The Philips incandescent bulbs were kind of “it’ll work, but it will fail eventually” bulbs. They weren’t great, but they did light. They never lasted as long as the GE or Sylvania incandescent bulbs.

That's really neat. I have a handful of these Sunbeam bulbs in different shapes, never knew there was a Christmas tree one.

*UPDATE: This ban has been reversed.* I am still not sure if you will be able to buy them anymore because the manufacturers might not be interested in producing them anymore, or have scrapped their tooling necessary to produce them. The Annoying Orange seems to have done at least one good thing…

One thing you should do is putting a capacitor as a ballast for a fluorescent light ( just a capacitor nothing else)

Spotted 4 globe electric bulbs, and 1 silvania at my grandma's apartment 3rd floor one was flashing, one had a broken filament, and 2 were stuck in closed circuit but also eol i took them all and fitted eol 7w bulbs in them because i had them laying around and because i wanted to finish them off i still have more 7w bulbs left to replace burnt out 13w bulbs

I also post videos like this, but the import and export of mercury lamps is prohibited in Japan, and only metal halide lamps (ceramic) and high pressure sodium lamps are currently sold. Very sad

I got a modified Cyclops Colossus portable Halogen spotlight that's modified with a decent car inverter HID ballast (Hylux A2088) along with G8.5 / T4.5 Halogen-style socket and a 39 Watts ceramic metal halide bulb installed in it - I put one together out of both boredom and curiosity. It's a nice if crazy bright spotlight (and yes CMH bulb works since I had to research the power requirements on both car HID bulb and CMH bulb, turns out they both have the same arc voltage). What I love about this modified spotlight is that it's ridiculously efficient compared to the original 140 Watts car headlight Halogen bulb - lasting up to three - four times longer on a battery charge, AND, 3,200 Kelvin warm white CMH bulb looks exactly like that of Halogen bulb that it's hard to tell whether Cyclops Colossus portable Halogen spotlight is modified or not until you look closely.
