😢😢 I miss city, unfortunately I'm here in Texas😢
great display
This really needs to come back.
This is my first time ever seeing this but Philly is my birthplace. Back in the 60’s my older sister took me to the Franklin Institute and Museum of the Arts many times. Thank you so much for the memories of the happy times I had there as a child. This was such an awesome experience to view! Thank you so much!
This is horrible, and racist
Anyone else here because of the news that the "Omniverse" IMAX theater at the Franklin Institute is closed for good? 😢
Over a decade ago (and before this particular video was posted here), I emailed Jeffrey Berry to ask about the lyrics in the song playing over the cheesesteak scene. He said that it was written and sung by Bob Farnsworth, and some of the lyrics are: PLENTY OF ROOM FOR EVERYBODY PLENTY OF ROOM COME ON COME ON. PLENTY OF ROOM FOR EVERYBODY MOVE OVER AND MAKE SOME MORE ROOM. So in case you were also wondering this for a long time, now you know!
Didn't they show this at the Franklin Institute. If so I definitely remember this from my school trip.
My fave performance of the string bands in the Mummers Parades. Although I've missed most of the performances in the past 5 years.
what is that opening block, is it delancey street?
This is a core memory. The coolest film experience I ever had as a kid. And it stayed amazing every time I got to see it.
Your Theme Is ya'll Don't Know Dixie
Your Theme Is Make Is Wish
What Is Your Theme
I watched this on a field trip to the Tuttleman Omniverse theater when I was in 6th grade on their 4 story wrap around screen 😊
I Remember That Theater! Best One In Philly!
It's interesting to see how much the city's skyline has grown over the last 30 years, this was back when Philly was just starting to get taller buildings after One Liberty Place broke the gentleman's agreement in 1987 and you can see the other 600ft+ buildings under construction. Must've been an exciting time in the city while it was finally starting to get the skyline it deserves
Where is that at 3:05???
0:10
Doesn't it make you sad? All the kids who were born too late and will never know the experience of seeing this on the IMAX dome. Never know what it was to go into the feature attraction fresh off a chorus of "Who say, who say, who say ain't no room?" "Philadelphia Symphony" was for pansies! Every second you watched that poser movie was a second when you would think, "They're not gonna sing 'Plenty of Room' in this movie. This movie sucks." The institute should have said, "Sorry, we made a mistake. We're bringing back 'Anthem'. That other short film will just have to move over and make some more roo-OOOOOOO-oooom!"
One of the unique things about the string bands is that they have played every genre of music. Been watching the New Years performances every year and this one has a great combination of comedy, cuteness and excitement. I love it.
Haven't seen this in decades and it still rocks!
This was pure magic to 8 year old me! Thank you for posting, brings back wonderful memories of visits to the Franklin Institute.
pathetic
Your pathetic why are you here
Can anyone tell me who is singing "Holy Spirit" starting at around 3:30 and which church she is in? SO GREAT!
Is the “move over” song an actual record or original music for this video?
Hi! I asked this on another RUclipso f the video and a nice person told me it's from an album by Jodi Bensomnand the song is called 'Plenty o'Room." It's on RUclips :-)
Wait did anyone else catch the pokemon center theme?!
I lived there from '88 to '94. There was a great vibe in the city around this time. You can feel it in this short film. There was lots of growth downtown---the nightlife was incredible. I miss those days. My old neighborhood has changed quite a bit---whenever I'm there visiting, I feel like a ghost walking around. Good times for sure.
I never could stand the mummers they suck. They are corny. My high school band was better than those grown man child scrubs. The mummers parade ain't nothing but a bootleg Caribbean Carnival smothered in spoiled mayonnaise. A major waste of city resources and tax dollars. Adds nothing to the city just one big waste of ear and eye space.
LOVE the high definition quality! Clearer than any mum video I've seen. I noticed it right away watching Fralinger. Do you have other years with this clarity?
Does anybody know how to map this to VR? Edit: I guess the resolution would be disappointing.
2:41 right at this part, as a little kid I always got this visceral sensation that I was going to fall out of my seat, into the screen!
If this was filmed in 70mm IMAX, will there ever be a 4K digital master made? I'd LOVE to see it that way.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS OPENING! Even when I came to the Tuttleman thearter to see the specific IMAX special they had playing at the time - I was still MOST pumped for this opening!
I must have watched this a dozen times at the Omniverse as a kid. They played it before every main film and it was always my favorite. It made me so proud to be from Philly and it always got me so pumped with pride. To this day I occasionally get the song "Philadelphia. Do you have a place for me" in my head.
what a idiotic fool'
Thank you for posting! I was saddened when the Franklin Institute stopped playing this piece before IMAX films. Can anyone identify the gospel soloist who brings down the house starting at 3:12? Is that Charmaine Ford and is she in Philadelphia? And I'd love to know who is performing, starting at 4:20 "Let me tell you now--Who said, who said, who said ain't no room?" and if it is possible to get the lyrics and a recording of that incredible performance! (There are credits at the end but I've never been able to extract information about this song there there.)
I've been looking for this song my whole life too!
@@elliottmiller3282 It's Jodi Benson's "Plenty o'Room" and you can find it on RUclips. :-)
@@suefrank8184 Thank you so so much. You've ended a multi decade search
This is great. Born and raised in south philly and went to school in center city. We would go to the franklin institute for field trips and I remember getting so pumped up to see this cause it played in front of any movie or whatever we were watching and u actually felt like u were flying. If ur from Philadelphia this video will make u appreciate it that much better. I watch it all the time. Thanks for the upload
Yes sir lol Born and raised in overbook I remember this so well good memories
Where is that at 3:05
I enjoy watching the mummer's stringbands.
What an awesome moment in history! Cheers to Billy Rhoda and the "Bass Sax Section."

This ain't no menstr'al show. WTF! Great music for everyone. Read the title!.
We are so very lucky to have the Overbrook String Band play for Lansdowne's Red, White and Bluesy. A fundraiser to benefit July Fourth in Lansdowne! They are the best! Thank you Bob Herre and thank you Overbrook!
Thanks for this! I've looked long and hard to find a way to see this again. Love the song at the end--"Plenty o'Room"!
