      2003 at the moment of writing this 😄 I’m on a taller side when it comes to table tennis. This has 2 natural consequences: (1) it’s harder for me to move around quickly and (2) I have got a naturally bigger swing on my shots as my arms are longer that adds to the power. So I guess you’re right! So, I was lazy to move around so I went for big shots instead - too bad they didn’t tell me 2100s can block them 😄

After that the game felt equal and I won third set and lost 4th set from 8-8 to 11-8. That was an interesting and useful experience. Sir Dewitt has a wealth of experience and understanding of the game and is a lot of fun to play against. He actually was 2490 or something really close to 2500 once. Sadly time is passing and he can’t move and play as he once could, but his game understanding coupled with amazing ball feeling still lets him beat guys like me 😄 and remain above 2100 at his age, which is quite remarkable

      Thank you! It wasn’t that easy though 😄 in fact I’d say it was much harder than it looks! because (1 - technical) a lot of effort goes into making high quality shots that earn me those points (not only physical, but subconscious analytical and decision-making work to first figure out what spin and how much of it the incoming ball has and then choosing a shot and direction) and (2 -psychological) it was the first real opportunity for me to win a tournament outside my home club, so I didn’t quite have the comfort of “just another walk in the park” and was just trying to not lose the focus I had. Point (2) is particularly difficult as I failed to do that in my recent tournament at Princeton pong where I lost in semis of u2100 there leading 11-7,11-7,10-8 eventually losing in 5 sets…table tennis is hard… 😫😄 but fun! so I am happy that I managed to win it that time and not taking it for granted

      находить оптимальное расстояние от стола, не слишком близко, не слишком далеко, учитывая мой рост; сильно не размахиваться справа, сделать удар более компактным; слева сократить махи кистью, опять же выполнять удар более четко и компактно, стараться больше задействовать предплечье; не опускать ракетку сильно вниз в открытом розыгрыше, так как там почти все мячи с верхним вращением, которые не нужно поднимать снизу, а нужно играть "пОверху"; при переходах слева-направо и справа-налево больше использовать повороты ногами и стараться сохранять "связанность" корпуса, ног и руки.

      It all depends on the level of a particular person you are playing against. In real matches of professionals - yes, this almost never happens. It happens a lot in the matches of beginner amateurs though, and quite frequently on the intermediate-advanced to semi-pro level. So, in my matches I personally get that quite often and this training was useful. The focus of this training session was on better understanding the concept of lifting the underspin (as it turned out) and playing the successive rally after the opening is returned (which was originally the main thing for me there).

    Hi. So I'm curious why she told you to use less wrist during the backhand stroke? Was it so you just concentrate on the under arm movement and to get the tight timing there first? Because the more "tutorials" and trainings I personally watch, the more I realize how different the tips are from each coach. From almost no wrist to very heavy wrist usage.

    • @chyngyzdavletov214
      @chyngyzdavletov214 Месяц назад

      Thank you for your question! She told me that because my wrist was too loose and, hence, less consistent, harder to control the contact with the ball. Using more forearm helped stabilize it and increased consistency. I still will be using my wrist in certain situations but I have now a better sense of how to control it in a rally game. Techniques vary person by person, so for me it was “use less wrist”, while other people might involve it much less if at all on backhand, so they are told to use it more. It all depends on your technique. I think the better you feel the ball the more you can involve your wrist on bh, because it adds quite a bit of power to the shot, but should be controlled.

    Вот вроде норм всё с синхронизацией ног-корпуса-руки на фх-топсе, но рука идёт не по-китайски далеко от корпуса и её как-то много в том числе в локте, из-за чего создаётся ощущение шлепка, а не удара. Плюс в конечной фазе ракетка по-советски идёт к противоположному плечу, а должна ко лбу, из-за этого на заваленных ударах из локтя идёт ненамеренное обратное боковое вращение

    • @chyngyzdavletov214
      @chyngyzdavletov214 2 месяца назад

      Thank you! It all depends on your current technique. Normally people find it easier to lift underspin with FH than BH, I think, mainly because of wrist. For FH it's often enough to get by without involving wrist when lifting underspin because the overall swing on FH compensates for that, but on BH you gotta involve more explosion and also bigger swing in the wrist, because there's not as much of a natural swing when hitting BH. And since it's harder to control wrist for consistency, people feel more comfortable with their FHs. I'd say try involving more of wrist on BH against underspin and finding that consistent feeling when wrist is not too loose and not too fixed. My wrist is too lose on the video, so I was told to control it more. To one of my friends she told the opposite, so it all depends on particular person's technique.

      @@chyngyzdavletov214 Appreciate the detailed response! That's exactly my experience with my forehand. It feels easier likely because I don't use any wrist. Looking forward to more content :)

      I guess when playing the point, all resources go into trying to win that point and everything else gets cut off, including making smart noises :D

    keep the spring in your legs when you are doing backhand practice (around 6:41), like shocks in a car.
