817 400 SBC Long Block Comes Together
Well I finally had the time and all of the parts finished for the 400 SBC build. It's had the bottom end balanced and running all Eagle/Keith Black components. The top end are FloTek 200cc Hydraulic Roller design that have been port matched with the Assault Racing, now Wilson Racing intake that has been modified by us in several ways. I can only estimate, but with the Flattops and 64cc chambers, I would say 550hp and tq. It's only a guess but I bet it's close.
Thanks for following along. It's been along time collecting parts to get to this point! 👍

The Little House on the Prairie in Southeast KS

This is the original Little House on the Prairie location and a recreation of the house that Laura Ingalls Wilder grew up in. I don't think it's the original structure, but it is in the same location as it was in the 1800's. It is about 8 miles from my house. 🙂

DSM Throttle Body Shaft Seal Install Tool

Since I had a chance to be the "test dummy" for this super nice seal install tool, I made a video showing how good it works. It sits the seals nice and flush and is made of nice HARD material. On the second throttle body that you see in the video, I installed MilSpec seals. They are encased in Metal and require you to use a hammer to tap them in. A couple medium taps and those went in super goo...

Main Stud Girdle on the 400 Small Block Chevy

Fitting the Main Stud Girdle to the 817 block and clearancing it for the crankshaft throws. The crank was striking it in a few places where the crank throws come up and meet it. After much customizing and back and forth to the angle grinder, it now rotates free and clears all of the crank throws. The next obstacle will be seeing if the Eagle Connecting Rods clear it, or more clearancing will be...

Just what I needed.
Okay I noticed mine was leaking so I tried to salvage it but it’s leaking again so I’ll try this out
@rhdtv2002 it won't leak anymore 😂😎 I still have the "waterwheel" but I never did reinstall it. My refrigerator has not given me any issues since 👍
@ I’m going to do it here at home within the hour. I’m so sick of this dam water leak. It’s messed up some of my wooden floor
@rhdtv2002 it was playing hell with mine to. It's no longer perfectly flat. The grandkids showed me how a ball rolls on the floor now 😪 Don't forget to turn off the water supply first, lol. Good luck and Merry Christmas 🎅
@ thanks. Let’s go fix this thing
@rhdtv2002 if I were close, it would be done and we would be drinking a cold beer! 🤣
This fixed mine too! We have spent so much time trying to get the part. I have a Kenmore Elite
@philhaverdink3947 Glad I could help in any way possible.
Very cool, thanks for sharing
How do I remove the part? It is very tightly connected to the blue part and I can't take it off even if I force it.
@Blueberry_bear1 pull the retaining clips, push IN, HOLD the inner sleeve in and pull the water line off, its like a Sharkbite fitting. The flow meter is attached with a metal strap that you need to snip.

Thanks so much. Mine started leaking and went to find part and it no longer exist. Glad I decided to look it up and see if anyone else had this issue. Agian thank you

Good driving
You’re going to want to upgrade the latch. I have the same thing and it can easily be pulled apart. I added another latch on the top and bottom.
Thank you for this! My 1 year old Criterion fridge is leaking from the same thing. My service guy was at a loss on what to do. I contacted Criterion directly and they have been bought by Midea and confirmed there are zero parts available. I was wondering if I could just bypass the flow sensor/meter and your video just confirmed it. Awesome information, thank you again!
@DyscoJen Thank you for taking the time to watch the video. Any help I can be makes me smile 👍😊
Very nice bud
That is my paint marker for marking the girdle in the spots that had interference. I use that marker on my fasteners to show i have torqued them and don't have to check them again. It does look weird but it's just a paint marker. Thanks for watching, I decided that the girdle would be no more helpful than a good set of ARP Main Studs so I changed course on the bottom end. Pops

@treychastain4686 You are certainly welcome and thanks for watching me try to do my best at describing the issue and fix! Appreciate that!👍

@yoda3549 But you can't repalce a life or the facts! Stop the video and read the log, he is a lier. WILLARD I'll never let that happen again without a report. I wish I could thank the driver behind me that saw it all and stopped the driver for me to get 👍
Thanks for making the video. I had this same exact issue and you helped me to solve it.
@amans19 That was my whole reason for doing the video, so folks don't have to pay alot of $ just to replace that thing, IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. My repair man couldn't find a replacement part. Thanks for following along, I appreciate it! Marty
Come on Mr. Wilson... Stop being a tease with these short videos. Id love to see you do a build break down and a few rips.
@eatmorechicken1064 I really wish I had the time. That is something that's not on my side. My Ole body is breaking down, unfortunately. I've built cars since 1978, it has taken it toll on me. I get a few hours of work done then I'm hurting so I have to stop. It's the same reason I just retired. Can't do it like I used to but thanks for the encouragement 🙏 🙂 When the car is finally tuned, I can give more content 😎
@eatmorechicken1064 I did get one breakin drive done yesterday. The motor only has, maybe 5 hours and 50 miles max so far. My recent tune adjustment made the car respond better, but it is in NO WAY "TUNED". I'll need to hire a pro (the tuner I prefer is KJ). Then the car needs to go to the track for a time slip.
Have you seen the tuning pull video? I'm getting closer ???👍

How much vacuum pressure should be applied?
@renejacques8288 as much as it will hold. Most vacuum pumps max out around 28 hg. Under deceleration, your engine would see around 28-30 hg of vacuum so don't be afraid. 👍
Yes, but it's not a vacuum port. It is the crankcase breather. It can have a breather filter, be ran back to the intake, to a catch can or ran as a "snot tube". Good catch, thanks for watching!!! More to come FOR SURE!!! 😊
Is that an open port that’s missing a vacuum line on the top front of the valve cover?
Today I saw a water underneath my refrigerator same as yours, that is the second time happened in same part!!! I called them and they came and changed the refrigerator !!! because it was under warranty, now the new one same problem but I don’t have warranty on it, however, it’s useful video thanks
@@mohammedkanan1964 I am glad it helped out. I was puzzled until my repair man came out. 👍
I tried calling Flotek's customer service for answers about this since their website says "contact us about 400 sbc". Never heard back from them after numerous attempts. I found out more from your video than I ever could from the people that make and sell these heads. Thanks for posting!
@silverstreak232 Thank you! That is why I made the video. That sucks you can't get ahold if them because I have another 400 SBC that I wanted a set of their 200cc Hydraulic Roller heads too. If I am able to get ahold of someone, I will post it here. Thank you again :)
I received a call back from Flo Tek today, concerning another set of heads only 200cc's. I was sad to find put they don't make a set of 220's with STRAIGHT plugs. The service representative (thanks again Stephanie) and I both agreed that they need to expand that line to include straight plug options, not just angle plug, which burn up my Camaro plug wires. Call them back and leave your name and number like I did. Good luck l! This was on 9/4/2024 Marty
Those 700 are pretty nice
@ricardo5822 I thought the 500HO was nice, then I came across this 700 and it surprised me. The dam thing will do 65mph. Too fast in high for my grandkids, so I put it in LOW and let them have fun. The 700 is definitely more powerful and I didn't realize it was a twin until I was under it putting in the new rear driveshaft. 🤦♂️
exactly what i needed, i have the same problem and couldn't find the part.
It is a real easy work around once you look at the back and the components! 🙂 Glad I could post a helpful video!
My first car was a 71 GTO with a "400 small block". It never fails if i post those words some "experts" will immediately post the comment that there is no such thing as a "small block" 400. All ,400 blocks to them were the same size and there was no such thing as a "big block" 400 i guess. Im not sure what these youtube experts call a 396 or a 454. They just dont like the words "small block" added i guess..
Well, you know it when an "expert" says "There's no such thing"! BS, I have 2. A 509 casting and this 817 casting, both good 2 bolt main blocks that make a ton of torque! Horsepower isn't everything (but I like it).😎 Thanks for following along! Pops
@@martywilsonwilsonenginesho7940 Did Chevy ever use the 400 block in anything? I think the 400 was a GM block for Pontiacs. I never heard anyone say they had a 400 Chevy engine.
@@martywilsonwilsonenginesho7940 I thought I said "RUclips expert" that was what I meant .🙂
@seetheforest From 1970 to 1980 you could get them in pickups and big cars like the Impala or Caprice or a Wagon. 👍 When I look up parts, it is for a 1978 C30 One Ton Pickup. They also can be found in RV's.
@@martywilsonwilsonenginesho7940 ok that makes sense I just don't think I ever saw one as far as I know. Everything was a 318 or a 350.
If I was building a Chevy that a good starting point. 👍

Hi! I'm guessing I could use something like this to delay a second electric fan? What I would want is to have two fans connected to the same thermal switch, but not having them to start at the same time, not to have too high of an amp draw at that given moment. If the first one would start at the right temp I think it'd suffice for the second one to start 5s later. Any ideas? Thanks!
You could do that with the delay timer being started by the first fan, then however long later you set the timer, it could energize the 2nd one. Thanks for taking the time to follow along!
