The serious business of fishing
They were catching hundreds of fish using this simple method - whitebait, bream, cuttlefish, scad.
Watch how these anglers on a French pier used a unique method to catch whitebait (in this instance I think the species was sand smelt). Often fried whole (gutted) and accompanied by lemon, a simple sauce of choice, and bread and butter, these can make for a delicious meal, starter or snack.
Meanwhile, many other fish were being caught using various methods, including black and gilthead bream to bottom fished bait, scad on lures and float - including one of the largest scad I've seen - and cuttle fish caught on squid jigs. Underwater footage showed numerous bream species and a few mullet, and earlier in the day I spotted three large bass on the prowl.

Fishing for Perch using Metal Jigs

I used a small 7 gram metal jig (Major Craft - Jigpara) to catch lots of beautiful perch from the spectacular promenade of the Montreux Riviera, Switzerland. This walkway is a ribbon of paradise along the banks of lake Geneva. At the point, he a strike by a fish, your finger degloving
Great I understand how to pick up the line how to get it off the reel. How do you get it back on the reel when you catch a fish??
There was certainly an abundance of fish of various species, Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. next video will be from a fish-filled Sardinia, with beautiful crystal clear waters.
How much is that rod and reel worth to not only use it in saltwater but to lay it on the sand? Just asking as Hardy is a well known and very expensive brand of rod.
The reel is a Van Staal 150 completely sealed and originally designed for extreme saltwater fishing off the east coast of America where anglers wear wetsuits and swim out to rocks (skishing), completely immersing the reel in saltwater. It's also bailess (I've made a video about it) which is couter-intuitive but incredibly easy to use and minimises components that are prone to breakage. I use it because I wanted something basic, bombproof and good quality. It's not exactly refined like high end reels, but I have complete faith in it. It cost over £500 I think about 12 years ago, but I imagine it's already paid for itself by outlasting other reels I could've bought. As for the Hardy, it just happened to be the exact balance between portability and casting weight I was looking for for multi-use fishing. It's a Marksman Smuggler Spin, 10ft and 5 pieces with a casting weight up to 2 ounces, so I can use it for light ledgering. Maybe around £200 to 300, but I don't recall, except to say I rarely buy rods and reels, but when I do it's usually high end stuff to last. I rinse it after every use and there's no sign of corrosion after all these years.
Which Welsh estuary?
It's a reel for using artificial lures with frequent casting, Not for rod holders
👍
Thanks!
Very enjoyable, a fascinating array of many different species. Thanks for sharing.
It was, there were still other species of bream underneath me I didn't catch. I think I caught a glimpse of a white seabream in some of the underwater footage, and maybe a black bream too. Thanks for your comment.
Try off the rock where the boats dock.
Thanks, been meaning to try that spot. Will have to give it a go...
Another very enjoyable video, the water was remarkably clear. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! The water was also a very nice temperature for swimming. Just the other side of the peninsula was the Atlantic, with very large waves on this day.
👍
Another very interesting and entertaining video, thanks for sharing.
Hi and thanks a mil for your comment and support. A few more coming soon.
When are you uploading some more fishing videos I enjoy watching your stuff thanks
Hi and thanks for your support. I'll be posting a new video shortly.
How does it line up tho when you get slammed and line is running out super fast? I could see it being hard to get it to capture on the roller no?
It's a good point, one that others have made here too. It's never happened to me is all I can say, the line is on the roller a few fractions of a second before the lure has actually hit the water.
Excellent video !
Thanks!
Lovely setup, nice fishing, can I ask some advice when I use lighter braids I seem to get wind knots ! Have used heavier braids for years with no problem (is only a cheap braid so was going to try a better brand ?) any advice much appreciated 👍🏻
Beautiful place to fish and Bass my favourite fish.
One of my favorite fish too!
It's too bad more companies aren't offering a variety of bailess spinning reels, especially for freshwater fishing. Yeah, it's a little more work, but the design is much better overall.
Penn does.
Nicely done mate! It looks like you had a really good session on the North Shore. I hope to be visiting Llandudno for some mackerel spinning fairly soon (Once I hear reports of the mackerel showing there), let's hope that I can have as good a session as you just had! I have to agree that hauling mackerel out on a 15 foot broom stick with a car winch and tow rope while chucking out half a pound of lead and a string of feathers that resemble a set of Christmas decorations is no fun or pleasure at all, by far much better to spin for them on light gear and enjoy the sport!
Stops back ache too! Bottom fishing with pop ups is another great method. Thanks for your comment.
Nicely done ,you've a right well organised set up there ,thanks for taking us with you , Greetings from Wales .ive liked and subd you .
Thanks for taking the time to comment, really appreciate it. Shouldn’t be too long before I post a new video.
Great video and a beautiful location, would really love to get over there and give it a go with our weedless teasers on a soft plastic or top water lure.
Thank you! Sounds like a fun method.
All high end gear and a pot noodle!!😂😂😂
😂
Quality vid well informative n done right 🙏 Very New to this type but putting in effort n time...love that Penn rod
Thanks 👍
This looks amazing, keep on going with the videos man dont give up ill be sure to watch more of your content
A very beautiful video, and a calming one too

No good for me; I'm a righty who also reels with my right.
Hi bud great video, I'm coming to pensarn weekend can I ask is there any bass about on pensarn beach, also what species can I expect to catch,,am I Wright in saying if I go under the barrier on the beach to park can I fish there or is that no good just want to take kids out fishing any help would be appreciated thanks
Wow… the best explanation I’ve seen yet. I have been gun shy to convert my Vanstaal reels over to this configuration. I will have to try it myself on someone else’s reel first.
Thank you! Hope you get to try it out soon.
This is brilliant
Happy days buddy few fish and really good video loved watching it cheers
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it.
hi mate, would a 7-21g rod be ok for trout in rivers/streams on lures??? thanks
Hi, I’d say so, but I’m basing this on what you’re likely to catch in a UK situation. You could go lighter still, but a 7-21g rod might help for slightly larger fish.
Yeah it's just because I want to dropshot for flounder or Pollock in the sea as well. What lures could I use with this rod? I mean i don't think you have to cast far in a small stream so could I just use a small mepps? Also, would a 6ft rod be ok for fishing off rock marks in the sea? Thanks and great vid. Looks so much more fun and easy than bait fishing
Seeing that rod I think I met you last year while lure fishing
Yeah maybe - in the mouth of the estuary? Was nice to fish with you, I remember the session well.
@@anglersbureau yep was low water by the two sand bars , if you fancie a session on the lures just say 👍
im looking at a telescopic trout rod from shakespeare - up to 10g casting, 7ft. if i used this with 4lb line, i know i could catch flounder, but what about pollock and mackerel?? also, whats your opinions on aliexpress lures (cheapo soft plastics)
Thanks, I like this video you made its the one i was looking for and needed. I have selected 'subscribe' in accordance with fishing regulation 1- 2 paragraph 3 specifically states, "credit shall be given to good fishing information where credit is do"
Thanking you kindly Sir!
Lets pray to God to give Her the eternal kingdom of God
Roller ,is the same as a Mitchell 449 reel same roller
What a gem of a video 👍
Thanks very much - it was a gem of an evening.
Great video
Thanks very much.
Wha a lovely view & day, here I am in February at falmouth float fishing off North Quay catching mackerel & gar. Wonderful
I’m envious - lovely part of the world.
What if you get a fish right when it lands before you're able to put the line back on the line roller?
Right before your lure/bait hits the water you use your index finger to prevent more line from coming off your spool.
Also, you should always hold your reel in between your pinky and fourth finger for better line and casting control with your index finger each time you cast.
Excellent video with a well detailed step-by-step explanation of the entire process.
Thanks very much, appreciate the feedback.
Hi did you get veret rods pls? Regards
Once you go bailless, you never go back. Nice video, bud. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work.
Thanks very much!
I was curious about this thanks! Looks cool I can see the draw. I just dont get why theres so few reels with the option and the few like the Van Staal are so expensive!
what plus in bailess ? Usefull technology
After coming back and watching video again I've decided to order the same bag. Pretty much using your setup as template very similar kit. I did consider using a cheaper alternative but ended up grabbing same bag as looks quality, right size and with the extra expandable section for some clothes etc I can potentially use this when going away travelling for couple of days. If need more space can always attach a smaller bag via the straps.
Great, and thanks for the update!
@@anglersbureau Thanks for the vid bud :)
I've fished some cool places but that's stunning. Definitely on my "to fish list." Out of interest, what size Dexter were you using?
It's certainly a special spot. I think the Dexter was 10 grams.
Looks like a nice mark ! Good haul of end tackle beating the cost of living crisis very cool .
That looks absolutely stunning! Lovin the vids, keep em coming :)
