Rollo of Normandy, an enigmatic figure in European medieval history, embodies the transformation from a feared Viking chieftain to a respected ruler and founder of an influential dynasty. Born around 860 AD, Rollo initially gained notoriety as a Viking leader who conducted raids in the Kingdom of West Francia. However, his life took an unexpected turn when, in 911, he accepted an agreement with the Frankish king Charles the Simple, who granted him lands in exchange for protection against future Viking attacks.
