Custom Splitter, Diffuser, And Rally Sill Jacks! | Home Built Porsche Race Car Ep.23
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.3 месяца назад
This time we build a splitter, a diffuser, rally style pin jacks and some good ole rust repair. I'm hoping to generate at or over a 1000lbs of down force with this aero package which sounds to me like a great time... great time attack! This Porsche 914 is leaving the realm of sane, normal and done before for a foray on the wild side.

This time on ziptied we are getting close to a first drive! so its ticking little things off the list until very soon we get a good result. I also install laser cut brackets, removal chassis braces, plumb the clutch and everything brakes from pedal to the caliper... but not the caliper. Those are stock, but good enough for now. Enjoy... or else.

Tube Chassis Race Car Build Pt.7 Big Wing Install!
At 1:22:54, I was driving in the blue Miata. I didn’t mean to brake check you guys, I literally couldn’t see from my window fogging so badly and wasn’t looking in my mirrors at that moment. Our defroster was barely keeping up so I had about a 2 inch gap at the bottom of our windshield that I could see through, so I was slumping down in the seat to see the flag station. Additionally I was looking for any cars, but yeah wasn’t intending to brake check you guys like that. The guys were watching your stream as it happened, but they were having a blast watching it!
She was moving there for awhile, ripping around in the rain, not sure what happened after you pulled in,but it wasn't the same. Awesome car, owned the track for a bit and yesterday
Just a driver change haha. We had no issues on Sunday
if you put a 45 degree on the back if the sign, and a little bend on the lip of the leading edge you will reduce the low pressure behind the box, and stop/severely dampen the oscillation in the hood.. plus a peice of 1/4 inch box tube on the inside as a brace would help too. metal fatigue is a thing..
I’ve thought about it or just removing it all together. Tbh its just one piece of a laundry list of aero issues on that car
She rips despite the sign on the hood telling you otherwise!
Here before this channel blows up- your builds are freaking sweet!
Hopefully one day..
Air shifter DEF needed! Cool tho
Brilliantly bonkers!
When you said you were trying for 143+MPH, I didn't realise you were trying to do it on a drag strip. I thought you might be doing the old 3 mile dash down an old air strip...But it's all good either way...Check the parameters of the actual record.
Its averaged over a 100m distance so i can do it at a drag strip given its fast enough
The important thing is that ya lived to tell the tail. That sucker is seriously cool. Can't wait for more Porsche goodness.
Yes more porsche stuff. Also clutch shifting was really getting you. Should have just been lifting off throttle and yanking the shifter. Good job keeping it straight though!
It wasn’t behaving when i tried it, its why i missed the shift on the first run. Air shifter will just do it for me
I’m absolutely loving this build series. I’m having fun just looking at the car and can just imagine what an absolute riot it’s gonna be when finished (like it’s ever truly ”finished..”) 😅
Love to hear it thank you! It’s about to get a whole lot more done in the next 12 months so watch out!
Highly anticipated updates!

Hell yeah
Heaven yeah We want positive thoughts
Man , i love watching you do your thang bro!!! Always the smartest, youngest, quiet kid in class at UTI. Pretty soon youll be on motortrend!
Who is this? Its hard to know through usernames. I certainly wasnt loud but im not sure id credit myself with quiet. But maybe if i had my way….
@@ZipTied my name is Erik mendoza i was probably the only young bald one in most classes. You had given me some Ziptied decals for my honda . What is meant by quiet was that you wernt obnoxious like most of us were. You were locked in. From my perspective! Idk if you have merch going on but id love to buy some.
More hardcore than the Porsche
They are currently both unhinged but I believe you are right
Craziness 👌👌👍👍
Commit me
That thing is sick…um turbo?😃 and how come your not building 3 second 8th mile drag cars? I think I know who you are ?
…nitrous. I have build 3 second cars but as far as things go its not my cup of tea. Fun to work on, but i can’t afford to own
@ZipTied Yea i can't even comprehend the amount of money it would take anyway don't want to take up to much time love the content
what a great creation! i wonder how it would feel like cutting grass with it, trying to keep the speed low so you don't fly over the grass :)
It can maintain about 5mph clutch out, which is a bit fast for grass. If you dont mind changing the clutch once per lawn it can be done. Also turning radius is terrible mixed with no reverse gear. Tldr its a damn task.
Proper ppe!😂 flip flops?shirt as a mask? Youre killing me!😂😂😂😂😂
Holding it down for my boys out in taiwan
How do you not have a shitload of more subscribers dude?
Love the plywood, great idea, and affordable
Nice diffuser, horizontal expansion also makes it less sensitive to height and angle changes which is good for consistent downforce.
Very true!
Do we know what it weighs?
Weighed it like 5 episodes back but idk what it is now. Still less than 2000
Look good 😎👍
Masterful. Really skilled and love the progress.
the workpieces for the door jams and quarters were impressive, ngl
Thank you! They were about an hour each of shrinking and stretching, well see how good they actually are once the doors go on. But thats why i didn’t fully weld them.
Fantastic as always! If you keep the length on the front splitter, it could also double as a picnic table…
I was thinking a nice shelf at least, i like an oak for my picnic tables.
😂
absolutely love this build series what an achievement building your own custom race car from the ground up! Inspiration to us all!
Get to building all ready hahaha!
Nice video, it's coming along really well.. We put small tungsten blocks underneath on the outer edge of our front defuser. as a rub plate..... Nothing to do with a shower of sparks looking cool as it's hammered into a corner..
I was gonna do titanium once my second mortgage goes through haha
I'm curious as to why sheet metal panels welded to the frame get only strips of weld opposed to full seam welds that the tubes get.
They are non structural, more welding may make them warp and once powdercoated any gap between panel and tube will be filled. Having built promods, this is how they are done. (They do sometimes bolt the panels in)
@@ZipTied makes perfect sense. Got to learn something new
Also a full seam of weld that developes a crack will continue to crack along it’s entire length whereas a seam weld will stop where the seam ends. Plus a seam welded panel will have like 90% of the strength of the fully welded panel with 50% of the welding and time.
So awesome. I'm digging on the aero components. I have seen a plywood defuser on at least one other racecar... Side note: Dad recently informed me ( he got it from some TV show ), that zip tie etiquette states, "when someone asks for a zip tie, always hand them 4 and a set of side cutters."... 😂😂😂
Thats why i have no zipties at my house, im burning through 4 times more than expected
plywood is a pretty common material for splitters and diffusers, being perishable and easily replaceable
Yeah, I am debating using wood on one of my builds to protect the carbon splitter. It's good enough for race cars 😆
My dad and I debated running hard wood, replaceable rails under one of his builds, to protect the aluminum underbody. We ended up not, but it's still a consideration.
I am so impressed by your work!
Thank you!
Always fantastic demo/vids and info. I will be using much from your videos on my 914 V8 refresh. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your next upload.
Any questions feel free to ask
Keep up the good work bro, truly inspirational
Inspiration is what im going for
Love the build! I’m doing an EJ25 into a ‘72 Super Beetle. Having trouble w/the oil filler tube and the vw eng bay. Your fill tube at 3:41 looks like it has the right bends where it may fit my application. What year/model EJ25 is yours? EJ257? Thx!
Believe they are for my heads ej20 like 02-05
Wow some wide tyres on that thing 😍
Could be wider.. maybe one day
How the heck is this channel SO UNDERRATED!! I juat found it today and im already like 10 videos deep 😅 just had surgery yesterday so this has been great for new content
Glad i could be of service!
700 pounds of down force at what speed? Thats wild
150 which is around the top speed of this thing
oh man is that a 914? looks awesome.
Yes indeed!
Can you tell your source for the studs and wheel spacers?
Rennline sells both. Very good quality but not necessarily cheap (not that thats a place to cheap out)
Yeh another video from Zip Tied. I should probably save it for later but...... I'm just going to watch it now... Cool lights, like the simple operation, less to go wrong.... Get some protective socks to cover the lower threaded part of the dampers. Cause the threads get hammered with gravel. Suspension... cool wheels and tyres... cool
The bottom can get damaged without an issue as ill never adjust it in a range that currently sits outside of the clamping area. Cool is good tho!
@@ZipTied Yes it is....
How does this channel only have 3k subs? Looks mint bro
Inconsistent uploading will do wonders
I only just discovered your channel 😍 I am building my dream V12 supercar with the OG zonda engine 😎
@@ZipTiedyour uploading once per month quite consistently 🤔 Keep up the good work 👍
Love it!😊
Im still thankful for you saving me on the mountain that one day!
awesome progress, love the shiny new parts. although I must say: YOU SPENT WHATNOW ON SHOCKS?! lol. fiy: your tire tread is on backwards ;)
I knew someone would comment that! Theyll come off and on probably 100 times and then get slicks that are non directional so i dont make the mistake later.
Fantastic work, Love the lights
Popup gang
They look great 😍
Ohh fuq yes its coming together
Finally! Oh I’ve been waiting for new episodes😊 so interesting, planning to start my build of my Porsche 356 replica this fall with Porsche 944 suspension and subaru engine. So this is my sort of manual how to😎
Sorry for the delay. Next episode is also porsche, so that will be good.
Nice 😍 I am working on a V12 build 😎
Awesome video! That's going to be so cool? Best!
I sure hope its cool?
