After one year of having the Prinsu Roof Rack on my build, I finally made a video going over it. Prinsu makes fantastic products and I'm glad I chose their roof rack for my truck. In this quick review, I do an overview of the rack which includes tips on how to install. I did the install solo, but having a friend would be helpful. Join us in our trip to WV! The first half of the video is mainly camping ASMR that leads into the Canyon Rim Trail! We then tackle the Canaan Loop Trail! Both trails are rated 3/10 on OnXOffroad. In my opinion, I would rate them a 5/10 (especially if you are a beginner). Portions of the Canaan Loop were very rocky and mildly annoying (bouncing back and forth). Introduction to the channel - 21’ Ford Ranger Overland Build
Nicely done. Just for consideration, you could use your Fiscars Axe/Hatchet to process those split log pieces into kindling vice batoning with your Camillus Cleaver. Hatchet processing can be more efficient given the greater weight of the axe head. The axes thickness also makes it more durable. Repeated blows on the thiner knife blade could expose defects in the metal resulting in knife failure.
I’ll have to try that out! The knife is definitely beat up after using this process for a few trips. Thanks for the advice, looking forward to trying it next time we camp.
how do you have the boxes attached to the roof rack? Im looking for a strapless type of latch for boxes thats easy to attach and remove.
I used carriage bolts. Drilled six holes into the case and mounted them, then used silicone to seal. I took the case off because I also want a system where you can remove the box when not camping. I’ll most likely buy the Roam 83L case with its rugged mounts. Check them out. The only issue is that they’re pretty expensive just for a box.
Hot mulligan!!!!
Top comment !
Will the steering wheel audio controls still work?
Yes, it does! You have to make sure to use the same settings I showed in the video and it will work perfectly.
Just came across your channel and your videos are awesome man! Keep up the good work! I’d be interested in seeing your electrical/power setups. How you’ve wired everything, etc.
I really appreciate that! Glad you enjoy the videos. I'll be doing a video going into more detail regarding electric setup soon. Just waiting for the weather to get warm again. Thanks again!
Awesome! How tough was the installation?
Not bad at all! It's plug and play for majority. Depending on the options you pick when buying the unit, you'll end up with more parts. Everything it came with was labeled so it helped alot. Took me about an hour or two.
Hello, at 800 lumens, will it dim after some time? or will it keep the 800 lumens all the way until the battery runs out?
Hello! I believe it will slowly begin to dim. However, I have not experienced this yet.
We love this setup! Great install
Thanks! Love your products
Definitely need a video on the bed power! 🔥
Coming up soon!
I've seen a lot of posts about glitches and such, hard to tell what's legitimate. Is the unit still installed and working? Are you happy with it? Thanks
Hello! Yes, I still have the unit installed. It's working great. There is a reset button if the system does glitch out but it has been very rare for me. I didn't use my truck for two full weeks and it worked just fine. Booted up with no issues. This is just my experience though. Hoped this answered your question!

Hi, I have a Ford Ranger lariat 2019. 4by4 Looking to upgrade, just like your radio. Need more info on how to install it myself ? And where to purchase at a reasonable price? Ty much appreciated 😁
Hello! Check out Linkswell's installation video on RUclips. They made a video for the Ford Ranger. I'll link it below. The cheapest you can find this radio currently is if you use my coupon code "Cactus" after you add it to the cart. The link for the radio is in the description. Awesome truck! Gives me inspiration for my 2021 Stx ranger I just picked up.
Thank you! Glad to hear you got yourself one. They’re a great platform. Let me know if you ever have questions.
@@OverlandingCactus You’re welcome. Yeah, I’m happy with it. Had a 08 ranger for many years and this is a great upgrade. Thanks man I definitely will.
Love this mate, quick question about the Molle kit, did you get manage the bottom strap so it doesn't interfer with whoever is sitting in the front seat? That is, did you get it tucked away? Thank you, great video!
Thank you! I have it tucked into the seat cushion. I never notice it!
Thank you for that, I’ll have to have another go and play around with the strap, great work mate.
You’re welcome. Thank you for the kind words. Take care!
Great video, glad you’re back.
Hey thank you! Appreciate the support. Lots of good stuff going on in the background but uploads will be more frequent moving forward!
What kind of mpg are you averaging? Also do you have a rear locking differential?
$1600 is crazy
It is pretty expensive. The OEM radio works great. The main selling point in my opinion is that it looks better and has a multitude of options (more cameras, watch videos, etc.). I personally do not like the body style of the new Rangers. However, I do love their infotainment setup. If you're someone who plans on keeping their Ranger for awhile like me, I think it's worth it.
@@OverlandingCactusI feel the same way as you do!
Great video, very informative, keep up the good content!
Thank you!
I have OZ tune on my Ranger . Since it’s not a canbus device and a file tuner . Will that matter? I
I am not sure. I'd guess you would be okay, but no promises!
Did you ever get this head unit? I also have an OZ tune and would hate to have issues with it. I think it would most likely be saved in the pcm of the truck and that the head unit does not matter
Do you worry about the weather and your exposed fridge? Fellow Ranger guy here, and I just really do not want to get a hard shell camper... but I'm concerned about my fridge being exposed in the truck bed.
Man your setup is so sick! Do you have a video explaining your drawer system? Looks like you affix it all to plywood in the bed; how do you have that secured? Appreciate your channel!
I actually do. This was my old bed rack set up without a cover. Since this video, I've made a new set up that I have not seen yet on YT. It's the rhino bed rack with Elevate rails and a locking Gator roll-up cover. I will be doing a video on it soon so everyone can see. It's a good budget option, especially if you already have the roll-up cover.
@@NowForWrathGaming Thank you! I really appreciate that. When I make the video mentioned in the other comment, I will go over my bed. Yes, I have plywood down but it is not fixed to the bed (it's very heavy so it ain't going anywhere). Hoped this helped! I'll be posting the bed rack system video in about a week or two.
@@OverlandingCactus You've inspired me to try using a sheet of plywood, spray-painted black, and drill in some heavy duty eye-holes for tie downs. My gear is all in rugged storage containers (maybe drawers someday!) and I need it to be removable with relative ease. Looking forward to when you post that video, and thanks for the reply!
Your plywood solution is the smartest, most economical solution I've seen on here. It's so good!
nice rig
Thank you!
Awesome video, huge inspiration and shopping list for building out my own '20 Ranger XLT Off-Road. Loving some of the storage hacks I see here.
Hey thank you so much that means a lot. The Ranger is an awesome truck for a build. Good luck with your truck!
Good looking truck. Where are you in Ohio? Some decent trails down in Vinton County.
Thank you! I'm in NEO. Where are the trails in Vinton?
Looks laggy/stuttery when you’re using Apple car play ..
Compared to other vehicles I've driven with wireless car play, it's much better. I don't think it'll ever be just as fast as wired car play though.
Takinf my tacoma on 33s here on Saturday
You'll love it. Trails like these make me wish I lived out west.
Would’ve been nice to know it was a gen 6 not a gen 5
I stated that it was the 6th Gen in the description. Also, the link to the product takes you to the 6th Gen listing on the website.
I need one for my 19 ranger looks sick
I've been loving it. Still going strong!
Came here for the ranger, stayed for the gear
Sweet! Glad to have you
What motor is in your ranger. Is it the 4 cylinder. Thanks
2.3L 4 Cylinder w/ turbo!
Did you remove the big antenna on the back of the cab?
It actually wasn’t on there when I got the truck. They had the antenna in the glove box. The antenna block is still up there.
@@OverlandingCactus ohh maybe it just screws off 🤔
Nice 👍 Doesn't look that rough at all
The section that was uphill was stressful. It was much more intimidating in person, plus our turbo hose came undone during that portion. Loved that trail! Definitely will go back
@@OverlandingCactus I was reading a trail book about that pass, there's supposed to be like a dozen water crossings, any issues with your Ranger making it through?
@@LawnMM Not at all. Most of them were very shallow. There was only one that I would consider "deep". In all reality, it wasn't deep at all. I did go in October, so I'm not sure if the water levels were lower than normal.
Hi what ford ranger is that? I live in Australia and never seen that ford ranger before. I have ford fx4 max.
Greetings! This is the 2021 Ford Ranger XLT. I believe we have different models/trims when comparing US to Australian market
@OverlandingCactus do you know if this will work on Australia rangers?
@@HenryTheBoilermaker3rdYear I am not sure but I would assume not. I will ask the manufacturer and get back to you!
@@OverlandingCactus yes please do.
1600 usd?!! So expensive
Yes it most definitely is! I tried to go in with as much detail as possible so people could make an educated decision before dropping that much money.
@OverlandingCactus too bad it's not right hand wheel.
I know that truck, I ain't no stranger. I know that truck, thats a Ford fucking ranger!
There are many like it, but this one is mine 🫡😂
What about Sirius XM and Cellular Hotspot?
I have used the cellular hotspot, works great. I believe it has Sirius XM, but I don’t use that service.
Can you connect to Bluetooth on your phone for calls and music?
Yes you can! If you don’t want to use Apple car play or android auto, it has its own Bluetooth system. The kit comes with a microphone that I discussed later in the video. Hope this helped!
Nice review, ive been considering this. What about adding a front camera, i think this has something for that too no? Would be nice for off-road
Thank you! The kit comes with HDMI cables that connect to the screen. I believe it would be possible but I’m not positive. An undercarriage camera would be awesome.
You can add cameras. The radio will come with a front, rear and 1 side input. We also have an optional multi cam interface. we demo under carriage cameras on our Jeep in this video ruclips.net/video/gTtj7bMM1nc/видео.htmlsi=Lj91o0nxTZiZ7Va_
What about the settings for sync? Like ambient settings or backup camera settings etc.
I’ve been looking at purchasing a system like this for my Ranger. This might be it.
Sync is not retained with this system. There are ambient settings. The back up camera does work. It should be showcased later in the video. Let me know if you have any other questions. I definitely recommend it!
Super
Thank you!
Driver side air stuck on last setting which I set on old system other side is good
I replied with the solution to one of your other comments.
Sir in am also fixing same screen in ranger limited but my one side climate change not working other side is good
Hello! I had the same issue. This is how you fix it. Go to settings - Click Car Model/AC - Press Ford, F150 HI, other - Then Press “Protocol” and select “Changyuantong with Xinpu”. The system will then reboot. This should make the climate controls work. I talk about this in the video at 13:00. Let me know if this helped!
@@OverlandingCactus ok sir I try it now think I did but I try again .
Sir when you fix air conditioning plus then fans start automatically or not ? Beautiful my Star automatically which is indicated that wires of China is different
No sir nothing help 😭
@@SimranjeetSingh-o6x My fan automatically turns on when the truck turns on. If the A/C is on, I just press if off.
I wonder if they make it for my ram2500
They do have radios for Rams. Check their website to be sure. I’m seeing that they have them for 2019+ models.
do your usb plugs still function?
Yes they do! They just charge your device now since CarPlay and Android Auto is wireless with the new system.
I want one of these, where can I go to get one and what all do I need for the install. Also what code do you prefer me to use? TIA
There is a link in the description! The discount code is “Cactus”. It will give you 10% off! You will need trim removal tools (cheap on Amazon) and a socket wrench kit. I believe the socket required is between 8-10mm. Hope this helped! Let me know if you need anything else.
Nice truck! When installing the Prinsu rack, was it necessary to remove the headliner inside the truck? I think that's the case for 4Runners but not sure if it's necessary for all vehicles. Thanks.
Thank you! And no, you don’t need to remove the headliner completely. You need to only remove the headliner around the A Pillar where the airbags are. There are bolts in there that you have to unscrew to release the weatherstripping on the roof. The headliner should snap right back into place when you’re done. There are some good videos out there explaining the install. Just make sure to turn your battery when you work around the airbags. Hoped this helped!
Thank you!@@OverlandingCactus

Yoo. Was just looking at any upgrade to my sync3 radio on my 2022 xlt ranger.
Well I hope this review gave you some good information! I love this radio. Definitely makes me feel like I'm in a "newer" or "better" trim model, even though this truck is only a 2021. If you decide to get it, use that coupon code ! Thanks for the support!
👍Inclusion of that radio in the "old" 2023 Ranger platform, makes interior better than 2024 Ranger. Ford engineers see this video, they will be hating on someone.
Thank you! I agree on that. This radio really made my Ranger feel up-to-date compared to the new generation. Really enjoying it 👍
Lol no. The 24 is still way better.
@@Fernando-t8g I don’t have any experience with the new generation Ranger radio but I assume it works great. This is a great fix for someone who has the previous generation and wants new technology.
Ya need a winch.
Yes, eventually. Figuring out which option to go with.
