic is the right word, I agree with you.
Too good to be true. One of my greatest regrets is not attending this gig, which I could have, as I was livi ng in London at the time. Also missed Bill Evans!! On the other hand, I saw Dizzy @ Ronnie's in around 1984. I think he was the greatest instrumentalist I ever saw, with the possible exception of David Oistrakh.
Fantastic playing by all concerned. I've been looking for this for 30 years, so I'm grateful it has been uploaded.
This is a very rare album, seem impossible to find so this is a very important contribution to what Art Pepper did. Could hope for a bit higher sound quality but I´m happy to hear it again!
