Solo to social ride | Early start, strong winds and good friends.
In today’s video I cycle solo to meet a friend for a beautiful December ride. It was unusually warm for this time of year but I wanted to take full advantage. It was a great ride with stunning sunrises, chasing down cyclists and a great catch up chat with my cycling bestie.
Solo rides are always fun but cycling with others is the icing on the cake.

I headed out for a solo gravel ride in the Culbin forest. One of my favourite places near home. It’s definitely getting colder now but it didn’t stop me heading out to enjoy what turned out to be a great ride. Some amazing trails and calming views. Can’t beat a ride off road. #cyclingvlog #cyclingscotland #solofemale #culbin #moray #gravel #gravelride #cyclinglife #cycle
Family cycle | Speyside way

Last weekend we headed up to Craigelleachie with the bikes and trailer for what turned out to be one of the most beautiful family rides. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the trees were the most amazing autumnal colours. I would highly recommend this route for anyone with families but also a fantastic solo adventure too. #cyclingscotland #cyclingvlog #thulechariot #biketrailer #autumnco...

We set off from Nethy Bridge near the Cairngorms, to take the wee one on a sunny adventure in the bike trailer. One of my favourite gravel routes yet. Incredible views, lovely route and a wholesome family day out on two wheels. #cyclingvlog #cyclingfamily #cycling #scotland #gravel #gravelride #gravelcycling #thule #thulechariotcross

With lighter evenings come later spins. I managed to get away for a beautiful evening solo spin and enjoyed every second. Blossom, daffodils and some sunshine i would almost think its spring! haha. It's incredible what a wee spin can do to recharge the batteries and provide the perfect mental break. #solofemale #cyclinglife #springtime #femalecyclist #cyclingscotland

Solo spin- I’m back on the road!

I can’t tell you how great it felt to be back on the bike outdoors! I’ve been getting back on the turbo after giving birth and squeezing in sessions when I can. So when the weather was actually pretty good and little Alex had had a good morning, I jumped on the bike for a quick solo spin to chat about what the future plans are 😊🚴🏼♀️
Sunny Beach Bike Ride | 32 weeks

We started with a bit of a clothing dilemma... a combination of bump growing ever bigger, and being in denial that September could actually be warm! Off we head to the beach for a cafe stop, to clear our heads and enjoy the sunshine. Thanks again to @CyclingAppreciationSociety for making the decision of which shorts to wear so easy! The best purchase I have made!

Finally getting outside again after weeks of rain. Hills, dogs, fords... you name it, this ride had it all! Things are definitely getting more challenging but it was good getting out and finding some new roads. What's your favourite Sunday social ride?

We abort a snowy gravel ride in Selkirk
Hi Jenny just found your channel! I love Gravelfoyle, great video. Which bike rack is that on the car? I’m on the lookout for a new one, looks neat
Hi Alison. Thank you so much for the lovely comment. Gravel foyle is amazing! Such a special place for gravel. We have the tree frog elite 2 (takes two bikes) and we have loved it!
I didn’t think that anyone bought white arm warmers
Haha!! My hubby wears them as he is ginger and burns so easily. The white helps reflect too. He bought a size to small so hr gave them to me.
@ makes sense
Always a joy to watch.
Thank you 🥰
"catch the rider, catch the rider" ... love that game! 😁😁
We are all guilty of it 😅😅
I’m sure you’ll gain more and more followers, very watchable. Up,up, up!
Thank you. This means so much. Thanks for watching 😊
Another excellent video , well done. Many thanks for giving me a shout out 😊 . Keep up the good work 👏
No problem. It really was lovely to meet you. Thank you so much for watching 😊
It’s amazing no matter how tired you are if you see a rider in front the adrenaline kicks in and I’m 70 but I still hate being passed myself🤪thanks for the great video 👍🚴🏽♀️
It really does. I think we all have a wee competitive side 😅I always forget that once you pass them you still have to keep going at the same speed before you can slow down again. You need to have an acceptable distance before you ease off 🤣
Good winter ride & some great scenery beautifully captured!
Thank you. I’m very lucky to be in such an incredible place. The beautiful winter light really does make everything look even more amazing!
thanks for taking us along on your ride love hearing your stories amidst all the stunning scenery a rest is in order after the long ride well done
Thank you so much. This means the world. I love sharing my mini adventures and stories with you all.
Shrink wrap tubing would work on your glasses. You could add the same size of tube on the other leg to match up. Another enjoyable vlog.
This is a brilliant idea!! I will definitely need to match them up now 😀
You are lucky being able to ride through such great scenary so close to home, thanks for shareing it with us.
Spoilt for choice up here. Never take it for granted. 🥰
Looks great that area👍
It’s beautiful. Never looks the same every time I’m down there.
Love Moray. Lived there 1991 and explored it but that was before I was cycling proper. Still visit though. Hopefully back for Speyfest 2025. Thanks for posting.
It’s nice to hear when people have visited/lived here and liked it. It really has a bit of everything. Glad to hear you will be back up again soon.
Another good video. I managed to get my wife to watch your last video, she enjoyed seeing you all out. The Gopro needs a cover fashioned or a hand warmer attached to it . Cold is a killer on lithium batteries.
Yes!! A wee knitted hood for it would be perfect 👌 I think GoPro need to get accessorising 😅
thanks for the upload glad you had a safe ride scenery was stunning certainly was cold but well worth venturing out to ride those trails nice breeze as a bonus
It’s such a beautiful place. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching ☺️
That's a nice family tour. Scotland is so beautiful, you are spoiled with such a landscape. Greetings from Poland.
I have to agree. Scotland is beautiful and I’m very proud and honoured to live in such an amazing place. I have heard Poland is very nice to but I have never been. Do you have some nice places to cycle or bike?
@@jennycycles I am not in the biking scene, I am hiking. I know we have here in Poland a lot of those trails for mountain bikers.
I do love hillwalking. We have some mountains (Munros) that you can climb here with beautiful views. The west coast of Scotland has some great hikes.
@@jennycycles Last year I walked the West Highland Way and this year the Rob Roy Way. Next hiking in Scotland I think would be the Speyside Way.
@ you will love it!! The great Glen way is another great route. Fort William to Inverness.
Been out the last two days and it’s been freezing (Sunday Monday) I have two bikes a rim brake BMC mechanical and a disc sram etap Dolan. I have to use the BMC in the winter only because the the Dolan is the more expensive bike but BMC is the far better bike 🤣
Hey I like to leave my better bike indoors all safe and away from salty roads 😂 lucky to have more than one bike to have the option. It’s really got cold up here over the last few days.
You looked so happy to be out spinning
It definitely is my happy place 🥰
Fab video it's inspirational to me but I struggle with my solo rides I only sadly do 13 miles on my rides with occasional 20+ 😢 really enjoyed your video tho 😊
Hey Joanne. That’s 13 miles more than some!! You’re doing great. I was a bit nervous when I first started going out for solo rides. I always overthink things but I just started working up the distance and my confidence. As long as your getting out and enjoying the ride, you are doing great x
Another great video, what lovely countryside you have around you. Found your videos on the French Alps most useful before going there myself earlier this year. Thanks.
We are very lucky up here to have such lovely surroundings and a great mix of beaches, forests, mountains, farmland and glens. Never a dull ride here. I am so happy you found the Alp videos helpful. Did you have a good time? I love it there. Stunning views and epic climbs 😍
@ I’m lucky too, being down in the Scottish Borders. Had a great time in the Alps but with mixed weather. Got to do Alpe d’Huez on closed roads as there was a charity event on that day. As you say stunning scenery.
@ I do love the Scottish Borders for cycling. Love Peebles and Tala. We did a crazy snowy gravel ride in Selkirk (see video for how disastrous 😂). Would like to do more that way. Closed roads on the Alp is very lucky! Would have been even more fun.
Hard to drag yourself out, but you’ll rarely regret it.
Absolutely! Just went out today. Snowing when I left but turned out glorious 🙂
Any ride out is a great ride out when your on your bike, all the best!
It really is! Well said 🥰
Just found your channel. Really enjoyed your video. You are not far from me. Looking forward to watch more of your videos.
Aw thank you. Thant means a lot. Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully see on the road sometime! X
Super video, thanks. But, you need mudguards and at least front suspension!!
I do have mudguards but I think one of the great things about gravel rides are going off road and getting muddy!! As for front suspension I think that depends on the type of terrain. Gravel roads are usually ok for gravel style bikes. I guess that’s down to personal preference though. I don’t mind riding without it.
Aberfoyle's popularity for gravel is partly down to it's proximity to Scotland's big population centres. The south of Scotland has extensive gravel riding, From Galloway in the. West, Mabie and Ae forests near Dumfries to the Borders in the east. And if you're not frightened of big wind turbines, the wind forms have great gravel access roads.
All very good points. Now that I live further North, Gravelfoyle is further away. Saying that it’s still worth the trip! You never know how scary a wind turbine is until you cycle under one 😅😅
Sub titles please
In English? Is it my accent? 😅
Thanks for showing the trailer out. I'm in limbo about what to get my son into. We have just come back from cycling around the Netherlands and had borrowed a Couger trailer /koga setup, but then lucky enough to have a child bike seat around Amsterdam too. My partner really wants to get an out n about running buggy but i would love to hear your thoughts on the Chariot cross doing running as well?
Sounds like a great trip away. The Netherlands is great for cycling and trailers like ours is so normal to see over there. We don’t actually use the chariot for running at the moment. You would have to purchase the jogging wheel and accessories separately but I think it would be pretty easy to run with. It’s very light considering its size. When we are away in Mallorca we plan to use it then. I have the Thule Urban glide 2 running pram and have had it since he was born. Moved from the bassinet to the stroller style when he was old enough (only started running when he could support himself). I have seen the Nipper out and about and it’s great for running on most terrains. The Thule Urban glide is limited for really rough stuff when running so I would go for a Nipper or the all terrain Thule. Sorry that’s not the help you were looking for. If there is anything I can help with or if you would like more info on either let me know.
Done it few weeks ago bloody tough all the way from the dam
Good going!! It’s a beautiful but brutal climb. I think the heat made it really hard and there are a few steeper sections. Had you heard of it before?
Yes I been to the alps twice before but never got around to doing it so made a point of doing it this time , we did croix de fer first so was especially brutal and was 1 deg with sleet on top. 😂 saying all that really enjoyed it , preferred the climb to the descent anyway 😂😂
Sounds like you had a great time. It’s funny how as cyclists we love a punishing climb 😅 I’m hoping to get back over again.
@jennycycles if you go again got to do col du solude it's opposite alp d huez cut into the cliffs proper special climb
Ahhh yes!! We have done it. I loved it. When we stay in Alp D’Huez we always look over to it so I said we had to cycle it. The tunnels never had lights when we cycled it. Love Villard Notre Dame and the wee villages. Great wee roads, not a sole on them when we did it.
What a lovely video and family cycle. Looks like you caught the last of the nice weather for that one. Was that the Speyside Way into Aviemore you took? Looks so pretty 😊
Yes it was. It’s such a lovely route. Brilliant weather and views too. It’s been really nice sharing cycling Alex.
Enjoyed the video even though I don’t like gravel riding much. I do go off road occasionally on my cyclocross bike but I really do think mountain bikes are more suited. Keep safe 🚴🏽♀️🚴♂️👍
With the little one we won’t be doing too much gravel unless it’s very smooth (not until he is older anyway!) this track was beautiful and the views were amazing. The weather did help a lot 😅 Thanks for watching even if it’s not your preferred ride 😊
Good to see you all out and about again, great set up! All the best.
Thank you. We have been out and about lots but it’s the first time in ages since we picked up the camera. Thanks for tuning in. More to come soon. 👍😄
You got a lovely day for it.
It was so nice. Not a cloud in the sky!
Great to have you back and everybody’s healthy 🚴🏽♀️🚴♂️👶🏻👍
Thank you. Two more videos coming in the next few days 😊Great to be back
This is great info! Heading Alcudia on Monday & planning on tackling Sa Colobra on Tuesday for first time. Thanks for the information as I’ve been a bit concerned about the count of climbing just to get there but you videos given me the confidence to try it 😊
This makes me so happy! This is exactly why I want to share my videos and my experiences. You can do it and don’t let the decent get into your head. It feels like a long time descending but it’s not as far as it feels coming back up. Enjoy it!
@@jennycycles keep up the videos… this is honestly the best one I’ve watched about it. Any advice for Cap De Formenter lighthouse spin? Planning on doing it two days after SC 🤞
It’s a much easier ride in terms of the amount of climbing you have to do. The first climb at the start is really nice and not too long. You then decent from that climb down the other side with some hair pins but coming back up them is ok. The gradients are not too steep. Then there is a lovely flatter section out. This sections is great for a wee recovery on the way back before climbing back up to the start. From the flatter section there are some wee climbs but very gradual. It’s a beautiful ride and you can take your time. Lots of lovely view points along the route if you need to have a rest if needed. Thanks for the feedback. That’s great to hear 😊
@@jennycycles brilliant advice again 🙏 Is the mirador Ed colomer view point worth stopping at? It looks amazing on RUclips - ruclips.net/video/yNh7TBPucVI/видео.htmlsi=7O0ylhCNRQ9Q1O4E Love your accent, I live near Belfast so it actually sounds quite familiar. Just added u on Strava & Insta in case u were wondering- Ryan Gray.
The other side ( past Drake's bothy) is better, although lots of trees down at the minute
Thanks. I will have to explore that area more.
@@jennycycleswent there today - the Drake's bothy route is fine, the route you did has lots of fallen stuff ( and mud!)
@@ianbradbury6416oh no! We have had some very windy days. Nothing worse than trying to lift a bike over and under trees 😅
Awesome scenery. How long was the ride?
From Alcudia to the lighthouse is about 58km out and back. It’s a beautiful ride and well worth a visit.
Its must feel good passing people on that climb as most are trying their best, not so good being passed😂
It does feel good but every time I pass I give a wee “keep going” or “not far now” as I have been that person getting passed when I started cycling. It’s great to see so much variation in ability on climbs. Kudos to those that it takes much longer to finish, they are cycling and pushing for longer than is and probably pushing harder!
@@jennycycles that's a good point, fair play to anyone riding such a tough climb. I'll be there next year and will be happy to make it to the top, let's see if I can shift a few KGs before then 😂
You will love it! Have a wee look at the strava link of the route. It will give you a good idea of the climbing and distance to get to the actual climb and then the climb itself. It’s a great one!
@@jennycycles thanks, I will do. Great video.
Thank you
Good statement off your Mum👍 I will use that one “ Your Tanks Empty you can’t fill anybody’s elses 👌😎🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
It’s so true and I think we all prioritise everything before we think about looking after ourselves. It’s great to get a wee time to fill the tank and recharge. I always go home feeling great and ready for lots of baby cuddles 🥰
would you recommend those glasses? Are they more for sun or wind/particles?
I would have to say I do love them. Very good value for money. My eyes are terrible with descents and winds! Looks like I have been crying 😂So larger glasses work well for me. They are also really good in the sun.
Thanks! what brand are they?
they are Dhb. But I got them 4 years ago. I know they are in administration now but they may still do them. Worth a check on wiggle or chain reaction.
@@jennycycles Thanks again! Wishing you happy travels :)
One of my favourite places to cycle so many places to explore.
welcome back
Thank you. It’s great to be back!!
It’s been wet cold and windy for what seems like forever in North Yorkshire. It’s got to get better hasn’t it 🌧️🌬️🥶
I’m glad to hear it’s not just up here! It feels like so long since we have had any warmth from the sun 😅 This week is supposed to be warmer so fingers crossed we get some overdue sunshine ☀️ I hope your managing to get outdoors in some form. Thanks for the continued support ☺️
Got to love those potholes!
At least that corner doesn’t have very deep ones…..just lots of them 😅
How does Cap de Formentor compare?
Cap de Formentor is a beautiful ride. Personally I find it’s easier than Sa Calobra climb as it has some easier gradients and flat sections in between the hillier gradients. Cap de Formentor also is easier to get to. So you don’t have a few climbs to get down before you take on the climb like Sa Calobra does. In terms of views, the Cap is right alongside the ocean on one side. Looking down onto crystal blue waters. Sa Calobra starts at sea level (after the descent) and you climb up through the mountains and cliffs. Both are beautiful rides.
@@jennycycles Thanks! I did Formentor last year, and the Soller loop. Going to do Sa Calobra, this year.
Enjoy it! Like every climb it’s just about pacing. You will love it. The decent seems long but don’t let it get to you. The climb is fabulous 😍🚴🏼♀️
Awesome ride. How long is it and how long did it take you? Thanks.
It is 10.1km long, 654 vertical meters with an average gradient of 6.5%. The steepest section is 12.9% it’s a great climb and very enjoyable. The average gradient makes it very doable and you can achieve it under an hour 👍is it one you are hoping to do?
I should say that the above stats are for the Sa Calobra climb from the bottom up to the top. It does not include the cycle to get there.
Another great wee video to watch. Nice when you recognise the people and the places. Can’t believe you caught your Mum and Dad on camera too
Thank you. I love seeing other cyclists on the road and saying hello, even better when you know them 😅🤣 looking forward to riding with you gain soon!
Once again, enjoyed this video. 👏 for Adam the cameraman too 👍
Not the best weather but still a fantastic ride. It’s amazing what’s just on the doorstep ☺️
