Yeah also feel the flight model a bit slow. It’s probably because of technical reasons or maybe these are really slow jets. But it doesn’t affect the enjoyment.

Some of the different jets have VASTLY different speeds. The jet that was featured in this video is slower than a few others (but isn't the slowest)

Congrats, you gonna have a great time with your quest that’s for sure. Quest Games Optimizer is a must. It really improves your experience. There are plenty of tutorials about how to install it on your quest.

In this case they added the loading screen because the mission area is different from the starting area. But yeah I hate the rings as well

Yeah you’re right. I was pretty slow so I was trying to compensate with the flaps to provide more lift. The problem is that I completely lost maneuverability. Lesson learned 😅

Thank for the kind words. Just to let you know that my Mrs always finds some excuses to “kill” me. If it’s not game it’s something else. They are pretty creative when it comes to that 😂😂😂

Not for now but I hope the devs include that option in the future because it brakes immersion. In the other hand I’m not sure I can land without them 😅

Yeah we are never too old for VR. I had the PSVR1 but I couldn’t enjoy it fully because of motion sickness in movement games. Then I got the PSVR2 and committed myself to overcome motion sickness because I wanted to play grand tourism in VR. Now with the Meta quest you have apps like Theater Elsewhere that show a bit of what the future holds

Oh yes. Helicopters would be awesome 🤩. This is not even close to VTOL in terms of physics. But it conveys realism and the cockpits are pretty close to the real planes (I’ve compared some pictures online)

I’m grabbing the virtual controls on the plane and for me it works good. But I’m not using a HOTAS for a long time so I’m used to this.

The virtual stick is the way to go because you have an incredible amount of precision (2 foot throw on the stick - like in real life.) But we are looking at supporting HOTAS systems that connect to the Quest. Are you successfully using one now with any other games by any chance?

The game just came out for early access and the dev team is very small, it’s unlikely.

We are thinking about it, but we don't have the resources (right now) to increase the detail level to PS4/5 level graphics. (Obviously we can't put $20 million into this like Ace Combat ;-) ) We could do it "as is" graphically, but I think PS players would be expecting more? Let me know what you think.

Yes games on PSVR2 do look better. But I don’t touch my PSVR2 since I got the Quest 3S. My perception is that games run smoother on Quest with Quest Games Optimizer. Maybe because on PSVR2 devs have the “better graphics pressure” and my brain is sensitive to reprojection 🤷‍♂️. Also if Aces of Thunder is well received on PSVR2 maybe in 1 year people will be craving for another realistic flight experience. There’s also the rumor that the new Ace Combat will have a VR mode.

And it works really well on my Quest 2!

If they added HOTAS then it wouldn't be standalone. Are you going to plug your HOTAS into the headset? Plus, you'd still need controllers to interact with cockpit switches, or you'd have to bind every function to the HOTAS. Why complicate something that works well as is?

@@angryginger791 You’re absolutely right, the game works great as is! Still, in games like this, I miss having something physical to hold-not necessarily to control, but just for support. I’m a hobbyist and enjoy creating solutions, even if they’re complex. For example, I made a PS4-Alexa integration years ago that people still use today. Maybe someday connecting a HOTAS to the Quest via USB hub will be possible-Meta has added external mic support before. Anyway, I love the game’s simplicity and elegance. Meanwhile, I’ll keep complicating my life for fun… 😂 Happy 2025!

I also used to get motion sickness, but I read somewhere that if you “practice” regularly for short periods at a time and take off your headset before you start to feel strange, your brain gets used to it. Because if you push it to the point of motion sickness your brain starts to associate VR with that feeling and it’s hard to get out of that loop.

@TooOldForVR I know, I've had the psvr1 back in the day, that was the worst for me. Many games gave me motion sickness on the headset.. so I sold it. When the Q1 came out later, I bought that one, took a gamble, but with luck. I experienced almost no motion sickness anymore, from the get go. But flight games, still though.. haven't played one since I think warplanes 1. Oh yeah and Flight 74, didn't make me extremely motion sick, but did give me a weird feeling after a short time, enough to not go back to it after a couple of sessions

Yeah, you can adjust your positioning so you can be more forward, backwards, up, and down. There is also a convenient button to reset your positioning. Another cool feature is that these seating preferences stay across all missions + free flight activities!

Inside the cockpit it looks top notch and it’s a joy to look at. Outside it’s a different story, it’s a bit “simple” and the structures only look good from afar. You have options to increase tree density, better graphics, etc., but it will impact the performance. But this is still in early access so maybe the can still do some optimization.

Yes. I world say this is a big step up from the warplane series in terms of realism. But we have to keep our expectations in check because it is still standalone vr and the mobile chip can only do so much. Even then, for 4 person studio, this is f**ing impressive 🤯

For now yes. Standalone Quest is where most of the market is for the near future.

Well, meta quest 2 and 3s. If you have a quest 2 or above, you can fly!

Yes I have the same issue. I think it has to do with the image stabilization option for the recording. The more stable you set it to be, the more it will crop the video of the recording. The way you can compensate for it is to sit a bit further away from the controls.

Ahahah I’m also pretty bad at multitasking. But you get used to it pretty fast. The missions also have a gradual increase in difficulty.

@TooOldForVR Its not the Multitasking, its more like, the more i'm doing off Center, the more the Pane goes in a Direction i don't want it to go. 😄

@@TheGreatMajima The game has a GREAT tutorial system (I may be biased; I work on the game lol). I have never flown a plane before (or quite frankly used VR before this) and I was able to pick up the controls pretty quickly.

@@glennhadcock1810 I bought it like 2 Hours ago and you are right, it has a great Tutorial. 🙂 I just completed the first Plane(unguided Bombs where a bit of a Pain😄) and now got 2 real Missions with the 2nd one. I gotta say, i lovr it do far. Great work. 👍🏻

I’m not sure if you can even connect HOTAS to the meta quest without a pc. Have to check.

Can’t do that, but I did see a mounting setup for the Quest controllers so they kind of work like stick and throttle.

Yes it pricey but don’t let the early access label put you down because I’ve been playing every day and only got to finish the campaigns of 3 planes. It has a lot of content.

Warplanes is a bit more simple. This one has more attention to the details, the plane interiors are more realistic. Clearly a step um from the warplanes series.

Interesting... unfortunately, in many missions the takeoff/landing area is different from the mission area (data-speaking) so it doesn't exist any longer to show the cut-scene. But I get you on the immersion issue. Hmmm...

Ah I didn’t get it 😂. But steam has very good flight sims and soon you will have Aces of Thunder that it’s promising a good single player campaign.

Yes. If you are on PCVR you have hardcore sims like VTOL and DCS that aren’t even comparable. But for standalone this is pretty good to “scratch the itch”.
