Surface Conditioning Belts Versus Abrasive Belts
It’s been a great grinder to learn on for me without investing multiple thousands as a total beginner. If I ever decide to upgrade to a 72, I’ll keep my Trident for wood and slack, or maybe set it up as a sharpener. Consider getting the larger workrest if you go this route 👍
Apparently I’m doing the wrong kind of HVAC ha.
You know the economy isn't doing well if HVAC guys can't afford trophy trucks anymore. haha
I was thinking the same thing. I’m in construction and can’t afford a decent prerunner
Great Video...get a Mixture of Helium and Argon for welding Alum...burns hotter. uses less AMPs for Power.
Awesome video gentleman. I enjoyed it all. I think this is something you should do with more shops. Appreciate the stories and insight aswell about running and owning a shop.
We would love to visit more shops! These types of conversations are a lot of fun for us.
What machine is this
this is an older version of our 2x72 Belt Grinder. Check out AmeriBrade.com
curious could this even be used to grind bevels in a knife?
theoretically, but there are some practical reasons that don't make it ideal. Most bevel angles on flat grinds are too shallow and would grind into the clamp itself. Hollow grinding could solve that problem with the correct size wheel since the wheel would curve away from hitting the clamp, but heavy grinding might shift the knife in the clamp. It holds strong enough for sharpening, but it isn't intended to hold that well.
Thank you for the tour of your shop and how my grinder was made. America!
Nearly complete with the setup of my new unit and this video helped to know proper setup of work rest and how to flip it for horizontal grinding. Thank you!
Your company needs to develop a simple app for this!
Its a good idea. We need to meet a good app developer who could help us out. Seems like it would be easy for someone who does it.
Would be nice if the weels where sold as well. Like a kit. Now i first need to find those.
check out tru grit. Here is a link where you can grab some: trugrit.com/product-category/machines-parts/contact-wheels-machines-parts/
I just purchased mine, I can't wait to start working.
Question is, we all have seen Baldor on recent machines as well so is that an option or are those alternativly being used as a normal practice? There must be a price difference between the WEG and the Baldor. I have seen a 2x72 Baldor operate and the operation is completely amazing in smoothness, quietness etc.
Hey @garth2011, We use WEG and Baldor, WEG is a great brand. However at the current time we are using stirckly Baldor. If you want to make sure you get a certain brand motor, give us a call and we can make sure it goes out with what you want
Interesting information however, there doesn't seem to be much information about the motors that are used such as the brand and why including any options and choices in motor brand, cost etc.
Hey Garth, we use the best motors we can find and we keep 2 suppliers so we dont repeat the troubles of the 2020 shortages. As of this reply Baldor motors are leaving with every order and we are keeping weg on backup incase baldor has a slip in production.
Just watched Keith Rucker’s assemble video of one of your grinders …
I hoped you liked his video. i enjoyed it. if you need asnything email us at Info@ameribrade.com, were happy to help get you anything you need.
Awesome video! Thank you 🙏
Thanks
Wow, what a beast! I think I need one for my shop.
is there a way to run the classic frame on reverse for sharpening if you have a vfd motor ?
The motor is capable of being set up to run in reverse by adding a simple switch to the speed controller, but the tracking isn't responsive. If you're only using it for sharpening, precision tracking may not be crucial, so you might get away with it. Give the drive wheel several spins in reverse by hand to see if the belt tracks good enough for your standards. If you're happy with it, we can get you a reverse switch.
Would an 8” contact wheel work for flat grinding?
Yea, it would accomodate an 8" wheel as well. The 4" wheel that comes with the machine is an extra 1/2" wider than standard for grinding wider pieces though, so a standard 2" wide 8" diameter wheel would limit you to 2 inch wide pieces.
@@AmeriBradeOfficial thank you. After I sent the message I realized the wheel is incorporated into the unit.
Just got mine today. Super high quality piece. Looking forward to using it.
Finally math I can understand. Nice job.. I need that to go with my Ameribrade. Hmmm
Ameriblade seems like such a bandass company. I recently got into grinding. Using a modified 4x36, lol. I hate it. I can't wait to buy one of these beasts of a machine. Got eyes on the trident Keep up the solid American work, fellas!
Thank you! Would love to get a machine in your hands one day, but keep making it happen with what you got!
Very interesting video I stumbled onto, makes me want to buy a grinder!
Thanks Adam!
Deflector rubber coated wheel with the 36 grit grinding on it continuously is going to last about 1 month.
you would think so, but with proper alignment, they actually last a really long time under heavy use. We have customers that use them all day every day for at least a year before needing to be replaced. Just like tires on asphalt. They just roll along with the grit. Now if the machine isn't straight and the belt is scrubbing along the wheel, they would get eaten up quick.
Freehand grind 🤣🤣this is nonsense
What an awesome set up guys. 👌
Your company does great work. Now I can see why. I love my machine!
Very cool. The shop tour shows many key factors in why everything Ameribrade is so awesome. (Love my 2x72!) Thanks for the great work, guys.
That was totally fascinating! It was great to see where my Ameribrade grinder was made and I now have much more of an appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into it. Wow!!! Like I wrote once before, my Ameribrade opened up a whole new world of knife making abilities I didn't have before with my old home-made grinder. Thanks for the video.
Does SCE supply your residential area with 3 phase power or does your shop run on 220v phase converters?
We run phase converters at the house to get 3 phase.
Great video! But you left out featuring one part, the box! My wife has discovered how good your shipping boxes are, so it is no longer " not another AmeriBrade tool," but it's an Ameribrade box for me. She's slaps her name on any box she can't lift .It greatly softens the spousal financial inquiries, and I live to buy more Ameribrade accessories. Life is good.😂
That's a new selling point we haven't thought of right there
Wow. What a cool sneak peak. That is awesome of y’all to share the details of your company. Makes me appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering. I have the 2x72 and the HyperDisc. All Ameribrade baby…..!
Glad you liked it! What are you mostly using the hyperdisc for? How's it working out for ya?
@@AmeriBradeOfficial using it to shape handles. I’ve been using the wire drawing wheels the big ones I also use the pop wheels I love using the disk with the work rest it’s such a luxury to be able to control the speed and I’m going to be using the airway wheels a lot I expect. It’s a very integral machine for me since I purchased it.
Super stoked for my Mastery Package to show up! Can't wait thanks guys!
Awwww yeah!!! Can't wait for you to get it!
Love how open yall are! Keep pushing and growing!!!
That's the idea!
Enjoyed the video. It was nice to see where my grinder came from. 👍
You bet! How's it holding up?
@@AmeriBradeOfficial Loving it.
❤
Next on my list
Lmao
Have you tried using this to do main grinds in knife making? looks like you could clamp the handle part and do main grinds pretty easy.
Theoretically you could, but there are a couple things that make it not ideal. Main bevels should usually be at smaller angles than the clamp can do without hitting the belt. But, if you're hollow grinding, that helps because the wheel curves away from hitting the clamp. The second thing is just how securely the clamp holds the blade. It's plenty secure for the light work of sharpening, but may end up moving a bit if you're doing heavy grinding. But, if you're careful, its possible to keep it in position.
Hey guys at ameribrade, about 5 years ago I purchased a black fox grinder and it has never lived up to my expectations, not to mention the terrible experiance I went through after the purchase!! So I just wanted you to know that I am in the market for a new grinder and so far you guys are the front runners by far!! I will be making my decision by the end of feb. and will be calling soon to discuss some details!! God Bless and have a great day
Or you could just use those trig functions on your phone to determine the correct angle instead, it would be a lot fewer steps.
Question for the builders of this grinder, if the unit is mounted on a workbench can it be tilted back to give access to the 4 inch rubber wheel at the bottom?
It does tilt backwards. Also, you can mount it to where the 4" wheel hangs over the front of the bench. Got your email and sent a picture and video to show how much it can tilt backwards.
I thought this video was gonna be about putting notches in a leather belt...
What size and thickness was the Tubing
I believe this was 1.5" x .120" wall
Very nice
hah! sure looks a lot faster doing it that way than with a grinding wheel in the field! i've installed a lot of handrail over the years, a belt sander/grinder setup like that would save literally hours of time and tons of ruined material.
we need to make a version for you guys out in the field
Bad to the bone!
🤔 Notches and pipe profiles series are good to expand the importance of BeltGrinders... I love to watch Ameribrade videos
