In this video we're getting closer for the first start since the engine was rebuilt in 2010. Then I find out I dont have to break in the cam because the engine is a roller 302, but I still have to seat the piston rings as soon as possible after first starting up the car, but the brake lines and power steering lines need attention...

Removing and installing a new (to me) 1968 Mustang Flaming River Steering Gear Box. The previous owner drove it for about 15 miles before deciding he wanted to convert to rack and pinion on his 67 Eleanor clone. So lucky for me he sold this gear box for a steep discount 👍
Chroming My Own Classic Car Dash Pieces - 1968 Mustang

no propane use a heat gun
the chemical metalization is a very thin proces good job but for interior use
That black paint application was way foo thick, you filled in half the grain.
It looks great! I'll be doing the same thing soon. Keep working on it. Love the video!
@@lescherry458 Thank you!
the gloss and finish on that plastic-chroming process looks pretty darned good. I'm impressed with the results.
If your willing to crome my Buick regal grill lmk man let’s work
Great job of explaining the process! Keep up the good work !
This will be blinding in the sun
Why whispering on the video? Talk up!
@@quickrodsinc.4244 or turn on subtitles 👍 good day
Dude your compressor is so damn loud I can't hear you!
@@richardbelew6812 try turning on subtitles! 👍
The torch sound is drowning out your voice
Almost there… The chemical reaction or process you kept mentioning when flaming the part is called “evaporation “ it’s just removing any moisture from the surface by heating it quickly. I don’t think your black spots are from the paint curing, but it’s possible… maybe try letting it dry for a couple days… and drying outside in the sun should be more than enough heat to cure it as long as it’s 70ish degrees outside. I want to think your black spots are possibly a contaminant of some sort, there was a comment about your distilled water not being distilled anymore because you put it through the metal spray gun … umm how does that person that commented think distilled water is made… it’s boiled… typically in a “metal “ container and the steam is condensed in typically a “metal “ tube … Gheesh , learn something people.
True high purity water is made in systems of high grade, passivated stainless steel and plastics. It will leach out contaminants (i.e ions), from cheaper metals like used in many spray guns. Stick with an all plastic sprayer.
Well. Looks like painting over non dry paint problems.
Try setting the spray bottle to mist instead of stream. Might be part of it.
@@Mark-um7ey the dual spray bottle they provide is not great. I might just buy two spray bottles and use two hands next time.
@CruisinComPTon looks good though.
That is not a 1968. It's pre- 1967.
@@joemanes9798 yes the one I practiced on in the video was from an earlier Mustang, but toward the end I show the 68 bezel and dash pieces.
something in one of your processes isn't being done thoroughly enough or is being done to much.
Might be a better idea to use the flame spreader tip on that torch if you continue with that technique
Pretty sure the flame is taking the place off a baking/drying process that completes off gassing of the paint at about 170* F…
Doing it the hard way

@@Boostedways original
It looks clean, so something is introducing contamination, after the paint. I wonder if it could be the gas in your torch? I was a coating specialist for metal coatings and delamination would occur if we heated with Hydrogen, but Argon alone seemed to clean the part. As someone said below, it could be a chemical acidic reaction that specific gases introduce, or it could be heat alone. IE: the gas combination may be "dirty" and that is introducing contamination.
I used a propane torch which was what the manufacturer recommended. Maybe I did overheat it though.
If you want to talk, turn off the air compressor cuz I'll saw me hear you just the compressor

Nice enough. Have you tried this process with a white enamel pre coat paint instead of a dark color? Maybe the mismatch wouldn't be so obvious then?
I tried with a light gray, but the black still crept up. I might need to invest in a better base coat.

How long did you wait before you sprayed the clear?
@@CedrickWilliams i believe you have to wait anywhere from 12-24 hours for it to completely dry. I would have to look again as it's been a little while
@@CedrickWilliams Thank you!
Be conscious of your thermal changes as you’re going from paint to water to air. Try to keep them all the same temperature.
you need better prep for cleaner outcome.
Hi, nice job, one thing that I started doing years ago is paint things inverted, it works very well. Good luck Rich
Gotta try that
How do you mean inverted? Upside down?
Excellent, thanks for sharing, new sub. Cheers.
How much for me to ship my 74 impala grill to you?!
I agree bro. Can I send my 64 Plymouth fury dash to you. I will take that same work and be happy….
Me too! I would send so many different parts too him lol
Looks great. I'm going to try it. Keep posting videos. I would like to see that air cleaner. I have one for my plymouth i want to modify it .
Distilled water in the metal spray gun is no longer Distilled as it picks up minerals from the metal
How do you think distilled water is made…. Generally it’s boiled in huge stainless steel containers “metal “ then the steam is condensed it huge stainless steel columns “again…metal “ … Ya it was a cheap ass Harbor Freight paint gun , but it’s all either stainless steel or plated or brass .. not gonna contaminate his distilled water… unless it wasn’t cleaned properly to start with. The water is just fine… and still distilled

I think the aldehydes (acids) from the combustion are causing the chemical reaction
Which combustion and what would you recommend? I am in no way a chemist. I just followed directions
When you were using the torch to heat the paint layer you mentioned it caused a chemical reaction I was sharing info with you about the acids produced during the combustion of the torch flame was probably what is causing it I’m not a scientist either but I have worked with combustion gas analysis for many years I learned a little about the affects on the paint coating a job I worked on. I think you did a fine job on your parts if you look at the new remakes the chrome affect isn’t that good I sure you will find your technique of perfection
@@seeveiw Thank you. Using the torch was a suggestion by the manufacturer of the spray chrome when I came to them with the issue I was having. It would be funny if that was also causing it lol. Unfortunately I haven't had time to get back to this, but I'm not done trying.
Can u put link for product plz ty great work btw
angelgilding.com/spray-chrome/basic-spray-chrome-kit.html
It used to be $499 last year, price went up
Nice work!
Thank you!
Which kit did you purchase?
The basic spray chrome kit.
I’ll always take time to applaud a person that is trying. I’ve seen various forms of the chrome process online over the years. Mostly commercialized types. What makes this video important is the genuine human error left transparent for us. No underscoring the importance of this. I figured these processes took more trial and error than many of these videos display. Thank you for both trying and the truth brother! I now know what to expect . I love chrome. Always will.
Thank you and yes there's more than just spraying water and the chemicals. I contacted Angel Gilding and they advised me to use a propane torch a certain way to get a better result, but honestly I had the same result. Still have yet to get back to it because life happens. Appreciate the kind words!
What I don't like and I think it's mostly from the Harley guys is, black is the new chrome. I'm an old guy and still love the chrome. I appreciate the honesty too. We're not all experts but want to try. You are doing great! Keep it up!
I did the same repair however I could not get the brake lights to work after I did it. Turn signals were intermittent also. Did you try it with power on yours and does it work?
I haven't gotten that far. Had to put the Mustang on hold. Trying to get back to it soon! I'll let you know
Why would you fill the oil filter before
If you don't, the car will likely explode leaving a crater on the ground.
