    Great video of Op's. I like that it's at switching speed. After spending 37 years as a Road Conductor/yard forman on locals and industry jobs for the UP. Hired out with a crew 4, engr/cond/2 swtmn and retired with a just a engr and me as Forman. I like the detail of figures and soothing covered buildings. Keep up the ops videos.

    I was just looking at some of the New York Central System Historical Society articles in their Modeler magazine and thought about your videos. You should inquire about sending them pictures of your layout and NYC equipment. You may already be a member, but if not, think about joining and writing an article about the Highline. You can also tell them about your videos. They are much better than the ones they have.

      Hi Tom! Thanks for the note. I am a member of the NYCSHS. As you know, I model it and also my father-in-law worked for the Central in the towers around Rochester, NY, from the 1940s to 1960. My layout was in the Central Modeler about five or six years ago, with an article and photos across two issues.. The layout has changed significantly since then, though.

    The smoothness of the slow speed running is impressive. Do you wire power feeds to each piece of track to ensure smooth electrical continuity across the rails? Did you re-gear the locomotives to get them to run that smooth at such a slow speed? The building flats along the water front look so good. The entire level of details look so good.

    • @manhattanterminalrailroadh9776
      @manhattanterminalrailroadh9776 Год назад

      I can’t say every piece of track has feeders wires, but most. And as I have reworked sections of the layout, including a new 12 foot extension, I do add feeders to every piece of track. I have not re-geared any locomotives, but I have learned from experience which brands lend themselves to slow speed operations and which do not. In addition to buying only units that operate well at slow speed, I play around a lot with CV settings, including momentum for acceleration and braking, to get the smoothness I’m looking for. The brand of decoder makes a difference, too.

      Thanks! The SD24 is one of my newer units and I don’t believe it has been used in a video. The time period has gradually crept forward in time from late 1950s to 1965. It will creep further to 1966 when I add a GP40 to the roster, but I don’t expect it to be any more recent than that.
