The Edwin Morgan Centenary online #EdwinMorgan100

The official channel of the Edwin Morgan Centenary, celebrating the life and work of Edwin Morgan.
Hold Hands Among the Atoms (the title taken from the cycle of seventy ‘social poems’ Morgan wrote for his 70th birthday in 1990), features elements of the Edwin Morgan Centenary programme originally planned for the public programme of #EdwinMorgan100, alongside new material created especially for this medium.
The Second Life (the title taken from Morgan’s breakthrough 1968 collection), is the centenary artist grant scheme for #EdwinMorgan100. The Second Life grants supported by Creative Scotland, The Edwin Morgan Trust and the Saltire Society.
Launched on Monday 27th April, 2020 which would have been Morgan’s 100th birthday, the channel brings together diverse voices and perspectives from across the globe to celebrate the work and life of Edwin Morgan.

The Ruined City (Trailer) – Joey Simons
Supported by the Second Life Awards, Joey Simons will create a psychogeographical film that uses the poetry of Edwin Morgan and the nineteenth-century pedlar poet James Macfarlan (1832-1862) to investigate and critique the latest phase of urban redevelopment in Glasgow.
In his poem ‘The Ruined City’, Macfarlan presented an apocalyptic vision of ‘the dust of perished things / that form the city’s blasted heap.’ A century later, in the Glasgow Sonnets, Morgan undertook his own battle with the complexities of a place caught between life and death. Macfarlan’s vagabond figure, ‘smelling of whisky but lucid, intense’, haunted Morgan’s politics throughout his life, the slum dweller’s challenge ...

Listening to the commentator imagining ways in which this video could have been better is so saddening. This archive is a credit to history. The capture of Morgan’s character is incredible and real and there is not much more a director could hope to capture. Thank you very much for the response, it was a pleasure to see Edwin in this way.
