Like your work Dibuccio. Cool attitude and love the hat on... in reverse!
@@petersoulsby9276 Ha Ha. You have good taste in style and music. Massive thanks….
That was fantastic! ❤

Thank you! Super helpful!
Ya i have a 69 Gibson Southern Jumbo and although its a great guitar its clunky big
That was shit.
What a lovely looking and sounding guitar for sure! Yes, I sure do want a J45 for sure but I just don't have that kind of money and can't afford it lol. Maybe someday.
Massive thanks for the kind words. Save your money 💰 That’s what I did.
@@dibuccio absolutely! I think it is worth every penny.
The deal breakers for the icon for me are the size. It’s huge and for air travel sets off red flags with gate agents! The backpack straps are too low on bag. I’m only 5 foot 10. I feel like I’m going to bang headstock on doorways!
I completely agree. But as I said in the video, it’s the closest thing to an Incase which sadly left us all too soon. For local gigs, it’s not an issue. As far as fly dates, I check an SKB molded case with wheels. Yeah, it cost $35 each way, but, I don’t have to worry about its safety or arguing with any flight attendants. Solutions for each person…
I fly 100 flights a year and I need my bass when I get there! So my situation is different. I fly with headless basses so they fit in guitar sized gig bags. The Reunion Blues works best for me. Best size, protection ratio for me. It's so rare that I'm made to gate check or check my bass. So far with 100's of flights taken, this is what works best for me. Your checked bag is more likely to be delayed or lost/stolen than damaged. @@dibuccio
Incase. I’ve had one for 20 years, traveling the world. Never had an issue. Great protection!
I have an Incase for my guitar. I’ve had it for ever and done tons of flying with it holding my Jazzmaster. I now am touring with a Yamaha SG 2A that has a very irregular shape. It fits in the Incase but not very well. I’m looking at the Gator G-Icon. It spoke with the Gator people and they said it should work well for that guitar.
Lookin good!!! Diggin that MM in the Gator. Cheers from mtw and 99 in L.A. Jam night jammers
For the strap, just place it on the top of the neck, and lock it firmly with the neck safety strap 😊
Excellent idea 💡
😎Gator 🐊 all the way!!!!
Thorough review and helpful. Good work!
After deciding the Gator Pro-Go Series didn't have enough structural integrity (my only problem with it) I decided to go with the Gator ICON. Incase no longer in production. Reunion Blues too flimsy. One of those things where I wish I could find a case with Built-in PP board and ABS Hollow board for strength like the Music Area AA31. Rubber bottom bout exterior of the Mono Vertigo, interior strap pin bumper and full exterior bumpers Fender FB1225. That's the one I bought for my Modulus Q5- Great bag. Just want something sturdier for the Smith. Most models out there have sufficient storage pockets. I don't try to cram sharp- cornered metal amps and pedals into something that's supposed to protect the instrument from sharp- cornered metal objects. Stupid idea. I have a Pelican 1610 case for that. Smaller Pelican for the IEM/ PLEX/ wireless kit. Issue with the ICON is it needs more lower bout protection, inner lower strap pin bumper, interior bridge and nut/ head stock pads. Not crazy about the hard plastic neck support where you need to be careful sliding the bass in from the top. Near the top of the list is the ACCESS Stage Five Except has no exterior bumpers and is pricey. The ACCESS Stage Three, I have for the 10.4 lb SR5HP, has seen weekly use (not abuse) for five+ years, and looks like new. HIGHLY recommend ACCESS. But the more I think about it, the Music Area AA31 is looking like all around best- in- class. Too much drama over a $250 investment LOL. BTW Great shootout- good info/ presentation. Love the StingRay's.
Thank you for a very comprehensive review!!!
Great video! Thanks for posting! I am on the fence whether or not to purchase the Subway D-800+ or the Subway D-800 like you have. I play mostly blues rock (i.e, early Grand Funk Railroad, early Aerosmith, early Jeff Beck, early Allman Brothers Band, early Humble Pie, early Led Zep, Deep Purple Mk II, you get the picture). I love the "DEEP" switch! So, I am not into the "bright" aspect too much. What do you think would be a "better fit"? More importantly, how is your D-800 doing? Has it ever let you down? Any problems with it so far after gigging? Would you buy it again? Thank you!
They are tuned to D so its not the way they play it
I have been interested in buying an LG2 for a couple of years, but lately I'm concerned about: 1) the weird tendency of the "B" string to detune; 2) Gibson acoustic guitars' reputation for headstock breaking. Neither of those two should be happening on a Gibson and it is difficult to understand why these problems have yet to be corrected by Gibson.
I've used Mono Vertigo for 6 years before. I was great, a little cramped but pretty solid.. until the rubber boots split and cracked pretty badly. Spent most of its days sitting in the closet, which reminded me of the old sneakers crumbling after many years not being used. I've moved on to Gator Icon, so far I'm loving it much better for my Jazzmaster. Just a solid, really protective and roomy with generous amount of pockets.
try to contact Mono, they might replace it under warranty
@@ferexx I did, they’re super great and sent me the replacement, A+ customer service. Then I sold the new case couple weeks after and bought myself Gator Icon cos I don’t wanna deal with the rubber issues in the future again. I love it.
@@themodularmodular glad you sorted it out. so the Icon probably offers more protection than the mono right?
@@ferexx I feel like the Icon has more solid sides and frame, whereas the Mono is more cushion-y if that makes sense. Check out JayLeonardJ’s crazy video about abusing the case, I don’t think I would dare to do it with Mono Vertigo. That video finalized my decision for the purchase.
@@themodularmodular saw that video and it's nuts. thanks for the reply, guess I'll go to the store later to check out the Icon
Good review. Very informative. Thanks.
It looks great! It will be of great use.
Wish I could get an incase at a reasonable price lol
Me too!!!
You still loving your LG-2 NR CW? Did you install a neck strap button? If so, where?
Absolutely in love with it. It’s become my daily driver due to everything from size and ease to play to sound and comfort. And it’s just so inspiring and beautiful to look at. I have not installed a strap button. I probably won’t because I have 2 other acoustic guitars that have them installed and if I want to do a live show with an acoustic, I would just use one of them. As of now, this is becoming my home guitar for writing and recording along with my j45. But, if I needed to add a strap button. I would most likely put it on the back of the neck joint. My J45 came factory installed on the inside of the neck between the body and even though that is accepted as the correct position and doesn’t get in the way. I visually hate the way it looks and I always feel like my hand is going to hit it, even though it never does!
I had a great Gig bag in the 80s and it had a pocket at the top with a chain and steel hook so you could hang it up in the closet or on the rack in the dressing room. A fantastic feature on airplanes as stewardess would hang it in the first class closet they had. Nobody makes a quality case with this any longer. Sad. Oh, it was codura too, tough as nails. You dont get that either.
nice job - thanks
Who is Ratliff, and now u have 2 j45s?
He is a massive Americana Rock artist. The guitar is not a J-45. It’s a small body LG-2. It looks similar to the J-45, but it’s about 1/3 smaller and sounds bad ass!!!
I love that 45 jr. Overpriced IMHO.
Is there a J45 jr?
@@dibuccio cmon man!
@@monkusbee Just kidding… In all seriousness, it’s a killer guitar. Once I played it, it really won me over…
This was so epic, glad I found this excellent breakdown
Massive thanks for the kind words. I’m so happy you liked it!!!
I played a bunch of gibsons today, when I got to this one I couldn't believe how easy it was to play! It's "the one" lol
Did you take it home?
You had me with the KISS shirt~
Ha Ha. That was easy!
@@dibuccio I bet Gene would have loved a stack of Subway 800s & 4x10s in the 70s rather than the 80lb Ampeg heads & 165lb x10s lol Even lazy ass Ace may have helped move them~
Thanks, have one on the way! How do you like the neck?
Massively loving the neck! It feels thick without being big. I’m not sure about the historic V carve, it seems round to me. But, it’s super comfy. I’m loving the guitar. It’s so light and easy to play. Enjoy yours. Let me know how you like it.
Wait, doesn't Sweetwater do some "52 point" check or adjustment thingies? That's a LOT of handling, with opportunity to damage the guitar!
It’s all done by one person to make sure everything is in perfect working order. It’s a very solid safety check which honors both the seller and the buyer. It’s a great process…
So what about the top or from of the case? Is it rigid?
Yes. Not like a hard shell case, but, stiff enough to feel safe. I wouldn’t suggest running over it with a truck 🛻 But, in normal use, beyond sturdy…
@@dibuccio there are videos out there demonstrating the Icon being run over by a car, also some family used it as a sled playing in the snow with a guitar inside. Silly enough, it helped me decide to purchase it.
Yeah !
Just bought a used 2021 standard off reverb for 2000.00. The guitar was set up horrible , almost unplayable , probably the reason they sold it . Took me maybe a half hour to adust the trust rod , file bridge and change strings . Plays and sound beautiful now .
Luv that. Enjoy that guitar 🎸
I got an Incase guitar bag years ago, and I wish they still made them....some of the best money I've ever spent. The Gator Icon looks like a worthy descendant.
Exactly my point. The Icon case is the closest bag that I’ve come across since the Incase in all these years and I really like it. I’m still using the Incase, I’m not sure it will ever die.
@@dibuccio : If you do a search for the Music Area AA31 bag, I suspect that is the company that Incase subcontracted to for manufacture. They're about the same price as the Gator Icon (which I also plan on getting later on). Reunion Blues also makes the Aero model which has a very similar shape. Access and Protec also make similar models.
@@Powerslave214 Yeah, I’ve seen all those bags. There were things that bugged me about each of them. Cheap handles, tight pocket space etc. Gator came the closest for me. I’m really happy with it so far. I think I made the right choice… Let me know what case you decide on…
Im your 1000 view. Good luck, nice job on this
