Flying Buccaneers Episode One

The Flying Buccaneers set out on their flying boat adventure down the east coast of Australia to Flinders Island, Tasmania.
Only the last few seconds where the plastics company is credited gives us some clue as to where Risdon Road actually is!
Your biggest mistake here is common sense and local government just don’t go together Ben
Interesting demo. Hope it helps your case for remedial works.
Glorious.....love it
Hey why the different aircrew types, eg 2 and 3 blade?
Dad owend a c-1!And a la-4 200 cypk cheers😮
incredible. thank you so much for sharing this series. eye opening
Watched all two your Buccaneers videos - great trip and great airplane! Thanks for sharing and hi from Israeli pilots!
Well if you are having a hard time deciding between a Lake Buccaneer/Renegade or a Cessna float plane watch this video! Very nice production. Tennessee, USA
Fun times. I grew up with amphibians. I'm looking to acquire 1 atm.
Those planes r a blessing in the carribean n in South America
Howdy dad owed a lake with out the gear! He also owened the skimmer
Really fun video series made with a lot of heart. Great scenery, fun airplanes, and charming tone. Now my wife wants a Lake Buccaneer!
My dream plane! Great video.
Why you put Bell UH-1 sound (15:26-) in this video? Otherwise good video, thanks.
Because I didn't have the sound of the R44 on file.
It's enough to drive any mouse wild! Lol
Love the 360 take off
Dad had a problem with a Quick silver ultralight!
Dad learned to fly at CYVR 1968 Fleet Canuck
Make sure your anchor is secured ! Pitt lake b.c. Canada skimmer! anchor wrapped around pillon!
Dad Larry Williams bush pilot! CF - HYZ! Love ya dad
so cool
Those pair of Vid's was great. Have been a member off & on of SPAA for many years & always had a soft spot for Buccaneers, never got an endorsement, too busy flying out in the bush. My partner & I are buying a plane this year, we were looking at maybe a Searey, my heart keeps saying a Buccaneer. Your Vid's have just made up my mind!!
Well I've never had Wallaby, looks great. God knows we have thousands of em around here and I'd love to try them but,,,,, you know how it is, LOL.
I'm an A&P based in the US and Im looking buying and fixing up a colonial C-1 Skimmer (2 seater predecessor to the buccaneer) if you have any info or hints and tips I would really appreciate it. Thanks for the great video
Thanks for watching the videos. Regarding buying and fixing a seaplane - my advise would be concentrate on any corrosion issues - they’re the expensive and time consuming problems - mechanical issues are easily fixed with just money. Cheers Ben
Very good full...
i am from Brazil and I'd like to know If is safe park a lake buccaneer on the water all the night or It needs to be parking on the land.
No, I have never done it. Too many things can go wrong - anchor drag - leak in hull - jetty or dock damage to the plane. If it is absolutely necessary to leave it in the water, extend the landing gear and drive it partway out of the water.
Miss my old Buccaneer. It was an extra marital affair that my wife approved. The most fun that one could have with clothes on.! VH XPS c/n 1045.
Well done video production 🛩️👍
Watching this in Texas and seeing someone wearing a “Don’t mess with TX” shirt, awesomeness.
They seem to hold their value incredibly well in the US...or, the owners are just that proud of them
....and wouldn’t they - Buccaneers provide more fun for the money than any other plane.
@@buccaneerben I'm actively looking for one, but not willing to pay the asking price on anything I've seen yet. I'm in the Southern US. I love the Seawind also but the wife doesn't want move into a caravan and Lake's fit my needs much better. I remember reading about an OZ amphib a few yrs ago that was about to start production but can't remember, it could've been a kit, but I'm open to anything 4 place with enough ass for sea-level in the summertime...
@@alabastardmasterson I think Buccaneers provide the best bang for the buck - well tried, tested & documented plane (unlike others) - good group of fellow owners. If I were buying new, then it’d be Russian.
@@alabastardmasterson There's a '79 Buccaneer with an STC Turbocharger (!) and Garmin avionics currently on sale on Trade-A-Plane for just 69,000$. Granted, it's rather high time since overhaul, but it still sounds like a steal to me. That's nearly the same price as a land only Cessna 172 of the same era!
...yeah old Dave knew how to build a plane babe...I personally believe I could do it better...but my last love interest destroyed any possibility of that....broads...cant live with them...cant kill them.!...Ha Ha Ha...funny days to start a plane company anyway..any way they want ten million just for one piece of paper...and where's the market these days...eh...?....I've worked on the E2-C the early warning system..and a bunch of other crap....personally I think Dave should have named them after the cats...panther cougar..tiger.. Hellcat...wild cat....etc...etc...maybe Jaguar..?.... Lynxes.?... Were a bunch of cat nuts... At least I am...had 16 a few years ago....wish I had more....ha ha ha...they're cheaper to keep then women. Ha ha ha ....!.....
I think this is a thoughtful and well-planned idea to make the wonderful heritage property viable
Great stuff! What navigation do you use for your iPad?
Glad you liked it. All the Buccaneer pilots used an Australian program called OzRunways. It's very good.
The cheesey intro animation and scripted discussions LOL Great group of owners and very interesting aircraft though.
The animation was just a bit of fun - the pilot discussions weren't scripted but the voiceover was. Directing pilots is similar to herding cats - they all go their own way.
As a local I would love to see this become part of the neighbourhood. I walk past this property every day and I can see that the development has been set well back from the boundaries and the heritage buildings. What a great idea!
Hi. I'm not sure if you are the gentleman I spoke with about 15 years ago. We talked about you once has a Catering business and by me being an American Woman this would be a great start for me back then Well I'm 53 now and I still have my Catering business.. and ready to branch out and earn my polite license.. and any other studies available..... Looking forward to seeing you 870 489-3490 Andrea lynn Washington
Very interesting documentary, wish it was longer.
Great video, bring back so many great memories of my 79 lake.
I'm pleased you liked it - it was fun making it.
I had a 79 LA4-200 years ago and how I miss that slow, loud, fun machine. A lot more fun than my current C177RG
Yes, the Buccaneer is a really fun machine!
Beautifully filmed adventure and a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful air to air footage!
How high can they go?
Been a long while Ben, but I was learning to fly in Caloundra in 2009, ended up getting rated in the water. Always excited to see the Buccaneers out and about, seem to be having the best trips!
The gentleman at the beginning said the Lake Buccaneer was designed by Grumman, and that is not correct at all. Grumman had nothing to do with the design at all!!!!!!
Wasn’t produced by Grumman but it was designed by Grumman engineers Sort of like the beginnings of the lear jet.
Great video!! so, 12 to 15 inches waves are the limit for Bucaneers? also, can they stay on the water overnight? thank you, great flying!
Yes, about 15" of chop is considered the limit - of course, it can take more but stresses the hull. Insurance companies normally won't cover overnight mooring.
Mach Tuck there are videos on RUclips of touch and goes in 2ft shallow chop with 45mph crosswinds. In a newer LSA amphibian that's a death sentence but the Lake's are solid as oak. Not recommended but for the biggest sacks, though
I had a Lake Buccaneer ... a wheel fell off!
I hope you are alright
@@andreawashington1199 yeah, he just landed on the water
Was it the right wheel? Broken lock washer?
@@rossor6ridr no, it was the nose wheel. New bearings were fitted previous day and the roller axle? ( the tube the wheel rotates on) was omitted...so wheel rotated just on the locking bolt until the cup washers gave up.. the engineer got fired!
@@rossor6ridr this is some of the video taken on the day... the narration was over spiced for tv! ruclips.net/video/49aq-sk2wps/видео.html
Great video

12-15 inch waves is a good wave limit, although I have had to operate my buccaneer in much higher waves. Starting at 2ft and growing to about 4ft in open water. I don't recommend operating In conditions like this but it just goes to show what a robust aircraft the buccaneer is.
Surprisingly robust hulls but being able to deal with chop and wind depends on the model of Lake and the pilot. But, still light yrs better than newer models that haven't taken 70yrs of data in to account
Australians want to be what used to be Americans
My friend has two buccaneers
one on each side of his buccanhead ?
