    Republicans tend to be fine with the government collecting their data when it is a republican in charge. I have found modern republicans to be fine with discrimination and surveillance as long as it is against people they disagree with.

      @@ZcashMedia I guess your right, though I cannot think of any big privacy breaching legislation passed by Democrats in the last 70 years or so. Only big ones that come to mind are Truman making the NSA, and Roosevelt making the FBI, but that was back in the 50's and 1900's respectively. Where as the Republicans got the Patriot Act, PRISM, American Privacy Rights Act of 2024, and all the Republican Legislatures trying to pass laws to keep people in their state from getting health services outside of it. When I look to see what the democrats are trying to do recently, it appears they are trying to strengthen privacy laws in ways that make it more difficult for government and businesses to surveil you. If you have any examples of legislation that democrats have passed or introduced that does breech privacy, please enlighten me of it. I get your point, when it is your party that is doing things to breach privacy one tends to be more accepting of it. However, perhaps a better analysis is how each party tries to undermine privacy, specifically which rights, what protections on those violations are in place, etc. I know there is a divide in what the left and right values, I imagine there is a difference here as well. It may be less that people are accepting of things when it is their party that is doing it, and more people are more accepting of different ways that their privacy is invaded. What may make an interesting study is to take all the privacy policies and laws in the last 20-30 years that were introduced and/or passed sort them in categories and then present them to people in the following ways: * Take a subset of the policies and present them without any indication of which party passed. Record which people thought were alright and which were not. * Take a new and unique subset of the policies and present some swapping which party presented the law, for the rest keep the party affiliation the same. Record which people thought were alright and which were not. In this subset make sure to include some more extreme laws with swapped party affiliation. I am really curious what this study would find. Does this truly divide on party lines, or does it divide more on the how and safeguards of the law?

    • @ZcashMedia
      @ZcashMedia День назад

      Thank you for the thorough reply! It would be great to do an analysis like you suggest. It is true about the PATRIOT Act being done under republicans - although Democrats didn’t (couldn’t?) undo it when it was their turn. There is also the Clipper Chip/Crypto Wars in the ‘90s when Dems were in power iirc. Another point is that often what ordinary people prefer is not what their government does. I wouldn’t be surprised if republican identifying citizens weren’t onboard with many of the policies made by Republican governments, for example.

  • @kyleb2044

    Always wonder how that's not obvious. Any power given to the government will eventually fall to a party you don't like(and may not like you either).

    Making your data private will allow for a market for you to own your digital profile hence bow you can monetize off simply being connected. You have a choice who you want to display your profile to.

    Good video. However, one should ask more questions and dig deeper. The government having data is not the issue. It is what the government does with the data that concerns people, in general.

    • @ZcashMedia
      @ZcashMedia 5 дней назад

      That’s an interesting point. I think it’s important to limit the collection of data too, for example to what is allowed via a warrant.

    • @leehweht
      @leehweht 5 дней назад

      @ZcashMedia True, unfortunately, many times, the government no longer uses warrants. They just simply call up their friends at Google, MS, Comcast, AT&T, etc, and get a favor. These companies not only don't provide much protection of data, but sale it, market it, and give it to governments. It makes sense for them to do it as if they help the government, then they have a friend who might just call a competitor before a senate sub committee or get favorable legislation or contracts The system has become corrupt because the government has amassed too much power and control. Reading about the government getting secret codes from manufacturers to open safes, tracking all newer cars, accessing cloud storage for things like security cameras, etc is scary shit. All in the name of "homeland security".

    • @ZcashMedia
      @ZcashMedia 5 дней назад

      Well, payment processors are more like “confidential” because the information is limited to certain companies (still not great). Bitcoin is more transparent than that because the information is available to anyone with an internet connection who can read the Bitcoin blockchain. So Bitcoin is not private, nor confidential.

      @@ZcashMedia the only people who would benefit from never having a banking history or identity at all are scammers. Crytpo isnt gonna decentralize anything because the value and trust in the US dollar is backed by the military and every crypto is just a someone with alot of money boosting the value by transferring their own usd and then once others put their money into the coin the original investor leaves with his majority stake. Bitcoin wont because the creator died and his account will never sell meaning majority of bitcoin wont even be used for transactions.

      While Bitcoin may serve a purpose as a store of value as long as enough people believe the price will go up, it will likely never provide good financial privacy, which is a huge component of being a freedom-enhancing technology like crypto is supposed to be. Luckily Zcash is on the road to this.

      Using coinjoin like he does, or using non-systematic privacy is pointless. More or less same as pseudonimity of BTC. Look at spies work. A trade is like an information transmission: it has value ONLY if 1/ no one can tell the content of the exchange (ever) and 2/no one can tell who participated in the exchange and 3/ no one can tell that an exchange took place. If you miss any of those 3, sooner or later you'll be trapped. Vitalik is no lead on privacy. (good work on making video, it pump zcash token, but what matter in the end is if the boat can survive the iceberg).
