Sam Lake you hack!!!

I was terrified Bloober would end up making this ala Layers of Fear 2 or the Medium, that they’d not handle the themes well, or use Angela’s abuse exploitatively, but they did a damn good job here. There are some line deliveries I prefer here compared to the original, a few extra lines and scenes added that now I feel should’ve been in the original - this is a remake-sequel in the best ways, and I’d damn well recommend someone play this as a companion alongside the original.

Totally agree with you, this game blew me away!! I loved it (aside from a few nitpicks; kind of similar to yours, I wish they kept the pizza scene in and there are some remastered tracks I think are less effective than the OG... I'm soooo sad they didn't include Pianissimo Epilogue at the results screen :_( ). Although and ofc I don't want to direct your interpretation, but I did disagree with your point about Pyramid Head being a monster that exists in Silent Hill for everyone--it's true that this is what happens in the movies and some of the other games, but this is only due to the popularity of Pyramid Head. In reality he really is a monster meant for James. He doesn't make any sense outside of that context. James does see the painting in the historical society, yes, but this is just another way James' Silent Hill is being warped by him (much like how he sees the hole he jumps down in another picture, which is both foreshadowing and a reference to the original game). Additionally, you can find a painting with two cult members in the historical society, one of which has a pyramid-shaped mask, and this imagery is probably what informed James' interpretation of PH. PH exists TO punish and guide James, and I think I even remember the developers saying that underneath the head (as well as the body type) is literally James as well. This is why PH kills themselves at the end of the gauntlet at the end of the game, they are no longer needed and serve no purpose. This is why PH also does not actually try to kill James in the game. You can 'get' killed and have a game over but this is obviously not what canonically happens. Canonically he attacks you and then leaves when the sirens kick in. PH serves a larger purpose than just to 'kill James', he is there to guide him and to force him to confront his sins (which is also why he doesn't kill James in the closet when they 'meet'). Hope this isn't coming off as too strong, I'm just explaining what I know and you're still free to your opinion ofc, I just disagree that PH is a generic monster for multiple people in SH! I also have to disagree with your criticism of the Abstract Daddy; yes it's definitely too much, but that's exactly how Angela's trauma is presented to us and it's very disturbing. It's supposed to be and I don't think we should hide from the horror of it, we are confronting the manifestation of her trauma. You also have to remember that the Abstract Daddy we see is James' interpretation of Angela's monster, not actually what Angela sees of him, so it's what James has clued and pieced together of her trauma subconsciously. Otherwise though, great video!! I can't wait to play this game again lol I've only managed to finish it once (played on Standard, because I'm. Not good at survival horror, lol), can't wait to try it out on Hard and grind out all the achievements. And wow you showed me a lot of stuff in this video that I missed on my first playthrough--especially the cult symbol in the room that James is uncomfortable in in the otherworld!! I completely missed that, that's super cool!

Just started playing it. It's my GoTY too. I believed in it and held hope the whole time. I'm at the Woodside Apartments and the atmosphere is out of this universe. The new combat is good too. I'm really weighing every encounter and dreading every corner. It's been a long time since a game did this for me, and I had to take my time with it and all. It's a little different but I really understand how James must feel. A completely paranoid wreck

Man .... played through the first 3 MGS a few times over the years (and played all of them when they released), and everytime i play them again i think for myself: "Could not anyone JUST REMOVE that Memories about that games so i can play them like its the first time" They are Masterclasses of Gamedesign, Cutscene Production and Storytelling - its a shame what the Game Industry became Great Video!
